I try not to spaz over rumors, etc, and I may be a homer or a fan boy, but I would love to see Bruce continue to be Batman. Not saying I wouldnt be happy with the movie despite an ending different than this. Even though this Batman has a desire it seems to retire at some point, Bruce always had a stronger desire to remain Batman.

Shape,

It has nothing to do with context, if the last scene is JGL finding the cave and suit, then I will be disappointed. If the film ends with Bruce assumed dead and living a secret life with Selina, I will be disappointed. The one ending I was really dreading was Bruce giving up being Batman for a normal life with hints that somone else may take up the mantle. I would rather of him died than that. Again, just my opinion, which I'm entitled to. Also, I believe it's possible for me to think that it's an amazing film with a let down ending.

I think either Lucius or Alfred is a goner - judging by the fact that we think Alfred is around at the end, it may be Lucius that bites it. Which would make sense if hes around, tampering with the WE reactor when Bane is trying to steal it.

We've seen pictures of Lucius messing with the control panel on the WE reactor (and I think the reactor is still present in the background) so we know he's there alone, the scene is focusing around what he's doing on that control panel, he has a look on his face that implies danger or that he is rushing to get something done, and we know Bane ends up with the reactor in the end.

I have feared this all along. :csad: Though, I must say,
if one of them has to go, I prefer it be him over Alfred. If Alfred dies, I will really and truly be broken.

Lets be honest here. Nolan is a fan of realism. Even if you were the fittest guy on the planet, having your back broken and trying to come back to being 'batman' will be extremely hard, if not improbable. Besides, the body breaks down as it ages and we're no longer at the physical/mental peak that we used to be at. For example, the physicists best work is in their 20's/30's. An athlete's height of his career is in his 20's.

In Batman Begins, Bruce is 30 years old when he starts to don the cape. That is a very late start.

How old can we assume Bruce is in The Dark Knight Rises? Didn't 8 years elapse from TDK and TDKR or something?

I'm just giving you some realism. Sure movies are made to entertain and give us a break from reality but it's nice to see a mix of myth and reality in a movie.

Shape not to beat a dead horse, but I was wondering if you can shed any further light on your response to the post I link to here: http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?p=23834783&highlight=#post23834783

When I asked you before about the vomitting response, I think you didn't recall that particular comment. I found it and it may be splitting hairs, but just curious what your vomitting reaction is/was referring to. Was it in direct response to the part that is bolded within the spoiler tags? Thanks!

I'm just jumping in here, but the ending sounds lame.

Wouldn't we want a bruce wayne that won't quit until he's dead.

Sure we do. But does Bruce?

Like Nolan said, how long can he allow the pain to control his life? Nolan is just trying to be realistic about the whole thing.

Bruce was never going to die; these films are intelligent, but WB still has toys to sell.

The only thing I want to know from Shape about the ending is -- was it satisfying?

He's pretty much said yes a hundred times to that.

Doesn't seem to be calmIng anyone down.

And like Bale keeps saying in interviews,
Bruce in essence learns a valuable lesson late in life. That he's 'wasted' his life by being caught up in his anger about what happened to him as a child. Seems they want him to be able to find a way to move past the pain and get on with his life, while also 'saving' Gotham, as it were. A kind of have your cake and eat it too kind of ending.

I'm still on the fence with my personal feelings about it ending that way.

lol just watch the movie and then come back and talk about how much you hated the ending. Im sick of reading people complain about a movie they haven't even seen. If you are really convinced it will be bad, then don't see it. End discussion on that lol

Kind of more powerful of he manages to reconcile the Bat with the man.

Much more powerful if he can get over his grief and still be a hero.

But hey, I'm sure it works in the movie.

But is Bruce Wayne becoming "more than just a man". "A legend" :cwink: That is such a huge theme in this series, it makes complete sense to me

So Bale joins the spoiler leakage brigade.

There is another big reveal involving another character, although it would be a spoiler to describe it.

"I've got no idea if that is actually going to go anywhere, you know, or not," Bale says of the possibility of a spin-off franchise. "It's got nothing to do with me at all. But certainly it teases, doesn't it?"

Absolutely! That would be my preference.

I'm trying to wait and see exactly how it plays out before judging it, but upon the description I can't help but find issues with it. But I can see the argument from both sides.

All this secrecy for it to come undone in the press during the last week of waiting.

Definitely calls back to it being more about the symbol that Batman represents. "As a man, I can be ignored, I can be destroyed. But as a symbol.."

But still, I find issue with the fact that we've been with Bruce for three movies now and
Blake is just being introduced and may just get the batsuit handed to him.

There HAS to be more to it than this. And theshape even said the way its being written and talked about is way out of context. Nolan wouldn't let people just spill the beans about something so important. I think there are some big details we are not aware of.

I feel like you right now. We got trolled big time. "Epic Conclusion" my arse!

To be fair to Bale, he has to do so many interviews he will probably make a mis-step or two...it's hard having to answer similar questions over and over again.

I think by out of context, people might just mean outside the film. The context is the fact that the film probably spends a good deal of time selling us the John Blake character. Right now it's a shock because we have not seen him before, but after we spend almost three hours with him in the theater, we may feel differently.
