The Amazing Spider-Man The Amazing Spider-Man (First Reactions: Critics, Fans) (Spoiler Alert) - - - - - Part 14

I bet you any money that if the Raimi films didn't exist and that this was all we had, it'd be getting better reviews than The Avengers.
It'd be higher, but not Avengers high. Avengers was nearly flawless for what it was. TASM has flaws beyond being a reboot.

but the thing is in this movie its not the ice water to the face that turns him fighting crime. He goes out looking for the man who shot his uncle.

I didn't have a problem with it, if fact I have a problem that it stops and disappears.

The more I think about it the more I fInd this movie to the best spiderman yet. I love sm2 and have placed it only behind avengers and maybe tdk until now but this movie feels like a step up in almost every aspect besides the villain. And thats more of a compliment to ock than a knock on the lizard.

i think the problem is there was a Raimi series. This movie tries hard not to be the Raimi series. If this was the first Spider-man movie ever would Lizard be the villain? Would they adapt more from Ultimate than 616? Would this be the suit or the design from the comics? Would Uncle Ben's killer gotten away?

If it was the same script, story, and director, I think everything might be the same except they'd probably have more liberty to do stuff that hadn't been done yet aside from the parents.

They don't even explain it or what it means. They think the audience has to see the origin again to explain everything but they miss little stuff like that.

If you want to be technical about it, they didn't in Raimi's movies either.
Peter never said: "My spider-sense is tingling!"
The audience knew what that was. They aren't completely ******ed and helpless.

A lot of those decisions were Marc Webb's, so yeah a lot of it probably would have taken place. Marc Webb isn't Sam Raimi, so if this movie was released before Raimi's or if Raimi's never existed it still wouldn't be like Raimi's.

The Avengers and TASM are completely different movies. Comparing them is almost nonsensical.

TASM had a lot going against it since it was announced and has many problems that comes with retelling an origin story.

The Avengers, on the other hand, is the sixth movie in a never-ending series of films, with each character having one or more films in which their back stories were developed. This first movie in the reboot was going to get mixed reviews from the start. I'm really excited to see where the next Spider-Man film takes us and the direction it'll head in.

Elaborate please. :woot:
Technically speaking, The Avengers was better paced, not as choppy, featured a more compelling villain, and had better individual characterization. But as D4rkShaDoWz so rightly says, you can't really compare them story to story because they're so vastly different. The Avengers is a better made film, regardless of how you feel about the film's overall effectiveness. Critics would take note of that.

Yes they did. They said that the spiders have a pre-cognitive ability that alerts them to danger seconds before...hence Peter got that ability when he got bit. It even showed in SM1 time slowing when Flash was about to punch him and he was astounded that he could react so fast. They don't need to say "My spidey sense is tingling!" The musical cues are fine for that...but ASM didn't explain wtf the musical cue was other than a musical cue. For people on here to HAVE to see him building his own costume to make a more believable story, they don't say or show anything about how radioactive spiders can sense danger before it happens and how Peter got that ability. Raimi just did a much better job showcasing the reasoning behind it to the audience.

They didn't need to spell it out for you in black and white so cool your ****.

I believe they said this while on the class trip in SM1. :ikyn

I enjoyed both Avengers and ASM the same but as far as a better made film with better character development id have to say Spidey.

I was more emotionally compelled with Spidey for obvious reasons.

They didn't need to show Peter googling spandex to know that he built the suit. But you bet your butt people in here were getting goosebumps over that. We don't need everything spelled out for us yet people on here constantly complain that things aren't spelled out for us and I was showcasing that irony.

What express is cool my ****? That is the first time I have literally ever heard that.

So I take it you dont like Nolans way of spelling everything out in his bat-films?

It's tough to compare Avengers to Spidey....a spidey reboot will never go the lengths of the Avengers a film that has been built through 5 films, obviously it has more spectacle and ambition, but spidey trumps it on story...so while i think Avengers is the better made film, I'll always put story over everything else, and Avengers has none.

The next movie will be interesting to see. They aren't tied down by any villian and the origin has now been told, they are free to go in any direction they want. I really hope they don't pick a villian that needs copious amounts of CG to realise.

I wouldn't say the Avengers has no story. At the very least, it shows a character evolution of Tony Stark from smarmy, self-absorbed a**hole to the guy who's willing to risk the ultimate sacrifice to save others.
