Star Trek Sequel - Part 1

Q - Too powerful and who wants to see anyone else than John DeLancie play him anyway?

I love Q, LOVE him. John De Lancie has giant shoes to fill for anyone wanting to take on that role.

But, now stay with me here, I think that Ryan Reynolds could be a potential follow up to Lancie's Q. Just a thought I had. :oldrazz:

Dear God, please no Khan. Especially if Cumberpatch is playing him. No offense to the actor, I think he is great.

But as Khan is supposed to be a Sikh warrior, that would be a bit of a stretch for Benedict, no matter how good an actor he is.

However, I will be interested to see how Klingons are depicted. Smooth or bumpy? :)

Anyone heard of the rumour about [BLACKOUT]Leonard Nimoy doing a bit as Spock[/BLACKOUT] in this new sequel?

Cumberpatch as Khan will be interesting. Also I wonder what J.J. Abrams version of the Klingons will look like?

If BC is playing Khan, then this film just lost a viewing at the cinema...

Ugh.

Dunno if I'll just skip the movie outright or not --- I'll wait for some trailers to find out whether it's worth my hard-earned dollar for a visit to the ol' theater --- but if the Khan rumor turns out to be true after all (it still hasn't, as far as I'm concerned....this is still coming from very questionable "sources"), then I just lost a whole lot of respect (and interest) in the "New 'N' Improved Trek Universe." (You can scratch the "New" off that....jury's still out on "Improved")

So...Khan is supposed to be the peak of human physical and mental perfection. But the actor they chose is anything BUT that in the physical department

Khan is indeed a bit of a safe choice, and Cumberbatch may not be the best fit for him, but I think we all knew this was likely, and Klingons are a welcome addition. Khan is one of Kirk's greatest villains, and there's a chance to build something interesting out of this. Let's see how they evolve the character and handle him before we whine about it too much. It's bound to be better than Generic Revenge Romulan at least.

Let's be honest, Star Trek was never about villains and there was never a recurring villain or nemesis for Kirk and crew.
All that happened with Khan is that Harve Bennett had a good idea for the re-use of Khan after having watched numerous episodes of Star Trek including "Space Seed". His original treatment was then improved upon by Jack B. Sowards and Nick Meyer into what we finally saw.

Many people are comparing Khan in the ST Universe with The Joker in Batman`s. This seems about as relevant as comparing apples and oranges. Khan, 1 showing. Joker, too many to remember.

A lot of the time, what was originally thought of as a "bad guy" by Kirk, had him changing his mind about them at the end. For examples "The Corbomite Manoeuvre" and "Arena" come to mind.

Star Trek has never been primarily about the "bad guy" and "big explosions" but I guess when you only have a 2 hour movie every few years rather than 26 forty-four minute episodes a year. Something has to give and it would seem decent story telling and character development has to go in this case.

But know they are even throwing ethnicity out with the bathwater. Just how is it going to be explained that Khan Noonien Singh originally from the Northern region of India and a Sikh warrior, winds up looking like a pale faced Londoner?

All of this, if it is true about Cumberpatch playing Khan, is a shame for me as I grew up on Star Trek and have been a fan for as far back as I can remember.
What was it that JJ Abrams said early on? "This isn't your Fathers Star Trek." Well, I certainly can agree with him 100% there.

I wonder what the title of the sequel will be?
My vote is for "Star Trek: You Khan't Do This!"

I'll just hang out for Prometheus in a few weeks. Now that will be some decent Science Fiction story telling.

lol at the people pretending that Cumberbatch playing/not playing Khan is a deal-breaker for them.

Writing off an entire film without seeing one ounce of footage because one thing didn't go the way you wanted it to is beyond stupid.

kind of silly to complain that Khan isn't the same guy you remember in a rebooted series

Star Trek 2: The Khan-tebury Tales
You Khan't Take It With You
Khatch Me If You Khan
Star Trek 2: Tin Khan Alley
Star Trek 2: Khan't Buy Me Love

Precisely. They're seeing this movie regardless, and they need to deal with it.

Agreed. And Cumberbatch is awesome so I'm sure he can pull off Khan. J.J. Abrams knows how to cast his films, you can argue about the actual film until the cows come home but dude knows how to cast films.

They already brought their tickets.

That's a fairly condescending, blanket opinion to wrap people up in.

Actually, I can guarantee you I won't see this at the cinema if word of mouth from my friends who do go to watch it proves to be sufficiently negative. Same as with the TNG Nemesis movie, bad word of mouth from people I knew and whose judgement I respect, meant I didn't bother with it at the cinema. Bought it in the DVD bargain bucket years later for £3.

The result after watching it? Wasted two hours of my life and felt robbed of my £3!

Edit:
I think that BC is a great actor, but that is not my point. The point I mean is the one which I have already made a few posts ago.
If he is playing any other character then I will be over the moon...

:up::up:
It would be interesting to see the Klingons find Khan first...

There's very little to go off of right now, but as a general direction, this news dampens my excitement.

I will see it regardless? Not necessarily in theaters.

It's just a rather meh choice of villain.
A whole galaxy to play around with, explore and get into shenanigans...and its centered around Kahn, again. It could be awesome, but for my money its a lack of imagination.

Star Trek doesn't need a villain.

Hate to prove you wrong, but *I* sure as hell won't see it, if it's same ole same ole Khan. I've got nothing against Cummerbund at all, and I wish him the best; but I'm not interested in TWOK REDUX. They promised an all-new Trek universe --- well, prove it then. Come up with an original character, an original alien race, an original story.

^I don't throw sequels to good movies away without you know seeing previews and stuff. Then again I'm not a ****ing hardcore Star Trek nerd. You are entitled to hate the film sight unseen and think that the filmmakers are tired and lazy for using a villain that hasn't be used in decades though.

Me? I'm going to wait and see what happens.

These are rumors, after all. I love how all of the Khan-complainers have forgotten Montalban was born in Mexico, not India...

If it is Khan, what if the Botany Bay was found by the Klingon Empire. Later Khan Noonien Singh and his followers try to take over the Klingon Empire, and the Enterprise crew has to help the Klingons defeat them.

when i heard benicio del toro was offered the role of the villain i knew it had to be khan.but i thought they would change since he bailed.i can only see him or javier bardem playing that role.cumberbatch is a great actor but is all wrong for khan i see him as a Q or someone more brainy.
