Supergirl Supergirl General Discussion Thread - - - Part 12

Yeah exactly, the cast is too large. If I were brought in as show runner I’d be trimming the cast down. Maybe some of them will get will get taken out in Crisis.
I think it's a problem with most of these shows now. Flash has the same thing, just way too many supporting characters.

Don’t bank on it. The only shows that’re going to actually lose people are Arrow (Ollie & Lyla) and maybe Legends (Ray and Nora definitely, though I’m expecting a third too).

I can’t see any of the other shows losing characters. Unless it’s the titular characters, which they won’t do cause they need them for the shows, the other supporting characters would be wasted with a death because of Ollie’s sacrifice.

It’s definitely a problem, I hope Batwoman manages to leave it as is. I don’t want her going to the Batcave & Luke is there, her Dad’s there, her step sister is there, etc. Just leave that one an is, Luke at the Batcave with her step sister as a doc she goes to when she needs stitching up or whatever.

I can’t either and I think think if any of the supporting characters bite the dust it’ll be undone somehow.

I don’t think Ollie will die btw I think he’ll become the new Monitor that will exist in a different level of reality.

I don’t think he’ll die either, but I don’t think he’s going to replace the monitor. I just think he’ll reach some higher, maybe more cosmic purpose. The (current) Monitor takes Felicity to him at the end of last years Arrow, which wouldn’t be possible if he (the Monitor) dies.

Ollie’s fate will likely be something else, and I’m willing to bet we’ll see him in the Arrowverse again at some point, though maybe not for a few years.

I think he takes her earlier than when he dies, the Monitor dies in the comic arc so I'm fully expecting him to die.#

I'm sticking with my theory :cwink:

If he joined the Justice League and hung out at their headquarters, he could be a hall monitor.

Someday, I would love for the story of Alex's father to be resolved. However, I just saw that Dean Cain was trying to spread info about the Ukranian call whistleblower, so **** him. Recast and never have him show up in this show again.

I mean, he was already part cyborg. Just make him full cyborg like they did with Metallo on Earth-X or put him in a new body and be done with it.

In Lois and Clark, the original Jimmy was Michael Landes. But they got rid of him for Justin Whalin because apparently Landes looked too similar to Dean Cain. So why not get him?

But if they did want someone else similar who is not an ex Superman actor, then how about Eddie Cibrian? He has a similar vibe and if he's part cyborg he can be in makeup.

Landes looked nothing like Dean Cain though, lol. I honestly don't think they'd need to get someone who looks like Cain. Just give him a new body and make that clear in the story. Like it could be a twist that some villain or mystery cyborg character turns out to be "new and improved" Jeremiah. It could be an interesting spin on the whole "new Cyborg Superman is Kara's dad" thing from the comics, and just make it Jeremiah instead of Zor-El.

It's obvious that Dean Cain has lost it. It's really sad.

Dean Cain always seemed like a great guy but seriously he’s lost the plot. We’ll never see him on Supergirl ever again. As the bad guy in the Running Man said “only in a rerun”

I look forward to what the 2nd half of Supergirl's 5th season is going to be like post-Crisis.

We know Winn Schott will make his return and he may not be the Winn we know due to the Crisis changes. There is also the milestone 100th episode.

Just get the actor back who played Kara's father. I remember writing before when we last saw JJ as 'Cyborg Superman,' about having Kara's father come back, kill him off and just take the moniker and run with with Cyborg Superman arc from the comic. It was a great story.

That doesn't resolve the Jeremiah issue, though, which is the actual awkward dangling plot-thread of the show. Unless you're suggesting they put Jeremiah into a new cyborg body with Zor-El's face? Which just seems unnecessarily convoluted, imo.

Reading that if ratings continue this could be the last seasons of Supergirl & Batwoman

Someone with “TV biz” knowledge can weigh in and correct/clarify. But it seems to me that there are mitigating factors regarding Supergirl and Batwoman which don’t necessarily spell imminent cancellation.

- all live+same day ratings are down
- as a second-tier network, the CW uses a different yardstick to measure success/failure.
- it was only this year that the CW returned to Sunday night programming. So maybe SG and BW are cut some slack for braving this new slot (heavily dominated by sports).
- the “W” of CW owns the DC content - and can monetize with ancillary licensing deals.
- just the other day, ABC announced it would join Fox in abandoning live+same day ratings and move to +3, +7 and +35 model. IOW: new viewing habits require new metrics.

Flash's ratings actually went up in the article I read where as Arrow's stayed the same.

Batwoman ratings
10/6: 1.8 million / .5 - also the lowest-rated premiere for any of the DC shows
10/13: 1.46 million / .3
10/20: 1.23 million / .3
10/27: 1.26 million / .3
11/3: 1.16 million / .3

Supergirl ratings:
10/6: 1.3 million / .4
10/13: 970k / .3
10/20: 900K / .2
10/27: 980k / .3
11/3: 810k / .2 - new series low

Definitely doesn't look good whatever the case and I watch Supergirl so its not like I wish to see it fail just constantly falling viewing figures really can't help renewal chances whatever the attributing factors are.

Please see the ratings thread. The new timeslot is killing the same day ratings you're quoiting but the show is showing great gains in the live+7. People are watching just not live. The show's in no danger and at this point should continue until Melissa's contract is up, with the success she's had on her side projects nobody expects her to resign.

Live+7 Ratings for Week of Oct. 28: ‘This Is Us,’ ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Double

Really, if Melissa doesn't resign, 6/7 years is still a success. It's just that these ratings and the perception that the Superman and Lois show is replacing it isn't helping matters.

They're both still in the top half of the network's rankings, a network that doesn't like to cancel things in the first place (they cancelled NOTHING last season). These shows are not in danger. The only DC show on the network that MIGHT be in danger is Black Lightning, which is only in the bottom 4 of the network in the demo but in the bottom 2 in terms of viewership, but even that one I'll be surprised if it doesn't get another season or two. The other thing is the CW cares about live ratings less than other networks due to its unusual business model, and SG still does very well in non-live ratings, so again, not in danger. I suspect the show will end when Melissa's contract is up because she's the only Arrowverse lead who keeps especially busy in the off-season, so there's obviously other stuff she wants to do. But it won't be due to ratings.

BTW, Arrow's ratings have also been dropping week-to-week, and Flash also hit a series low last episode. It's normal for ratings to fall after premieres. SG's have stabilized, as the 11/10 episode went up from the 11/3 one. They're all in decline overall. It's just the way network ratings are going.

The only show that has made gains this season is All American, all others have dropped. Supergirl nor Batwoman are going anywhere.

So there are some set photos/videos floating around of the episode they're currently filming (which is apparently the 100th), and they SEEM extremely spoilery. Like, game-changing. However, I think it's all a misdirect:

They show Kara revealing herself as Supergirl to the press. But the episode is reportedly titled "It's a Super Life," based on "It's a Wonderful Life," and therefore it'll all likely be undone at the end. Given her current drama, I'm guessing they're exploring a "what if I had no secret identity?" scenario.
