The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 1

Well I'm waiting for the next director to be announced. I really have no expectations for this film, I'm more interested in the behind the scenes drama.

I forgot but wasn't Seth Grahame-smith let go from the Flash? I mean it publicly said that it was creative differences, but that could mean anything.

I thought he was let go because post BVS WB got cold feet about letting a writer helm a 150 million plus budget DCEU movie?

Found it, it was from the Wrap article on Seth Grahame-Smith's departure

https://www.google.com/amp/www.thew...-over-creative-differences/amp/?client=safari

Grahame-Smith was poised to make his feature directorial debut with the superhero film, which will star Ezra Miller as speedster Barry Allen. Warner Bros. is said to be pleased with Grahame-Smith’s script, but ultimately wanted a more experienced filmmaker guiding the production.

I think it was still an extremely risky move to even put a writer with no directing experience a big budget movie as his first directing job. Not that he was a great writer either.

I looks like the issues with Famuyiwa stemmed from him wanting to take the story into a different direction.

He obviously means cameo as Iris, not Clemons

i dont care anymore, i just wanted see a JL movie in my life if i can see that next year i am happy, if dceu die and no more flash, aquaman ,batman or superman movies will be made i dont care

LOL. Shia Lebouf "Just Do It!" mentality. I like your thinking!

This whole scenario just strikes me as odd, given that Famuyiwa was just teasing about working on the script a few weeks back on social media and we just recently found out some of his production crew from Dope were coming on this.

"I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical, and multicultural point of view"

I think Famuyiwa wanted to do something completely different which probably wasn't in line with Johns version of "classic Barry", perhaps more Spider-Man Homecoming then Spider-Man 1.

Just delay it a few months and get someone right for the job. No need to cancel it.

I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but has anyone read Scott Mendleson's Forbes article? - something along the lines of 'DC doesn't have to give the Flash his own movie'

http://www.forbes.com/sites/scottme...scarlet-speedster-his-own-movie/#1c44d786cda6

I imagine it's pretty self explanatory, but wondered what his rationale was for such a viewpoint?

It's really not even worth thinking about. Mendelson is a toolbag and often writes pointless click-baity "articles" like this when he has nothing else to write about.

I read it. His rationale is that the Flash is already doing well on tv, and the DCEU could easily function without a Flash movie franchise.

While I believe in those two points it's still not enough reason to not make a Flash franchise.
I think that a Flash franchise (well received of course) could be a huge money maker.

Clemons, who will portray Iris West in The Flash film, had previously worked with Rick Famuyiwa on Dope and commented on the directors decision to drop out of the project.

“Rick was one of the main reasons I wanted to do the movie,” she explains. “So him not being a part of it is obviously very upsetting to me.”

There is currently no word on who will replace Famuyiwa, which Clemons did note.

“All I can do is give it up to the gods,” she said. “Let’s see what happens. Let’s see who’s going to jump in.”

Though the film is currently without a director, Clemons assured fans that both she and co-star Ezra Miller, who will play The Fastest Man Alive, will remain true to their original visions for their respective characters.

“Ezra and I are going to do what we promised to do from the beginning,” Clemons said. “No matter who the director is, I am going to do what I think Iris should be.”

Ezra talks about the Flash in this interview (@ 3:40 mark or so it starts)

All I can think of is the cosmic treadmill.

After the news of Famuyiwa's departure I'm worried Clemons might bounce too. Sounds like she likes what she and Rick came up with for the character and she wants to stick to her guns. I wish her luck and hope that the cast and crew of the Flash can weather the storm. I hope they all make it, but I think her casting in particular was inspired.

It's not sounding like Clemons is leaving, especially since she filmed a JL cameo

Ezra Miller on ‘The Flash’ Director Shakeups
http://collider.com/the-flash-movie-ezra-miller-directors/

Lots of good stuff in here...

“I mean I’ve been investigating and composing the character since the moment I started considering doing the screen test,” he said. “Fortunately, a lot of that research is extremely fun and involves reading Flash Comics and other comics from the world of DC, The Brave and the Bold, and I’m really interested in the early history and some of my favorite stuff is Silver Age. Even the Golden Age and the Jay Garrick stuff, the original Flash. It’s just so fascinating, so endlessly compelling. It’s such an incredible set-up for exploration, all these fascinating concepts in physics, in mysticism, in fantasy… he can go anywhere. He’s that figure of the DC pantheon who transcends the realms, sort of like Hermes or Mercury before him in the respective Greek and Roman mythologies that the character’s (creator) Gardner Fox clearly very much based (him on).”

Ezra says production for The Flash is about to start, they might announce a new director till the end of the year. Let's hope everything goes well this time.
