I'm not sure I see the problem. Three partners will always pale in scale in comparison to the comics. Take Raimi's Spider-verse and contrast it to the comics.

I like that there were no cheesy "easter eggs" in TDK and very few in Begins. It's enough that I am getting an excellently written, directed and acted adaptation of my favorite superhero. I don't need the film to be full of goofy shout-outs and references that only nerds will get.
I agree that easter eggs shouldn't be used solely as a wink to the audience, but I also feel like you are a bit off the mark. I feel like Zzazz was an easter egg of sorts that wasn't exactly a needed part of the story. I think it was placed there simply as an easter egg for nerds. It was a small thing that fit with the story and made me very happy...so I am hoping for more of that.

TDK had the "capped crusader" reference.

What were the ones in BB?

Does anyone know if the quotes -

"two-faced phonies" in Batman Begins
and
"should do fine against Cats" in The Dark Knight

were intentional references from the Nolans in regard to the next film's villains? Or was it just a coincidence?

I don't think that's an appropriate comparison though. You have to be aware of what you're comparing exactly - 3 movies to 3 particular stories from the comics, or 3 movies to thousands of comics, all set in different universes, developed over the course of many, many years.

I really liked Zsasz in BB. So minor yet you could tell the actor who played him had fun with it. It was awesomely creepy in a way. I'm hoping for more "cameos" like that.

Yeah I liked Zsasz too, but that was different because he was an actual character. I'm talking about stuff like Carol Ferris' pilot codename being "Sapphire" or Tony Stark's captors being called the "Ten Rings". Random references that add nothing to the film, fly over the heads of 90% of the audience, and don't even really fit with the mythology of the comics anyway. Nolan's movies have so far steered clear of that sort of thing.

I think it would be a shame if there WAS an 8 year hiatus. Think about all of the rogues that this universe just missed out on. Think of how boring of a universe it really would turn out to be.

I totally agree with you. I love Nolan's Batman and his interpretation of the character and his villains thus far, but if Batman has been gone for an entire 8 years (literally... as in not working in the shadows at all), I'd be pretty disappointed.

When I said comics I obviously meant all the issues of the 616 Spidey from Amazing Fantasy 15.

I wouldn't count that as a reference, per say. "The Caped Crusader" is something people call Batman in the comics, and it was the same in the movie. It's no more of a reference than calling Batman "a Dark Knight".

I was just wondering that myself. Nolan has said that he just focuses on one movie at a time and that he doesnt plan sequels being definitive things, but I kind of doubt that.

If it is just BB and TDK (which in total spans roughly a year) then 8 years absent and then TDKR then he finishes Batman it wouldn't really seem Batman has done a lot (obviously when comparing it to the comic world)

Roger Nall Tweeted about his wife going to see a cut of TDKR!!!! -

To all those who asked, the report back is "Excellent!" Also, to those who asked, 3hrs + #GonnaBeEpic

:wow:

If it's currently 3 hours or longer, it'll be interesting to see how much gets chopped out when it's said and done.

I thought we all pretty much agreed he was out of commission for those 8 years? I mean, Bruce kinda tells us that in the commercial and Gordon tells us that in the teaser.

"We were in this together, then you were gone... the Batman must come back."

"I need you to get me back into the game."

Forgive my ignorance, but who is Roger Nall? why are we believing him? who is his wife? Just need some info before I lose my s*** in excitement.
