The Dark Knight The Batpod (Verdict after the trailer)

Do you like the Batpod (after the new trailer footage)?

  • Hell yes, it's badass.

  • It's alright, but nothing special.

  • I can deal with it, but it still sucks.

  • Nolan? wtf were you thinking?

(sorry it was the best image I could find without fart arsing about)

Looking at the wheel layout from the tumbler, there would have to be some really funky transformation for that to happen and if that is the case then I won't be too happy. The wheels aren't even the same width for a start.

I think it's a new vehicle made by Fox's old department.

Why does everybody think that the tumbler chase and the batpod chase are the same one. What if they are separate. He follows joker with the tumbler and it gets blown. Then he decides he needs another vehicle, something that could dodge the rockets easier and he builds the bod from the tumbler remains.

that sounds more likely, though i'm not too keen on the tumbler being blown to bits.

Well it was confirmed a long time ago that the Tumbler does indeed kick the bucket early on in the movie. It pisses me off too since I think the Tumbler is probably the best vehicle in any of the Batman movies ever made :csad:

I don't really care where the pod comes from. If it pops out the tumbler and they can make it work without being hokey, more power to em.

Looking at the 2 pics, the front wheel of the Batpod surely look smaller than the Tumbler. Just count how many squares in a row on both to see the difference. Again unless there is real proof, I'll just say the toy Batpod that come out of the Tumbler is just made for the toy & won't happend in the movie like many toys has.

could it be that soem guy found out that they would make a toy where the pod comes out of the tumbler and some third person leaked this info like it would be in the movie???

The front half of the tumbler opens up and the batpod rolls out w/ bats already sitting on it in "action/attack" position from driving the tumbler that way.

I just don't see that happening. It's not dynamic enough for an established Batman to take a broken Tumbler to Fox and say "make a makeshift vehicle out of this". I'm guessing it's a "surprise" during The Joker's rocket attack.

They filmed the Tumbler explosion and the batpod on the same strip of Lower Wacker

You saw the Tumbler go up?

Nah, Rory_Bat saw it back in July

Set Report from last night/this morning:

After going down to see the Swat action I decided to head back down to Wacker at around 11:00pm. And I am glad that I did. As I got there I perched myself on another bridge to watch the action. The Joker's 18-wheeler was back out again and Ledger was standing next to it. The crew had set up large mats next to the truck and were rehearsing a stunt scene. Basically (and Ledger was doing his own stunts for this) the truck would start up and rumble forward with a driver. The Joker would enter through the passenger's side from the median and push the driver out onto the mats. They did this for quite a while and then seemed to take an extended break, everyone moving down Wacker.
I walked down the road a bit to the next bridge and got a good view of what was going on. They had set up a ramp on a car and brought the tumbler down. I talked to one of the PA's (who I became very friendly with) and asked him what they were doing. He told me that the Tumbler was going to jump that car and there would be a gigantic explosion. And he wasn't kidding. During the set-up I and a few other people were treated to quite the sight. Ledger stuck around the set and was walking around talking to various crew people, right on the river walk without his hood. He had a skateboard which he played with for a bit. And then my night got amazing. Ledger hopped on the skateboard and zoomed right down towards the bridge I was standing on. It was the closest he had ever come to the crowd in full make-up. He stopped right in front of the bridge on the river walk, looked up at all of us and the zoomed off again.
At this pont the jump was ready. The crew (who were really cool with the handful of us that early in the morning) shouted up "You guys got a good view!?". We did. The PA walked over and told us that when "rolling" was yelled, we had to cover our ears because the explosion would be incredibly loud. I crouched down and had a great view. The camera cars raced by and the Tumbler jumped over the car. Just as it hit the top of the ramp, the afterburner on the back went off and there was a HUGE explosion that rained fire everywhere. It looked so great! Everyone on the bridge gave a hearty round of applause.
The crew went back to shooting more with the Joker's semi and an armored car. I left the set at about 5:30am to sleep.

Couldn't get any pics because A) the crew was psycho about it last night and B) Became very friendly with one crew member who was giving me great info and I didn't want to make them mad.

I seriously have a head time trying to think how the batpod comes out from the front of the tumber. There seriously is no room for it at all unless the tumbler was altered so that theres more space in the front. And I dont see that happening

I thought the toy had the Batpod coming out of the Tumbler's back end.

And yes, it would operate more as a "surprise" when the Joker explodes the Tumbler and thinks Batman's done for.

maybe the tumbler is actually an autobot, and it transforms one half of it into the batpod, and the other half into a robot. that's my theory.

I have a feeling that the tumbler gets blown, Wayne goes to Lucius Fox to see if there any new toys for him to buy and he does...

Hence the BAT-POD!!

I like the idea of Batman barely escaping in a malfunctioning, blown up tumbler and then making the pod from the scraps. But i guess its too much and the wheels arent the same size.
He probably gets it by Fox. Damn this guy! Sure its realistic to have a dude making your car, but all the detective and lab work should be done by Bruce. If Fox even dares to step down to the cave i'll put a smile on his face! Bruce is a loner. He doesnt have a crew down there to help him.

On another note, i remember in Year One (i think) Alfred in a supermarket buying all the existing after shaves for bruce to study. Then there is another page where young master bruce is at a morgue shooting bodies. A doctor asks him what he is doing. The response: "I shot the body with a __ gun. It made a ___mm bullet wound. I need to know them all."
FREAKING AWESOME!
