Someone with “TV biz” knowledge can weigh in and correct/clarify. But it seems to me that there are mitigating factors regarding
Supergirl and
Batwoman which don’t necessarily spell imminent cancellation.
- all live+same day ratings are down
- as a second-tier network, the CW uses a different yardstick to measure success/failure.
- it was only this year that the CW returned to Sunday night programming. So maybe
SG and
BW are cut some slack for braving this new slot (heavily dominated by sports).
- the “W” of CW owns the DC content - and can monetize with ancillary licensing deals.
- just the other day, ABC announced it would join Fox in
abandoning live+same day ratings and move to +3, +7 and +35 model. IOW: new viewing habits require new metrics.
