The 52 '52' Spinoffs, Which Ones & Why?

I don't see myself sticking with the Crime Bible thing for long. It seems to have something to do with Batwoman, and I'd hate to see that *****e again.

Haha, its funny cuz shes a lesbian and she prolly gets off with *****es.

or, at least i do:csad:

i don't know about alot of these Countdown to adventure, four horsemen, countdown to mystery
but i think i'll get:
Booster Gold
Search for Ray Palmer
Black Adam
already getting Countdown
and i'll probably get the first issues of the others and see how they go

Apparently there will also be a miniseries, The Death of the New Gods. I think thats more of a tie-in to Countdown, but I thought I'd give you guys a heads up that there will be another spinoff for a huge DC event. I'm sure its the first of many.

^ YES! See? And the 'hits' just keep on comin'!

**Editor's Note: DC, take it easy, we're not going anywhere, but some of us may have to quit reading your books if you don't slow down the tie-ins! :( **

Okay, so in addition to the previously mentioned "limited series", (including the Crime Bible one), I just read about a couple more...

Death of the News Gods (8 issues)
Countdown Presents: Lord Havok & the Extremists (6 issues)

...so if you're keeping track (and we are), that's a grand total of 11 '52' spinoff series coming out within a 3 month period of time! :wow: :down

Excessive? ...I don't think that word is flagrant enough!

I'm not certain, mind you, but I think "Countdown Presents: Lord Havok & the Extremists" might be more of a Countdown spinoff than a 52 spinoff. Remember, though: that's just pure speculation on my part.

So they're comic based on parodies of Marvel Villains?

Since Countdown was the first spinoff or "sequel" to '52', and there are so many new books that coincide, and since DC is doing all of this mostly b/c of the success of '52', I figure they all kinda lump into that category. :whatever:

If it weren't for 52's relaunch of the megaverse, we wouldn't get "Lord Havok...", but it's all the same in the end. :)

Sure, and if not for Infinite Crisis' plot by Alexander Luthor and the rest of the CoIE holdovers, there would've been no shifting of Earths to create New Earth and the Multiverse; and if not for Identity Crisis, which exposed how horrible the post-CoIE heroes had become, there would've been no plot by Alex and the others; and if not for Crisis on Infinite Earths' conflict, after which Alex and the others went into their little outside-of-the-universe paradise, they wouldn't have witnessed the events of Identity Crisis; and if not for the first Earth-1 Flash/Earth-2 Flash team-up, there wouldn't have been any Multiverse to be destroyed in CoIE, forcing Alex and the others into their paradise; and if not for Superman's success in Action Comics #1, there would've been no more superheroes like the Flashes. So, really, this thread should be called "The 52 'Action Comics #1' Spinoffs, Which Ones & Why?" and it should include every superhero comic ever printed.

Awesome, I'll get a mod over here to change the title while you start compiling that list of comics. :)

I think i'm just gonna wait for the trade on that Black Adam and Metal Men. Everything else i'll just skip.

What makes Metal Men such a compelling read b/c a lot of people say that's high on their list, and I personally have no desire to read it??

I dig the art and the concept. Metal Men has always been one of those properties that I've wanted to get into but never read anything really, you know, good with them. Just like Challengers of the Unknown (who I'd love to see brought back. And not like that crappy one they did a couple of years ago.) So i'll give them a shot every time they're brought back. Loved what they did with them in 52, so, I've got a good feeling about them this time around.

The only one I am definitively going to get at this point is the Four Horsemen miniseries. Keith Giffen + Wonder Woman/Veronica Cale's reunion = YES.

I'm going to give Crime Bible a try, mostly because Greg Rucka could write a phonebook and I'd probably give it a try.

Booster Gold...possibly yes.

Everything else sorta relies on Countdown getting better -- much better -- than it is right now.

It looks like it's going to be more of a comedy, which the DC universe could sorely use right about now. Plus, Duncan Rouleau's art has probably never been better suited to a property than it is to Metal Men. The promo pics I've seen so far look fantabulous. Plus, I've always wanted to get into the Metal Men more, so the new series is a perfect spot to jump on.

Metal Men were written very well in 52. I'm just hoping DC can continue this on.

Thanks for the input. I did enjoy the MM writing in '52' so I get the current enthusiasm. Corp, you're right about the comedy aspect of the DCU, severly lacking. :(

But the Metal Men were recently in Superman/Batman and no one was buzzing about that? Of course, I know it's probably b/c it is DC's worst book now that Loeb's off it. :down

Little secret there Prog, it kinda was before he left.

Haha, I agree there was some  stuff in there, but at least it was fun.

It was what it was. It was like a Michael Bay movie, pre-Transformers.

I'll probably decide which spin offs I want when I physically see them.
