What was Bane doing in that courtroom scene? He looked like he was crafting/making something. It was a bit out of focus and I really didn't get a good look at it.
If he was knitting that would have been right out of a Tale of Two Cities.

He was stretching out a wire to choke the guy if he chose "Death."

I just joined this site and I have some questions about the film. These are spoilers but it says so in the title anyway so I don't think I'm supposed to hide anything.

1. Why didn’t Bane just detonate the bomb? why did talia plan to die with the city instead of escaping?

2. Why did they want to destroy gotham to begin with since crime in gotham had diminished dramastically? was it solely for revenge?

3. Why did they use criminals if the league of shadows was all about fighting crime?

4. How did robin find the batcave at the end of the film?

5. Why couldn’t the league of shadows make their own bomb?

I wish they would have had more of a ceremony for batman, since they made a big todo about Dent, but batman just got a statue. It was like oh Bruce wayne is dead who cares, you think they city would have a big funeral since he was Gotham's prince and all. That was my only real nitpick to the movie. I loved how the bandages left you to imagine what the prisoners did to bane.

Yea there are some holes but fill them in yourselves. It was a great film. It's plausible Bruce entered part of the city as batman, either by talking to the army or just sneaking in. One can argue he had the army set up the flaming bat sign on the bridge. I think Nolan didn't want to dumb down the film so much that it dragged. All the plot holes can be filled with simple logic.

The only problems I had were technical, like banes voice being the big one at times. That was probably a big fu by Nolan to the complainers tho. Woulda been nice to see more of batman or at least a longer first and second fight with batman using all his tricks in his belt literally but again these are small stuff. The story was good enough. Would be nice for an extended r rated version on DVD that shows more brutality.

As for Blake, you can go either way. Personally I don't think he becomes the new batman because he won't have the funds to be him. I think it's possible he becomes his own version tho using batmans ideas, maybe a robin or a night wing.

1. they wanted Bruce to suffer. They wanted to break him physically and mentally. They wanted him to see his city tear itself apart and prove him wrong about people's inherent goodness.

2. Ra's plan was always to destroy Gotham. So she was fulfilling his mission and exacting revenge.

3. they use anyone they want as a means to an end.

4. Bruce left him the gps coordinates in that bag of stuff he left him in his will.

5. they did make their own. out of Bruce's reactor core. You have to steal the radioactive material somehow. Why not from the guy you want to punish?

as for Bane and Talia not escaping before the bomb went off they had to stay to see it through. they may have had an escape planned but when Bruce returned and brought the war to them they had to make sure he didn't save the city. or maybe they fully intended this to be a suicide mission. their league was very cult like in it's loyalty and conviction to the cause.

Gotta say I really loved the film over all, the tone and pacing I was perfect for me. I really loved Bane as the villain even though I really didn't care for him taking the backseat to talia but just the simple fact that he pushed bats to his max physically and mentally was really captivated me, also Bane's dialogue made me swoon :o

I guess that all makes sense, except i have to watch the film again bc i totally forget Blake getting that stuff in the will. What I still don't get is the need to destroy gotham when crime had dimished so greatly. Philosophically speaking it doesn't seem to match with the message of the league of shadows in the first film but maybe i just have to rewatch it. thanks for the help

Ra's Al Ghul's intent has always been to revert humanity back to almost mideval times - if not even prehistoric.

Anything beyond that is an affront to nature, IHO.

1. Bane and Talia's plan is to watch Gotham tear itself apart. Bane says he wants to give the people hope (letting them live as the bomb's reactor slowly decays) and Talia wants to finish her father's plans (which if you recall from BB was to turn Gotham on itself using chemically induced fear). They could've blown the bomb when they first saw Batman return to Gotham but I'm guessing Bane wanted to defeat Batman and crush any hope Gotham still had for a return to normalcy. As for Talia not blowing the bomb, I think it's likely she was either unaware of Batman's return until it was too late and Batman had taken out the detonator device, making it impossible for her to detonate it.

2. This is a fundamental part of the movie. Yes, the street criminals were gone, in exchange for that safety the corruption that once plagued the streets now plagued the city's laws (The Dent Act locked people away with no parole and stripped criminals of their rights). The truth is that Batman did not save Gotham in BB, he only pushed them toward a new type of corruption, one more deeply entrenched in society (which went on to produce the Joker in TDK). The point of the attack is to take down the corrupt city which has sacrificed its core values of freedom in exchange for security from crime. The act is driven by Talia motivation to avenge and complete her father's mission, but the reason for it is the same Ra's in BB -- to destroy the corruption that was eating away at Gotham.

3. You need to make a better definition of the word criminal and what it means to be a member of the LoS. The LoS IS in fact a criminal organization, they want to commit mass murder. Also, are you referring to the criminals being released from Gotham's prison, because if so, those criminals were definitely not a part of the LoS, they were part of a plot to have Gothamites turn on themselves, forcing them to live in fear of both the bomb and the people they share their city with.

4. He finds the cave because Batman cannot die, Batman is more than a man, Batman is legend. Bruce Wayne can fake his death, but Batman cannot. JGL finds the cave because Bruce knows that thinking you've won and defeated corruption is the only window corruption needs to slip back into society. He knows that corruption isn't gone, it will simply change, and that when it becomes too much for the city to handle on it's own it will need a new Dark Knight to rise up and take Batman's place. Whether he uses the alias Robin, Batman, Nightwing or something else entirely doesn't matter (that's for fan-fics to decide on their own).

Also, he finds the cave using coordinates and gear that Bruce left him in large black bag. I love how JGL following the coordinates and repelling into the cave mirrors the scene where Bruce climbs down the well and finds the cave the first time himself.

5. They could have made their own bomb. But what is central to Bane/Talia's plane is that Gotham destroys itself. Not only that, it was a fusion bomb which is newer, much larger and destructive technology. Also, they needed a bomb that could only be disarmed by one person (Dr. Pavel).

One thing that is just a minor complaint but I still just can't figure out is why did they need to drive the bomb around on a truck? Why not leave it in a heavily guarded area atop a building? Thats actually the most effective place for an atomic bomb is about a mile or so above ground.

I think it's likely she was either unaware of Batman's return until it was too late and Batman had taken out the detonator device, making it impossible for her to detonate it.

She had the chance when Bruce was later 'captured', but then she makes a big deal later about wanting it to be a slow but dramatic reveal of her betrayal so maybe thats why she waited.

So many nods from comics present -

* Selina Kyle is called as Cat Burglar (nod to Catwoman) her side kick Kitrina.

* Nod to batman Beyond (Bruce with a cane.)

* Nod to Lazarus pit.

* Nod to graphic novel: Bane of the Demon.

* Nod to comics (Batman: KnightFall) with iconic moment Bane breaking the Bat.

* Nod to graphic novel Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. (the end scenes.)

* Nod to Tim Drake (Robin.)

* Nod to Adam west series (similar looking Bomb.)

Nod to killer croc

it had to be in a thick lead lined box to be hidden from radiation detectors.
otherwise bats would have detected it by hacking into defense satellites, then came around with the Bat and jammed their trigger signal with his emp and carried it off into the bay.

a moving target with decoys is actually a pretty safe plan I'd think.

so bruce switched bats before flying it over the water, right? i wondered what lucius's guys were examining if the bat exploded.

That's something I was scratching my head with. So did he fix all of the autopilots in all of The Bats? And also, why didn't Bane take any of the extra Bats?

Question: Why didn't Bruce just climb the rope that was attached to him in the pit? You'd think with his strength, he'd be out in no time.

The rope only goes up to the ledge and then then from the ledge to the top of the pit is smooth walls so you have to jump to the next ledge where there is either a rope which takes you to the top or hand holds.

Am I the only one that thought Alfred had such a small role. like Michael Caine probably was only on the set a week he was in it so little compared to what I remember in previous films

Definately something I noticed and agree with!

Hey, just watched the movie and there was something I was a little confused about. Maybe it's been a while since I've watched The Dark Knight, but I don't recall Bruce suffering a concussion and leg injury lethal enough to last him 8 years. Where did he get that from?

Also, was there a scene where Selina Kyle gets enwrapped with Bane, that she felt threatened enough to have to betray Batman to save her life? Or did she give him up for some other reason? Just seems like she spent the whole beginning part of the movie trying to prove to everyone that she wasn't afraid of any man, only to turn around and succumb to the will of one.

Really enjoyed the film, I think it has toppled The Avengers in my film of the year thus far.
I was worried that The Amazing Spiderman being released so close to the release of Dark Knight Rises would take away its shine, but apparently it hit it out of the park anyway. :hrt:

1) Bruce did fix all the Bats. I had the same issue at first but upon second viewing, you can see the Bat that Lucius and crew were examining is in a different colou (greyish green);
2) That's a very good question as to why didn't Bane take any of the extra Bats. Some may treat it as a plot hole but I think it's more likely related to the storage of the Bat. If you remember when lucius was introducing the Bat to Bruce, to hidden in a chamber behind what looked like a normal wall. So I could only assume that Bane's men never knew about the other Bat's existence.
