Mario F Robles pushing that old story from last year that the Xmen: First Class writer Zack Stentz and Chris McQuarrie had a twitter conversation about doing a draft of All Star Superman.
Mario got Zack on his podcast recently and asked who he'd cast if he got to do All Star - his choice was Brendan Fraser!!
This obviously had next to zero chance of getting off the grounds in the first place, but with McQuarrie now committing to two more MI's, the chances have decreased are less than zero!

Unless they changed the ending, I don’t really see the point of doing an adaptation of that story.

Also a big no to Fraser as Superman.

As much as I love All-Star Superman, I don't want an adaptation of it or any other comic.

I want new stories, take aspects and inspiration from comics but don't just give us things we've already seen.

You need an original commercially appealing tale to broaden the character's popularity and start a new trilogy. Even if you're doing an elseworld's one shot let it be original. I'm against any straight adaption.

If the Supergirl movie does go through first they will likely show the origin of Krypton exploding. That means it is highly likely they could also include infant Superman's departure in this. This gives a set up for Superman, even if they don't include him in the first Supergirl movie. Superman should never be second fiddle but it is a chance for a reboot and new actor and direction at some point, with their two stories closely tied together.

I always liked the idea where they started off and treated clark in the office and superman as two different people, like there was no focus on the transition or the two intwined, what i mean by that, let's say if you had never heard of the character before, you wouldn't have picked up on them being the same person. So when Clark was on screen, he was his own character, when we saw superman, sure, he may be changing from a suit, but it wasn't clear who he was - if that makes sense. Clark on the farm, sure, with his parents talking, but i really want the pretence to be kept, in the office, just to give it that gravitas. Sure, have him see a news report of a derailing train or we see him tweaking out and make his excuse to leave etc but never see it from his perspective that he is superman.

Something like that could be interesting, if we weren't getting his point of view. Say for example we follow Lois, we don't get anything of Clark until she meets him in the office, don't see Superman until his first public appearance.
The keen eyed might spot Clark slinking away as a report comes in, but the camera never focuses on him or follows him.

Abrams signed a huge deal with WB, could see him doing Superman. That property needs his kind of uplifting, crowd-pleasing blockbuster touch - even if I wasn't a huge fan of his last two films. Get a great writer on board and he'd be a great fit, especially in regards to the visual pastiche.

Not sure if this was posted already somewhere, or if this site is even reputable, but it's reporting Cavill is out: WB Developing New Superman Movie Without Henry Cavill

That site is not reputable. We were talking about "We Got This Covered" in the DC Films section, how they just make up headlines based on current internet chatter. Nothing from a real source. No offence meant but I won't click on anymore links from them.

I really liked Abrams first "Star Trek" movie (thought the second one felt rehashed and forced). "Force Awakens" was ok, a nice feel, but too light. Abrams makes big exciting movies. It would be good news if he got involved, but yeah he needs a good co-writer for the depth and this time (unlike Flyby) he needs to stay with the mythos. :oldrazz:

I'm guessing they got that particular headline from Boss Logic's latest artwork. Just peruse Twitter every day and you too can find just as many "scoops" as them.

Well, it was pretty much a gimme that cavill would be out.
I mean BvS was a failure or at the most a break even film.
JL was, well.......

No one should be surprised.
I still think Cavill in the role with a director like Abrams, Jackson, or Howard would have been gold.

A shame.

I think they should do something different with superman. Instead of telling a modern day telling of the story, have it set in the 1950's.

Before the internet, cell phones etc. Back when people thought anything was possible.

It would be nice to see a Golden Age kind of Superman, set in the past. I think they could even do an animated movie in the Fleischer Studios style.

On the other hand, I do want to finally see Superman move up to be more futuristic, really go hi-tech & modern sci-fi.

I just watched Abrams Star Trek (2009) again and Superman really could do with a treatment like that. Big space adventure, sci-fi, very crowd-pleasing... Abrams could provide that. He may not be the most shocking choice, but it could provide a solid foundation for a new Superman. With Star Trek and Star Wars, Abrams could provide that. Even if he doesn't direct, the involvement of his Bad Robot production company could be very good for Superman.

Even during the movie, the villain Nero (Eric Bana) would destroy planets with a huge drill. It reminded me of Brainiac.

I mentioned in another thread I'd like to see a Superman movie set in 1938 but mixed with modern technology. The Fleischer cartoons don't feel like an outdated world. It allows you to easily depict certain elements of the Superman mythos but you keep it fresh and futuristic with Kryptonian technology interspersed throughout the film.

Not gonna lie, seeing a Metropolis with technology either reverse-engineered from Kal-El's rocket or the result of B13 tech would be pretty sweet. I'd love to see stuff like this on the big screen...

Might be on to something there. Hard to tell a story with an inspiring hero in a culture where no one wants to be inspired.

Fwiw, there was some discussion on the Supergirl movie by movie bloggers (thanks Greenlite for pointing this out.):

So they're looking for a Supergirl director and it will be up to them whether the movie takes shape with Superman or not.

I am glad at least that there is a glimmer of hope that WB are open to including Superman, not shutting him out completely (as per initial reports.)

Well it is a way to re-introduce Superman without having to have its own film right away. Smart...if true.

I’d love for Superman to be in it.

My only concern - and it’s a very small one, because there’s no way they won’t talk about spinning him off into his own series of films if people like him - is that they might not get what I’d consider an ideal candidate for the part if he’s just going to be a supporting character. It’s one thing to be a supporting character; it’s quite another to be the lead.

I did think about that. Say they cast Superman for the Supergirl movie and a director comes along (like JJ Abrams ;)) to make the Superman movie and doesn't like the Superman already cast. Although they could cast someone great like they did with Gal's WW. But casting Superman is a big deal so you would expect them to find the absolute best candidate they could.

I would assume that if they cast someone as Kal it would be with the understanding that they would have the opportunity to play the role beyond the film. Most actors and agents would get the spinoff vibes almost immediately and would relish the small role because it would be a primer for their solo film later on.

Christopher McQuarrie Comments on His Superman Movie Pitch – Superman Homepage:

"Christopher McQuarrie Comments on His Superman Movie Pitch

Director Christopher McQuarrie has revealed that he and Henry Cavill developed an idea for a Superman movie sequel while filming “Mission Impossible – Fallout” together.

McQuarrie took to Twitter to explain that the original idea, which was pitched to Warner Bros., was ultimately passed on.

“The studios have never cared for my original ideas,” he explained. “They prefer that I fix their broken ones.”

The pitch tied in with another idea McQuarrie had for a Green Lantern film, stating it was too complicated to explain on Social Media.

“Too complicated to explain. It tied into the Superman movie that Cavill and I were proposing. No takers.”

While Warner Bros. didn’t directly pass on the ideas, McQuarrie explains they just never took up the ideas and moved forward with them.

“They never said no. They just never moved on it. This was just before Fallout was released. And no, I would not reconsider. There’s too many other things I want to do.”"

Just watched the 3 hour version of Superman the Movie. Seriously, if they could come anywhere close to capturing that magic again, it would make a fortune.
