The Avengers The Avengers Box-Office Prediction Thread - Part 2

It's 12:30PM where I'm at, and it's been dreary all day. In fact, when I woke up this morning, I thought it was maybe 6:00, but was shocked to see it was already 9AM, that's how dark it is here. And creepily still. Maybe we might get a tornado. Hope not.

Well, I know for a fact my first showing of The Avengers is sold out, and had been for a month (going to the Marathon:D) ,but, I am reading across the net that chicks really don't like the movie. I'm a chick, and don't understand how women can like Twilight, but not Avengers, when it's got ten times the sex appeal in it????? I just don't get it.

Have you met Tumblr? :o

I'm definitely expecting big things from Thor II --- the Avengers boost, plus Hemsworth's star definitely on the rise mean big things for the sequel. I'm still very concerned with Cap 2, though....CATFA definitely underperformed (for whatever excuses you choose to believe in), and Cap 2 is still 2 years away. I'm hoping movies like The Iceman will help Evans' star power, and that his turn in Avengers will make a lot of doubters go back and re-assess CATFA....otherwise, Cap 2 might be in trouble.
Thor II and Captain America 2 will definitely get a boost from the Avengers!

But I hope they don't give them a $200 million budget just to be safe.

Stick with $140 to $170 million range for the budget.
UK figures 3rd highest single day opener http://www.forbes.com/sites/markhug...ers-blows-the-doors-off-the-box-office-in-uk/

Biggest or second biggest opener of all time in:

Taiwan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, India (and it was going up against Tezz, which is massive for them), Philippines.

There's only 4 other countries its actually opened in - France, Germany, Romania and Norway - who are never good indicators of general trends. The problem is those countries already had Battleship out. So in France and Germany, these films will have definite legs after the weekend and longer.

We still haven't had China, Japan, or Russia. Once they start making records, Marvel will have this in the bag.

Good news!

Yeah I was just talking out of excitement with the whole "200 million dollar budget" thing. ;)

Seriously though I want a budget of atleast 180 million for THOR II, while Cap II's budget can be around 150-160 million.

I would be happy with a $180 million budget for THOR II and $160 million budget for CAPTAIN AMERICA 2.

Let's not put too much pressure on them.

It's ok, I doubt they're getting stressed out reading this thread. :yay:

Or maybe they are. Avengers Budget Meeting: Item 8.2: Discuss Big Thor's concerns/demands from SHH AVengers Box-Office Prediction Thread! :woot:

Yeah those would be nice noticeable increases, then if they over perform Marvel can go much bigger for their trilogies (namely Thor's).

Woah man, no concerns or demands here merely hopes and suggestions. :)

question

why did thor and captain america both get sequels but hulk did not?

was there a huge difference in box office?

surely that will be corrected now

Long story short...yes

Ok this point's already been brought up, try reading every post before bringing up a dead conversation.

I'm entitled to my opinion just like everyone else. I don't have to read thru every post on these boards to put forth my opinion, which is what you are doing when you post. Whatever man.

That's a good question. Is Hulk film rites only at universel? Or is it paramount? I'm not sure I think Marvel can use hulk but Maybe universal or paramount has the film rites. I don't honestly know a thing about this. I think however if Avengers does well maybe Marvel will put out another Hulk film.

My friend just told me he watched Avengers cam bootleg, liked it, and now doesn't feel the need to even go see the movie in theaters now...

I told him that he'd made me very

TBH, at this point, I'd say that a Hulk sequel would be a safer bet than Cap 2. But that's not the bet that Marvel wants to make.

Cap may have not been a breakout, but it certainly didn't underperform. It was sandwiched between Potter 7 and Cowboys and Aliens and Smurfs, and it performed pretty well under those circumstances.

You can call it an excuse if you want but the movie was profitable, and compared to Green Lantern or even Cowboys an Aliens which had alot more marketing behind them, it was a success.

Well, there has already been two previous Hulk movies, and while third one may be the charm, I can understand Marvel's reluctance to make another Hulk movie so soon. I don't think they'll rule it out for the future, though.

No Marvel owns the film rights. Universal may have distribution rights, but I think that they settled Hulk at the same time they settled all the other Marvel film distribution deals with Paramount.

I don't think Cap underperformed at all. It did well financially. It was a solid building block for the character and the Avengers will give him an even bigger boost moving forward. Now if the sequel performs to the same B.O. level as the First Avenger, then I would call that a disappointment.

True.

Are these numbers impressive? Are there comparative numbers from other major blockbusters?
It should clear 600M+ overseas as long as it is as big in China and Russia as it has been everywhere else

Which should put it well on the way to $1BN worldwide! :word:
