I still dont get how some of you keep living in the past and praising a lot Reeves when MoS is beautiful af, i wish Cavill had the chance to have 3 solo films, ugh, Reeves is my less fave Superman, i still cringe when i remember that scene were he goes bad/drunk
I think most of us are thinking about what works for general audiences, what the public wants from Superman. It's an ongoing debate and you can find lengthy YouTube videos from some dedicated Superman fans who are adamant about how wrong Cavill's Superman is and how right Reeve's Superman is.

Anyway, that's all in the past now. I think we should look ahead about what the next Superman should be, whether it's Cavill or not.

I for one want Superman to be more outward-looking. Kind of like how Wonder Woman is. Looking at the world around him rather than wondering Who is Superman? What does it mean to be Superman? I mean, just bloody get on with it.

To be fair im more of a Batman fan but im always excited when i see Bats stuff, im so easily pleased as long as they use my fave superheroe and i have 2 friends that love Bats too and we all have the same moto, the more the merrier, but with Supes is like they always need to be like Reeves or top that instead of enjoying him, i even got excited with Catwoman cuz it was Bats related and here as soon as someone mention Supergirl everyone have a stroke hahahaha

I wish i had the same amount of films/tv shows about Constantine and Flash as they do for Supers, yall need to lighten up and embrace wathever it comes to yall with Supes, imagine being a Martina ManHunter fan or a Green Lantern fan, there's always someone that have it worst

Superman fans are upset because Supergirl is taking all of Superman's enemies :funny:. Even tonight's episode of Supergirl features Lex. I really like Supergirl, though. I have always liked Helen Slater and aspects of that old Supergirl movie.

You have a point- it's a matter of perspective. I mean, poor Martian Manhunter fans (though he's in Supergirl too!)

I see what you mean about Reeve constantly brought up as the standard. Fans are very adamant about what Superman stands for. His portrayals are really put through the wringer in terms of what he means and what his persona and beliefs are. There seems to be little leeway as to how much he can stray from that. I personally don't think it is as complicated or as difficult as it seems. I mean, Tyler Hoechlin makes a few appearances and is praised yet Cavill is hotly debated. Maybe because Tyler Hoechlin's character is really quite simple and uncomplicated.

I just want Superman's world built up in the movies. There's always a stop/start quality to his movies. That's a big part of what frustrates fans. Maybe a Supergirl movie can be a big part of that buildup. I hope so.

They should get each superhero's own universe sorted out- whether Superman, Batman, The Flash...

Yep, i hope WB eventually will give it another chance and hopefully this time they will please the fans
The only thing i lowkey hate is that it has to be always Lex or Zod as villian alsnvlasnvlanvl i just want to see brainiac or bizarro for once tbh

If rumours are true then Brainiac will be Supergirl's villain in her movie but hopefully that is all connected to Superman's movie/s too.

Bizarro would be wild.

Garcia needs to get her **** together and somehow get something for Cavill, idc if he isnt the main character as long as he stay as Superman, plus it would be cool if both fight against Brianiac

I enjoy the Reeves films but I have some substantial problems with them, even if you exclude III and IV.
I'm desperately clinging to the last thread of the possibility of Cavill returning.
I wouldn't complain if Luthor was the main villain again, he's Superman greatest foe and there are plenty of stories that can be told with him.
Though it would be nice to see someone new.

Lex should always be a presence whether he's the main villain or not. He should be in the thick of things in Metropolis. The city really should have a life of its own in the movies. In Batman's universe, the villains are a constant presence in Gotham. They should do the same with Superman. Not just the villains but the Metropolis Police, the Science Police, Suicide Slum etc.

Donner showed what a hero is. The rest of these fools, I don't know what they were thinking. Take your faux realism and shove it.

A hero is a guy who decides that getting the girl is more important than saving the world? But, seriously, what is a hero, according to Donner?

I've said before, my problem isn't a different take. It's that the "realistic" take was so lame. I was taken out of the movie with every juvenile attempt to make it all grow'd up. Metaphor on top of metaphor, convoluted plot, angsty hero.

I saw Superman: The Movie when I was 10 years old. Walked out of the theater believing a man could fly.

Fast forward to 2013, I walked out of the theater believing a man could cry.

What metaphors and what parts of the plot were convoluted in MoS? It was a pretty straightforward narrative if you ask me. The only metaphor I can recall was one element of Christian imagery. And my lasting memory of Clark in the film was him smiling like a goofball at Lois Lane his first day as a stringer for the DP.

Cavills Superman had a real drive to help others. Before he knew where he came from he decided he would use his powers to protect people.
He repeatedly gave up the opportunity to have a normal life because he saw helping others as more important.
Reeves waited until after being instructed by Jor-El before he started his heroics, and then stopped helping people so that he could have a normal life.
For me the big difference between the two is that Cavill is more selfless.

I know some of you take this stuff really seriously. I am just stating my impressions after watching the movies; I will leave the endless debates to you all.

STM had me looking forward to the next movie, Snyder's version did not. Period. If I am the only person who thought the symbolism was over the top, and that Superman looked pained to help people, then so be it. OTOH, I liked Watchmen. But apparently it's because I "didn't get" the source material. Guess I am just too dumb to understand comic book movies. Haha

Well, I gotta go to work. Have a great day everybody!

My focus is on moving forward. I'd like to see a different tone and approach for the next interpretation. I also prefer a more earthbound story than a pure cosmic adventure.

I truly am not interested in changing your mind or your preferences. I am just genuinely curious what symbolism in MoS you're referring to and what examples you could share of Clark saving people with a pained expression.

I'd be interested in something cosmic, apart from a deleted scene we've never seen Superman leave the Earth.
Not that I would have a problem with keeping him on Earth, it's just that alien worlds are something Superman has never explored on film.

Maybe I've just been watching too much Super-Friends lately.

I'm open to anything, including a cosmic adventure off earth. But my initial preference right now is Earthbound. It usually allows for a more intimidate story. I'm someone who likes the DP aspect and Clark's supporting cast. We didn't get a lot of that, especially in the last few appearances.

Or maybe half the movie set on earth and half off-world. Lots of possibilities.

But hey, if we get another movie I'm up for anything.

Yes I've been switching between something more Earth-bound and something more cosmic. But lately I've been thinking about how they've got to really establish Metropolis and its characters first and then move to something more cosmic. Superman has so many possibilities with sci-fi and space that I'd like to see but they should build up to that. Explore Metropolis first and then explore more and more sci-fi.

That's how I generally lean too. Build up the characters, the relationships. Metropolis. The supporting cast. Establish that first. It allows for a greater connection between the audience and Superman. Then expand to more sci-fi, cosmic. that's my preference as of now.

I've never been particularly keen on Metropolis, I've always saw Superman as more of a global hero rather than focused on a single city like Batman.

It's cool how we all like different aspects of the Superman mythology. I always loved the Metropolis element. In fact, when it comes to Krypton and other worlds I always felt less is more while some others would love to see an entire film with Krypton or set in outer space. It's actually a strength of this character that there are so many viable elements to draw from.

I agree that less is more with Krypton. I feel like that's been overdone in a lot of the movies while other aspects of Superman's mythos have barely been touched upon. It feels like we keep getting bigger backstories for Krypton and new ways for Kryptonian technology to come to earth, while other aspects that fans have been craving for DECADES still haven't found their way to the screen. Brainiac? Meh, let's just use Zod again, only this time we'll make him actually kill Jor-El! To be clear, I liked most of the Krypton stuff on MoS but as good as it was, I still couldn't help but feel like it was just what we'd seen before, only with more action. And I want new stuff. I want to see Braniac's ship and his bottle cities. I want to see Lex build Metallo (even though, yes, he would use Kryptonite) instead of unleash a Kryptonian beast or grow a Kryptonian island in the Atlantic. It seems like filmakers feel like Superman's story begins and ends with his origins.

Richard Madden or Armie Hammer should be the new Superman
