When the rumors first arrived I was a bit skeptic. Not because I don't like Abrams, cause I really do, but because I thought it would feel wierd that he would handle both Star Trek and Star Wars. But here we are, and I can't deny this news got me a bit excited, and well a bit relieved. Abrams is a talented director, and a great fit for space sci-fi as he has shown with ST.

I was expecting more of a shock with their choice of director but I'm ok with this.

Crazy if true. I think he'll be much better suited for Star Wars than Star Trek, so he's an okay pick.

Getting to direct both Star Trek AND Star Wars. Now that's some fanboy wish fulfillment right there.

deadline said it's a done deal: JJ is your new Star Wars director!

Deadline is reporting it? DEADLINE IS REPORTING IT?!?!

Odd that he's doing this when he's got a deal with Paramount, though...

J.J., please don't let Damon Lindelof come on board to help.

Why I never put his hat in the ring was because I figured with Trek there was no way he would do it. But if so, and this is true, color me tickled pink. JJ is an amazing director, as long as he keeps away from lens flare in this one Star Trek has already shown he can do great sci-fi adventure.

So great news.

One thing ST09 did better than anything was have such great relationships with the characters, so much so you could tell it was real off screen. So that is one thing he will do great, Super 8 also had amazing characters (the plot at the end kinda stunk) so he is awesome with that.

Yes, Deadline is confirming the news:

Star Trek director J.J. Abrams will be helming the next Star Wars movie. “It’s done deal with J.J.,” a source with knowledge of the situation told Deadline today. Argo director Ben Affleck was also up for the gig, the source says. Michael Arndt is writing the script for the first installment of the relaunch of George Lucas’ franchise by Disney.

He was my #1 choice, but I didn't expect it to happen, but I'm glad it did. Good stuff...

This also means that we're getting michael giacchino on board too. SOLID!

This is great news though I really am happy with it, I just never thought he would do it. I would put him above Vaughn for this project for sure.

He won't, Michael is already the one doing the screen play and that's been confirmed for quite a while.
The director always does rewrites, and since JJ tends to work with his specific team...

I would really love for them to follow Michael's plan. Focus on giving us one solid, entertaining new SW film that knocks our socks off. No damn questions and mysteries.
