The Batman Reboot Casting Thread

Not really, but eliminating an actor from a role just because he starred in another film in the same genre is pretty silly. Ever since silent films actors have been taking similar roles. Lon Chaney, Sr. played the Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Phantom of the Oprea among literary hundred of other horror roles. Humphrey Bogart played two of the most iconic private detective characters ever in Sam Space and Philip Marlowe. Boris Karloff played Frankenstein and The Mummy. Lon Chaney, Jr. played all of the Universal Monsters. Etc, etc. Hell, you can pretty much count Sherlock Holmes as Downey's second comic book franchise anyways.

The way Hollywood worked back then is much different than how it works today.

That doesn't mean squat to anyone but fanboys. And when graced with his awesomeness as Batman, I'm sure they'd happily get over it. He remains my top pick, and he probably will be until someone else is picked or someone "official" publicly states that he's not an option. :woot:

I LOVE Christian Bale, but I truly believe Fassbender would be the best Batman ever.

You're living in dreamland. It means a lot to studios too. Fassbender nailed First Class, he was universally praised as the highlight of that film.

Fassbender, himself, confirmed they're working on the first sequel right now (SHH News page) and he's under contract to play this character for a triology.

He CAN'T be Batman with Warner Bros after this. To the public, he IS Magneto, and the sequels will just reinforce that.... just like with Jackman.

The principal remains the same though. If audiences can tell that it's only an actor 70 years ago, they still can today.

Robert Downey, Jr. went through the same stuff as Iron Man. To the public he IS Iron Man. He also IS Sherlock Holmes. For Warner Bros.

Not at all.

It's like Hemsworth doing Thor, and then Snow White and the Huntsmen. Bale doing Dark Knight, and then John Connor in Terminator Salvation.

But playing the lead in X-Men, and then playing Bruce/Batman? It would be a new precedent.

Playing two lead comicbook superheroes in two incredibly profitable franchises for different studios. I'll believe it when I see it.

Fassbender is also doing the Alien reboot franchise, Prometheus.

That you and probably 3 other people would give a **** about.

The fanboys are the ones who fancast him for everything with uninspired predictability..... despite him being Magneto.

I'm being realistic.

Magneto is the role that put him on the map with the general public. It was a superhero film he was critically acclaimed for, with sequels in the works. He won't be playing Batman.

I'm being realistic.

You really aren't. Now, I don't think he'll play Batman, or even want him for Batman. But the fact he was acclaimed for Magneto wouldn't hurt his chances or prevent him from being considered.

It's not the fact that he played Magneto that would prevent him. I would think it's because WB would want as high profile an actor for Batman. Also, I think there are much better fits for Batman than Fassbender.

i think it is realistic

there is zero examples of a guy being the lead in 1 super hero film

becoming a lead in another super hero film

Fassbender and McAvoy were dual leads. Fassbender, however, stood out more critically and his performance made the film.

He's pretty much on the verge of high profile now. Especially after "Shame" and "A Dangerous Method"

Deadpool starts shooting this year..

And guess what, Green Lantern was a flop and the GL franchise is dead. Ryan won't be coming back to play GL.

X-Men First Class and Batman are both incredibly popular and profitable properties.

Fassbender was the more central character though, as we learned more about his backstory and it was his story and conflict with Shaw that drove the story forward.

Chris Evans and who knows when the reboot is it could be after the X-Men sequels.

Oh, for ****'s sake.

it is just a waste of breathe at this time

lets move on fassbender is not gonna be batman end of story

magneto is far more interesting character anyways imo

and we likely wont even get a reboot till like 2018 or so lol

Batman > Magneto. That is all.

You think WB is gonna leave the Batman cash cow alone for 6 years...?

I think Fassbender would have been a better Batman than Bale. He's an incredible, dynamic actor.

But yes, he's Magneto now. Marvel won him.

Bale is a much better actor (Fassbender is still great though). He was just poorly directed in TDK, imo.

Chris Evans and who knows when the reboot is it could be after the X-Men sequels.

The Fantastic 4 franchise tanked, and the films were critical and fan disappointments.

Fassbender as the new Batman would be the equivalent of Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine AND Batman (instead of Bale) at the height of the X-men film franchise.

:funny:

And if TDKR is profitable, the reboot won't be any later than 2015/16, especially if they have Nolan and Emma Thomas as producers. Batman is the sole superhero cash cow for Warners.
