X2 > XFC > X1 for me, but all I'm saying is, if he gets the time he needs, the man has the ability to do the tone and the action (those swordfights in Stardust, my God). And it's not like he hasn't gotten good performances out of most of his actors. With the right script he'll be more than fine.

Considering the time frame, Vaughn did a great job on X-Men First Class. My only problem with it (and it's due to the rushed schedule) is the uneven pacing and shoddy CG. But I agree that X2 is a bit more polish (obvious reasons) and well-round and it's a shame that we won't get to see Vaughn's definite take on the X franchise with the next film.

That being said, I thought Stardust was just lacking in general. To me, it's a movie that I enjoyed but it could've been...better. It just didn't hit all the right notes with me, and some of the humor wasn't as witty as it should've been. Personally I think his best films are Layer Cake and Kick-Ass. So yeah, he wouldn't be my first choice but I would like to see Vaughn take on Star Wars for sure...

But when it comes to this type of news, I'm just going insane. I hope we'll get some sort of tip. If not from Lucasfilm but at least from the reliable Deadline, Hollywood Reporter, Latino Review or Variety.

I've got a gut feeling it might be David Fincher; a too good to be true choice that becomes reality. Just a feeling. That can only work IF Disney releases Episode 7 in Winter 2015; that way he has plenty of preproduction and production time to work on it. And of course, if he's willing to compromise his 'aggressive' approach and attitude towards the studio.

So here it is: My personal favorites (but lack of rumors to back up) would be Alfonso Cauron or Sam Mendes. The possible choice are David Fincher or Jon Favs, with Jon Favs being like the last resort. The wild card would be Matthew Vaughn if his current status is just a cover-up.

And my Dream choice (but can't do it due to scheduling) would be Brad Bird or G. Del Toro.

Well, Stardust is definitely his weakest movie. But the fights were:wow:

I've been itching to check out Stardust for years.

I don't want to raise your expectations but you really should see this movie. Some fresh air in Hollywood (although from 6 years ago). :)
For me Matthew Vaughn is the best choice for directing Episode 7 who is not busy with something.
Here's my dream team:

Episode VII - Matthew Vaughn
Episode VIII - Brad Bird (available at this time after his movie 1952)
Episode IX - J. J. Abrams (available at this time after Star Trek 3)
First SW stand alone movie (Boba Fett) - Joe Johnston
Second SW stand alone movie - Zack Snyder
Third SW stand alone movie - Guillermo del Toro

I wouldn't want to see a Boba Fett movie only because I don't want to see an Adult Boba without his helmet. Unless they can Dredd it.

That being said, sometimes what fanboys want, we shouldn't get and just leave it to our imaginations. It would be like showing us the Off-World colonies and rebellions in Blade Runner. It's fine the way it is.

And that was the appeal of Boba early on: his mystique.

Ron Howard started out as a Spielberg, and while he's still in early Spielberg mode he's slowly turning into "drama only" Spielberg.

And bad drama Spielberg at that.

Although he made some bad decisions during his career I could never have much hate toward the director of films like Willow, Apollo 13, Beautiful Mind and Frost/Nixon. Also I'm a big F1 fan and I'm looking forward to Rush.

I like Ron overall but I liked him better earlier in his career because lately he's been very spotty. And while I liked Frost/Nixon and I will always love him for Arrested Development , his Dan Brown (Di Vinci Code) movies sucks and Dilema was an embarrassment..

Yeah, The Da Vinci movies are horrible. I don't know what happened there. Haven't seen The Dilemma but looks like a bad one too. I think he'll redeеm himself with Rush. And I think that Stephen King's Dark Tower series was perfect for him. Too bad it's put on hold.

Please not Ron Howard. Not that he's a bad director, it's just none of his films I've seen have impressed me. Though I've still yet to see A Beautiful Mind.

It's like he did The Dilemma to say "Look guys, I'm not Steven Spielberg!" and failed miserably at it. :funny:

I say, go with fresh blood.

It's a new trilogy, so it should have someone new and talented bringing a fresh vision to the table. People won't know who it is, so they won't have any given expectations they would have for someone well-known. This movie should be judged and accepted on it's own terms, not solely by the director's track record.

Lest we forget, George Lucas wasn't even that well-known before Star Wars, and people had no idea what to expect, and look what happened. Even though the sequels were directed by different people, the audience still loved them (well, maybe not the Ewoks).

At this point, people only care that it's a Star Wars film and that it's good. The name practically sells itself, for crying out loud.

Kenneth Branagh

It would be full of dutch angles, but he can bring the operatic scale the series needs.

I wouldn't mind Verbinski having a crack at it. People fuss about Dead Man's Chest and At World's End but those films problems lie largely in the scripts and we already have firm scripts with this trilogy. A good script, Verbinski and Star Wars seem like a winning formula.

Ron Howard is in talks with Disney to direct Neil Gaiman's Graveyard Book adaption so he is out, and thankfully so.

Please not Ron Howard. The guy is decent, but no where near the quality we need for a Star Wars director.

4 out of the 6 Star Wars movies were directed by George Lucas, one by the guy who later did Robocop 2. I think you guys maybe overestimating the caliber of director needed here. Sure, I along with the rest of you want to get the very best director possible but lets step back a bit here.

That being said, I'm against Ron Howard for this lol.

I don't hate Howard like alot of you seem to, but I just don't think he's got the right sensibilities for this.

Pretty much how I feel. I don't know where all this hate is coming from but if you look at his resume, I just don't see him doing something like Star Wars. Unless he really just wants to go all out and do something new. I mean the closest thing to Star Wars he's done is Willow.

I have to say I'm actually kind of shocked at the hate he's getting here.
