The Force Awakens Star Wars VII Director? - Part 1

What I find strange is that the Little Missue Sunshine guy is only writing the first.

To me, it'd make much more sense if he wrote all three, and Kazdan wrote some of the spin off movies.

We actually don't know that yet. There's a recent rumor that Kazdan was brought on to write a spin-off movie.

Exactly. Let's get the taste of the prequels out of our mouths. Spice things up, do something different. Not just bring in a fanboy director who is going to be a pushover to the producers.

The thing is it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if that's what we get. Akin to WB hiring the likes of Chris Columbus over Terry Gilliam when the Harry Potter franchise began for all the rumours of autuer directors it could be the case that Disney, considering what's at stake financially, may want the kind of director who they can control. Fincher has a history, from ALIEN 3 to FIGHT CLUB to even BENJAMIN BUTTON, of creative disagreements with studio management.

Yeah, I know. That was my point; him writing the spin offs make sense.

Yeah he is probably writing the spinoffs. I can't see how it's possible to have three different writers working on each episode at the same time. It lack cohesiveness and it would be a pain when little changes with one script may affect the rest. That, then you have the directors and casting that affect the writing and tone on Episode 7 which would have to be fitted into the other episodes.

If Fincher took one of these on, I'd love it if it were the second act, à la Kershner.

Favreau is a good choice for the first one - although I'd much rather have Andrew Stanton, if not then Joseph Kosinski.
For the final one, I want Peter Jackson. Hands down.

Oh ya. And I'm not saying that's right, but I guess I see it as childish as people going overboard with the love, holding it against Nolan's skills as a director. And as you said that is the thing I find most funny. For years and years and years, people have stated how his films especially Batman are not that realistic, and people need to stop thinking they are, that they are still fantasy. Then when some suggest him for Star Wars right away the same people say "Wait his films are too realistic!" lol. I think he could easily do fantasy, and easily do the genre. I mean the man is not stupid, and if we can realize he would have to change a lot of his style, so would he I'm sure. I mean the man is a huge fan of Star Wars so I think he would get that.

But seeing Fincher on there does excite me, and I would be thrilled if he got the job. And I'm sure he would only do VII, they probably will do an OT and have a different director for each one.

As for Han, hell yes. Put him back in his awesome ESB garb and he still would look like a total bad ass. That and I hope he still says "Sweetheart" in his typical manner ;)

Well you know how it can be with fanboy communities, there's very little middle ground, but with the Nolan Batman movies I've seen even more casual posters get tired of the way he/they seem to seep into every movie topic on the hype lol. I think if Nolan was chosen it would certainly be an interesting challenge for him and one that I think he'd be willing to adapt to and embrace.

Yeah I couldn't see Fincher committing to a trilogy but I guess it depends on how much the story that is laid out grabs him. I'm not sold on him or Nolan in truth but I'd prefer them to some of the other safe choices.

There's no reason the swagger and one liners can't remain in tact! :D

I wonder if once the director is signed. They will sign Thor & Loki ? Since both want to be in the movie & there is Disney's added viewing audience right there with those two

Hemsworth has said he wants to be in it? I read that Hiddleston had said he wanted to be.

You want 14 endings?! :oldrazz:

In all seriousness, I'd be cool with Jackson. Big no to Kosinski, though. Tron's problems weren't just in the script, imo. I'd rather have Vaughn for the first one than either of them (or Favreau), tbh.

If Fincher were chosen, I'd be excited out of intrigue alone, lol, because I would literally have no idea what to expect from a Fincher Star Wars. He just seems like a very odd fit for the franchise to me, but that's not automatically a bad thing.

Hey I liked the 14 endings - it was a nice pay-off after 9 1/2-hours (or 12 for extended) of journey. I'd like that after 9 star wars films.

::envisions donald glover saying "this deal keeps getting worse all the time" in his billy dee voice:: well, my night is has been made.

Whatever happened to the kid who played Wallace? Where's Wallace? WHERE THE **** IS WALLACE?!?!

You never gave him to an ordinary citizen!

I have a theory that Disney/Lucasfilm already has a director set but they had to wait to make sure the purchase went through and it did. The purchase by Disney was cleared by the Feds and now it's completely official, hence why I think we will be more news for Star Wars from this point on (director, release date, etc). They were just waiting.

I agree. One of the heads of Disney even said as much when he was asked--he said we'd hear from Kennedy since they don't "own the company yet."

Disney owning or not owning LF would, I think, affect the kind of contract LF can give the director.

I'd have to agree with you. It wouldn't surprise me at all if a lot of these decision have already been made, just waiting to make things official.

Despite the denials made, I'm still thinking Matthew Vaughn is very high in the running.

The only detractor is Kennedy saying the director would be someone she worked with before, and I don't believe they have actually done a project together yet. But some comments made are pretty strong in his favor.
