There marketing little by little which isn't bad, for example the NBA playoff tv spot & they were using advertising TDKR during the game

Nolan & crew know what they're doing

[YT]NcTDj0t__fA[/YT] - it can be heard in this video.

SO. BAD.***.

Okay, I'm still calling Gotham as having a low amount of ammunition as a way of explaining why either side doesn't just massacre the other. And it looks like the cops held onto some non-lethal weaponry since Bane's boys didn't want them. But now there actually seems to be some strategy to the cops marching up and charging. They're counting on the undisciplined members of Bane's army to break ranks and make this a melee as quickly as possible. So they're just quietly marching up in a quiet but intimidating fashion, and only charge with noise when their opponents lose their coordination. That's how the Romans used to do it.

If you guys remember this interview with Wally Pfister, he said something very interesting:

Wally Pfister said:
The first two days of filming, which we did on IMAX, took place in Jodhpur, Rajasthan in India, where we shot portions of the story out in the desert that tie in with the Cardington sets.

I think he's talking about the well which Bruce climbs up. So if India and the desert will be featured, the prison most likely isn't in the middle of Gotham as suggested before.

I've said it before, and I'll say it now. This movie doesn't really need marketing. You know what it's biggest bit of marketing is? The Dark Knight. Everyone saw it. Everyone wants to see the next one. Everyone knows it's coming out. Since those are the two chief goals the marketing department has, I'd say let 'em on vacation.

just a reminder folks. we shouldn't equate bad marketing with our constant jonesing for new info/pics on tdkr.

Thinking about the story now, i have a feeling this movie will take place over a span of at least month or so (excluding flashbacks of course)... Given that set photos revealed "rain scenes" with Miranda Tate at Wayne Manor to heavy snow in Gotham during the Pittsburgh shoots, my guess is that Bruce Wayne is Bane's captive for a month or so. (and grows facial hair/scruff in prison). He's in captivity long enough for the seasons to change,

Not to mention, the football scene doesn't look like winter.

just my thoughts.

The cops are rumoured to be [BLACKOUT]trapped for 3 months[/BLACKOUT].
I think that would be from the day of the football game until Batman gets home. A good portion of the film will happen before this, Beardy Bruce could be hobbling around Wayne Manor for months perhaps.

I'm thinking end of Summer through Winter?

The wardrobe of the people at Wayne's garden party at the manor (not sure if this is the same as the Dent tribute) looks summer-ish.

There are some scenes without snow and fall clothing. In fact it seems that everyone's wearing coats except for Bruce Wayne. :funny:

Scenes with snow would be winter.

I thought I read that interview but wow I totally missed that quote specially about the desert. Sounds like it will be the backdrop for the cave/well that they built at the Cardington sets. Maybe that's the scene they will show after Bruce climbs out (and the flashback to young Ra's and little Talia).

"Jonesing" for better versions of existing pics.

that will come in due time, when the maximum amount of buzz could be achieved. also, what pics are you referring to by the way? the total film scans?

I see. Well, they've done it before in the past months so why not release them now? They can release other newer pics when the maximum amount of buzz is needed. I'm sure there's tons of good stuff lined up but why not release a few HQ stills before the main campaign? It wouldn't hurt, you know. I'm not talking about some crazy viral marketing - just a few HQ stills.

Anyway, I was referring to the recent TotalFilm pics like you said, and the pics from EW's latest issue.

it's probable that the footage/pics that they will release in the next two months will be a rethread of the footage/pics they have already released. they're probably saving the good stuff for the movie. the decimation of the gotham rogues field (it's not heinz field anymore. :oldrazz: ) and the shots of the bat are the only "big" money shots we'll probably get. and if this turns out to be wb's marketing strategy, focusing on the diversity of the mediums of promotion instead of the diversity of content then good on them. contrary to what some may think, i actually think wb smartly played their marketing of tdkr.

as much as i enjoyed the avengers, marvel putting the shot that circles around the team and hulk catching iron man in their marketing was just dumb.

and rogue, i don't count you as one of the people who incessantly complain about wb's marketing when all they're doing is just being greedy. you're qualm with the campaign is reasonable unlike some of the posters i see here.

I found a tourist shot of the early well here, right edge of the picture.

The fort will be a big feature, but they also chose the only side which isn't surrounded by houses, so I think they'll show it as an isolated place rather than the edge of a busy city.

Hah exact same thing she said during Inception (about going to the movies with no information). Oh you "Good Girl" Miranda Tate. :hehe:

http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=34012

Sadly, she refused to confirm whether Bane will be using irate orca to rain hell on Gotham in The Dark Knight Rises, remaining as tight-lipped about Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming trilogy-capper as the rest of its cast.

“I cannot say much, as you know, which is a good thing. I like to go to the movies without any information, then you have surprises. But as you saw from the last trailer, I get to kiss Batman.” And how was it? “How was it to kiss Batman?” she smiles, enigmatically, then mock-shudders. “Jeez…”

Or did she say, “Cheese”? Has Batman been eating gouda? SPOILER!

Ahhh, that's a good way of looking at it. It's not about showing more footage, it's about finding creative and fresh ways of showing existing footage, kinda like what they did with the NBA TV Spot. In that case, I agree, that's the way to go

as much as i enjoyed the avengers, marvel putting the shot that circles around the team and hulk catching iron man in their marketing was just dumb.
I haven't seen the film yet so I can't really say, but I loved that circle shot in the trailer. However, I agree that the Hulk catching Iron Man was silly to put in any footage.

and rogue, i don't count you as one of the people who incessantly complain about wb's marketing when all they're doing is just being greedy. you're qualm with the campaign is reasonable unlike some of the posters i see here.
Thanks. To be honest with you, I don't think WB has done a bad job at all, I just let my insatiable hunger for more stills cause me to get frustrated. The marketing has been subtle and great, just like the trailer, it's just that I think I have OCD for more stills :oldrazz: and I don't know much about marketing anyway so... yeah, can't really judge :funny:

I just feel like Warner are getting mixed up, they are confusing not really needing to promote a film with not really promoting a film at all. Believe or not I know qute a few people who don't even know a third film is coming out or have at least forgotten about it and what are we now like two months away? I remember the January before TDK came out and was pretty much non stop talked about.

I know several more people looking forward to Prometheus and The Amazing Spiderman more mainly because the marketing has been quite non stop for a long time. WB don't NEED to really market this film as the figures will likely be there but haven't really been doing any at all. If this was a gneric run of the mill studio film like The Green Hornet or The Hangover then fine this would do but this is being labelled as the biggest film of the year. We have had nothing for pretty much 3 weeks (excluding Total Film which didn't really show anything new) and before that there was also longer dry spells.

There have been multiple articles and a lot of them have been greeted with fan responses of "Here we go" and "the huge marketing is starting again now" only to be met with another series of nothing.

so do i. im already having a hard time avoiding the tv spots and they haven't even really arrived yet.:wow:

i'm even thinking of leaving this place for awhile when the anticipated tdkr promo barrage occurs.

and ive been wrong about wb's marketing before. i thought that the trailer for tdkr was going to be attached with dark shadows and not along with the avengers. so, take my ramblings for exactly what they are... ramblings. :woot:

From the Rolling Stone article on Bane:

"Bane is someone ravaged by pain from a trauma suffered long ago, and the mask dispenses a type of anesthetic that keeps his pain just below the threshold so he can function." - Chris Nolan

Okay now re-read that and replace "Bane" with "Bruce Wayne". Don't think of it in a literal sense. Food for thought. Kind of adds a new level of appreciation for why they chose Bane.

I'm not having a hard time, because I don't even think about avoiding it. I just dive in and get my hands on it without second thoughts :oldrazz:

That would be a wise decision. As for myself, I will lap up everything official like a rabid dog. The only thing I would never do is read a leaked script or acquire a leaked version of the film - those things I am good at resisting.

Well, same here. My rant's on the marketing are just that... rants :) It's just that I love collecting pics like the ones for this film and then organising them on my computer.

Yeap, Bane deals with physical pain while Bruce is more emotional/psychological. We should see parallels of that running through the movie.

They are smart to let Avengers hype die down before going full throttle with the marketing campaign.

June is the month to hit hard. Then all out blitz in July.

Did you conduct a thorough scientific research on your opinion, about TDKR not needing any marketing because TDK served as a more than enough sufficient marketing for TDKR?

Because all my colleagues know nothing about TDKR. Many have seen BB and TDK but know nothing about TDKR, not even who the villains will be for "Batman 3". I'm sure hardcore Bat fans will know but bats has many casual fans. Many of those guys are not tracking TDKR.

I think we'll relate to Bane's ideals to the same extent we related to Joker's. Joker spoke some truth, but he took an explosive turn with it. Our sympathy for Bane will come from the rich vs. poor thing.

Exactly the same for me as I said Warner are confusing not needing to market a movie to not marketing one at all.

Yep. Plus people need to give WB marketing some credit, attaching trailer #3 to The Avengers was the best possible move they could have made. They will reach a HUGE audience with that, and it's an incredible trailer.

Other than that, there's no point releasing tv spots and posters while the Avengers is still in full swing. There is plenty of time.

Personally, I find WB marketing for all of Nolan's films very intelligent. The only thing worse than under-exposion is over-exposion. Remember the relentless marketing for Fantastic Four? I was sick of that damn film six months before it even came out.
