Well, I'm back and you know what ?
I loved it. It's different, it's entertaining and most of all it's heartfelt. There are some moments with Peter and Uncle Ben, that really touched me. The humor is great and overall, I just really enjoyed myself.

I'm not one for long reviews or anything and if I had to grade it I'd say it's a very solid 8 out of 10. If I had to name three nitpicks I'd say that it's unfortunate the CGI for Lizard wasn't really good, could and should have been better. There is a slightly cheesy scene near the end involving construction workers and cranes. And next time I really want a villain who's just bad for the F of it.

But other than that, I enjoyed every minute of it.

Montages work fine. But if you can go in to depth with the material an it's done well, even better IMO.

This is part of the reason why I'm happy with the origin being told again. It seems to go a bit more in depth and the tone of the film looks overall better. So seeing it from a tonal point of view is enough for me to be interested in this origin retelling.

Like I keep saying, I hope it's a cracker :)

montages can work, but my point is that would be the laziest of lazy filmaking. show me, dont tell me. and that doesnt mean it needs to be an origin story, but you can fill the holes creatively DURING the movie. make mention in a conversation, go to bens gravestone, picture by the bedside, have him try to find out what the hell happened with the spider that bit him-anything. but having a recap like it was a lost episode is unbelievable lazy at best.

but the idea of conveying this idea of GUILT in a montage.....wow.

Its funny because a lot of people praised the CGI in this film. Did it feel like watching the 2002 film all over again?

Nice. I like Peter Travers.

He was generous with Raimi's version and Nolan's films as well.

But I think knocking a point and a half off because the previous movies exist is a bit excessive, even though he said he was a good movie.

goddamn it. i think that whatever it is with
construction workers
is going to kill this for me. it really burned me that last too.

I love how we get one photo of Andrew reading Avengers comic books, and suddenly everyone is so excited. It is not proof of Spider-Man being in an Avengers movie. Andrew even said he loved the Avengers, so he probably just has an interest in the comic books.

So we'll need 8 consecutive positive reviews to bring us back up to 80% at this point.
Cross your fingers.

I'm not talking about the average, I'm saying the consensus seems to be that the film is average. Good, but nothing ground-breaking or amazing. And before you make this mistake, as I'm sure you will, average =/= bad.

Origin films are rarely amazing or ground breaking

Naah
The 2002 film had really poor webslinging effects. In TASM the CGI and the slinging in particular are top notch IMO. It's just the Lizard that's not up there in terms of quality. When he spoke his mouth moved weird and kinda took me out of it. They might as well have given him a snout because it's not as if him having a flat face made it that he shows tons of emotion through his mouth. It wasn't done well enough for that, it was mostly in the eyes. But the movie itself is great fun trust me.

Ah, it's not horrid or anything, just something you'll roll your eyes at for a second. It would fit perfect with one of Raimis films, for TASM it's kinda out of place

Umm, Peter Traver's gave it a pretty mediocre/negative review,if ya ask me. 2 and a half stars? Really? "Spider-Man 3" at least had 3-stars. Naturally, he gave the best review to "Spider-Man 2". So are we really to believe that as bad as Spidey 3 was, this is somehow even worse??

Anyways, kinda sucks Travers wasn't too happy with it,with the exception of Garfield and Stone.

^ A two and a half out of 4 stars is the equivalent to 3.5/5

Yeah just from what I've seen in the trailers, I know I'm going to have a problem with the Lizard CGI. Hopefully it's minimal.

It sounds like most Spider-Man fans and general audience members will give it better reviews than the critics.

I've only seen one or two shots where the CGI isn't that great. Most of the members who saw the film said they liked the Lizard's appearance in the movie.
