I get some of the criticsms of the film, but I think some are reaaally overblown, I mean of course you are allowed to feel the way you all feel, I guess I just don't notice all these little pacing issues you guys do, I loove the farm scenes, the only place where I feel ok this is weird is the Thor cave scene and a couple scenes earlier in the film but I get over it quick.

Alot of the debates over AOU reminds me of the debates about TDKR. You basically have a film in which most people agree is good but the execution of ideas,themes, characters, and plots was the dividing line between those who really loved it and those who thought it was okay. So you had those who love it passionately defend it and those who thought it was just okay highlighting the flaws that kept it from being great. I don't think the opinion on AOU is as polarized as something like MOS.


Even the bonehead death threats by fanboys remind me of the fanboys who threatened critics on Rotten tomatoes who didn't like TDKR.

even though I enjoy AOU much more than TDKR this is a really good comparison. And a great post.

I am not sure. It has something to do with Black Widow's character being "sexist" somehow.

Yeah. This definitely reminds me of TDKR; opinion starts good then slowly morphs into "it's the worst thing ever gwaaaaa!" as minor flaws get blown out of proportion.

right now TDKR is my least favorite of the Bat Nolan films. AOU def wins out over that and MOS. Its not even close.

Idk why all the hate imo it was much better than the first ... I thought ultron was pretty awesome loved when he has that talk with jarvis in the beginning..I also loved that scene in the end when ultron & vision are talking

He shouldn't be "letting it all out" roughly two weeks after HIS film was released worldwide.

That's a little petty and, as both a grown man and professional filmmaker, he should have been able to hold his tongue a little while longer instead of essentially bad-mouthing the studio that allowed him to make two of the biggest movies ever (and also made him very, very rich).

Hey, it worked both ways. If they didn't think he'd do a great job, they would have hired someone else. It's not like Marvel was doing all the favors here. After TA, Marvel absolutely took off. Would that have happened if Joss weren't at the helm? We'll never know for sure, but, let's be fair, he also did Marvel a BIG favor.

I think people tend to have a company mentality. "Oh, the company is doing me a big favor by employing me." Maybe, but the company wouldn't be the company without the people doing the company's work.

Still love this movie and still think it's better than the first,

And marvel wasn't pushing for the farmhouse sequence he was...it was why he got rid of the thor cave sequence . I love the farmhouse sequence though personally.

Pretty much with you - still love the movie (haven't decided yet whether I find it better than the first or not - I need additional viewings, oh the torture )... I also loved the farmhouse sequences as well.

My understanding is the threats have stemmed from at least a couple things. One has been the "Prima Nocta" line that Tony throws out with people lashing out at him because it's a 'rape joke'.

The other main 'reason' I've seen has to do with what Widow tells Banner

When she talks about how the final step of 'graduation' from the Red Room was to be sterilized so that they wouldn't even have the possibility of pregnancy becoming a distraction from the mission(s) and how the idea was to make them better killers/better assassins - then comments about being a monster.

*SOME* people seem to have misunderstood what she was saying and have taken it to be that "Woman who can't have children = monsters" which isn't what she was saying *at all*. She was saying becoming such a proficient assassin/being able to kill so easily is what's made her a monster.

That's at least some of it anyways... he's also been getting backlash still for his Jurassic World comments.

Yeah those people arent paying attention to the movie enough. Also if you feel a need to threaten someones life, you def need pro help. Most normal people dont react like that to things. Being passionate is fine, but going that far isnt.

Like just a month ago I never saw anything like that and now when I searched for Martin Freeman on Twitter, there's a whole bunch of them hating on him. Tumblr just discovers EVERYTHING like about a month ago and then moves on

The BTS stuff that Whedon is describing sounds like the typical stuff that goes on with big movies. Whedon has been known to exaggerate stuff and have a wild sense of humor in his statements to the press so the supposed rancor he had with Feige and Marvel producers is likely no different than what he had with TA1. Just seems that people are coloring Whedon's time and relationship with Marvel by how much or how little they cared for AoU and/or their fandom of Whedon.

I personally agree with this author. Natasha(and Joss, by extension) is not trying to say that women are monsters if they cant have children. Actually its Banner that insinuates that he is a monster, and Nat just shares some of her deepest kept moments with him, showing that she is not much different than he is. Also, there is the fact that its not Natasha's inability to have children that she is upset about, its her inability to choose her own path in life.
