The showdown pretty cool, too!
The cast really kills it in these movies. Chris Pine as Kirk is one of my fav leading man turns in recent times. Incredible charisma.

The dialogue in the showdown at the end was great, that's what is making me appreciate it more and more.

True. I really liked Krall and his motivations, and Idris Elba's performance.

He is another thing about the movie that I am appreciating more and more upon re-watch. He is an under rated villain. I didn't think much of him on my first watching like many. But now after 3 watched I really like him.

I already liked him, but when he delivered his lines in the finale pulling his shirt I was definitely sold. That tiny moment really stood out as powerful to me.

Yeah Elba was great, and Krall's motivations were quite well thought out. I actually wish there would have been more scenes with him in the movie.

The cast is great, too bad we might not get any more movies with them.

Despite all the nay-sayers, it appears a fourth movie is in the works and this time they will be giving it time to be properly written.

No release date yet and nothing clearly official but Paramount is not giving up on the series yet.

One of the few bright spots in a rough summer for Paramount Pictures was “Star Trek Beyond,” a quite well liked entry in the rebooted film series even if it was the most expensive to make and yet the lowest grossing of the three Abrams-era films.

‘Beyond’ was notoriously rushed into production despite not really being ready for it, but even before it was out Paramount has already made it quite clear that a fourth one is in the works and this time there’s a lot more time to get things just right.

Today, series star and the third film’s co-writer Simon Pegg has seemingly teased that work has already begun on the fourth film’s script with his ‘Beyond’ co-writer Doug Jung. Pegg posted a photo of himself and Jung at work on a project of some kind at J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production offices.

Short of Abrams getting them involved in an unrelated project, they’re likely there for the next ‘Trek’ which it has been teased to feature Chris Hemsworth returning to play the father of James Kirk which he briefly played in the opening of the 2009 film – the former Aussie soap actor and “Thor” star’s first feature film role. The circumstances of George Kirk’s return aren’t clear so it’ll be interesting to see what they do.

On the flipside, both J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have previously been linked as the next Trek’s writers so this may not be so cut and dry. No release date has yet been set for the next ‘Trek’.
Dark Horizons

I liked this film but I watched in on a plane and it was hard to make out some of the audio. Was it ever explained how Krall
became an alien hybrid thing
?

It was because Krall was using the tech he discovered to drain their life-force, so it gave him parts of their DNA as well.

Seems more like speculation than anything.

I mean did the third movie not have enough time? That seems to be fiction. Didn't they spend a lot of time so Pegg and Jung could rewrite the script?

Star Trek Beyond's failure wasn't that it was rushed into production. It came out 3 years after Star Trek Into Darkness. I think it's failure was a general loss of momentum for the franchise after Into Darkness and also failing to capitalize on it being the 50th anniversary of the series. Also, the marketing campaign was let's face it not very good.

I feel like the hype train started very late for the movie. The trailers also gave away the Enterprise's destruction. TV spots even spoiled the main villain's backstory.

Good news, hope we still get a fourth movie as the first 3 have been great.

Yeah the marketing was awful and gave away far too much. Especially the destruction of the Enterprise. It's the best sequence in the movie yet we saw far too much of it beforehand.

Star Trek Beyond is in a weird position: it did not do well enough to guarantee a sequel, but it's not horrible enough to make it an impossibility. It could really go either way.

They need to take Star Trek and make it into something big. They should have jumped on it immediately after ST09 when the franchise became relevant again. They waited 4 years for a sequel and then 3 years for another one. They need to map out something bigger and epic, get a better director and learn to market it correctly.

Anything can happen at this point. The problem is the franchise never got a momentum going, but rather slowly released a few films over the course of 7 years and never had a true fan base growing from the general audience. They need to get their **** together.

How many more films are the cast contracted for?

Ive' been a Trek fan since the 60's....I love the new movies....I want another one....they need to get it out and not wait forever like they did with the previous sequels.

Agreed. They shouldn't wait more than 2 years between films.

Hey I hope it happens but I wont be surprised if it doesn't

Remember Green Lantern, Fan4stic, and more were going to get sequels too

Except Star Trek Beyond didn't do nearly as bad in the box office and was well received by critics and audiences.

My point is that they always say a movie is getting a sequel. It's very rare for them to say "Nah we're not gonna do a sequel" this close to the release.

Of course, I Hope I'm wrong

Fant4stic got a sequel announced before the movie came out and bombed. It was a PR move, but Fox still proclaimed they were doing a sequel.

Fantastic Four was/is also a licensed property that they are contractually obligated to use or lose. After the bomb this last one was I am hoping they choose to lose it and let Marvel or anyone else actually try to make a good movie out of it.

Marvel seems disinterested in making a movie from it however.

FF is a hard nut to crack. It requires a lot of suspension of belief. The idea that a smart guy would build a rocket to space and then invite his best friend, girlfriend and kid brother along might be a bit too much for people to believe in...which is why in the first batch of movies they all became astronauts and scientists. On top of that add in a guy who rules his own country encased in a suit of armor and calls himself Doctor Doom. Even Marvel on it's current hot streak wouldn't approach this level of wackiness.

Fine take FF out of it. The point of what I was saying was: its rare that people claim "no were not making a sequel even if the movie bombs"
Simon Pegg and whoever working on the script doesn't really mean much
