The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

Another reason I don't think we don't need a recast is that Cavill is already young enough to carry a franchise. Jason Momoa is 40 and is doing it with Aquaman.

Cavill is two years younger than him and looks great. I really think we could get a proper trilogy from him as an iconic version of Superman. I don't think we need to see a young 26 year old version of Superman and I don't know what that has to offer as opposed to what they can easily do with Cavill himself right now. You can still do an upbeat version with him.

Is Jason momoa 40! Geez I didn’t know. Atlanteans age very well

I wonder how Snyder Cut JL will tie into Man of Steel going forward in this reformed, interconnected shared universe since Snyder Cut breathes new life into this shared universe of the DCEU? Or what the future ramifications will be for Superman or his own universe (Lois, Martha, Perry, the Daily Planet, Kara/Supergirl in the DCEU?)

nothing except re-establish him as a more prominent character moving forward.

We'll see. It's premature to make predictions because while the Snydercut is obviously big news people seem to be forgetting the intensely negative reception Snyder's DCEU films got. Whether you love him or not, Snyder is not for everyone and up to five/six hours of pure, unadulterated Zack doesn't sound like something likely to strongly connect with the mainstream.

I'm super curious what the reaction will be if the Snydercut comes out and gets critically eviscerated.

I still think the Man of Steel universe doesn't move forward in solo films, only here in the Snyder Cut Justice League. I think the reports about Cavill in talks with WB are true, but I suspect that's tied to actual filming for JL and limited appearances in Shazam 2 or Black Adam (Rock's all but confirmed this). I don't think Amy Adams will be tagging along for those, but stranger things have happened...

If you ask me, the bigger implications of releasing the Snyder Cut are that other characters, more specifically Wonder Woman and Aquaman, are now again being associated to this universe constructed by Zack Snyder. WW84 can be as tonally different as it wants, but audiences will be reaffirmed that Gal Gadot's Batman is Ben Affleck when the Snyder Cut comes out on HBOMax. Which is fine by me.

This seems that new versions of the characters can be introduced alongside Robert Pattison, unless the rumors are true that the new Batman movies are period piece prequels. A real indicator will be what happens with the Flash casting if that movies actually does move forward

People need to stop it with the clickbait BS, these articles are all citing one source “Heroic Hollywood” who did a contradictory report just weeks before. These articles keep ignoring several factors such as the DC Slate even full up until the end of 2022 with no movies afterwards yet announced and Henry’s schedule been so busy. It’s no shock they’ve decided to drop their article on the 7 year anniversary of MOS too. It’s all designed to get clicks.

This studio doesn't deserve to own the character.

Given all the Superman content we have and are getting I find this statement ridiculous. The movies are not the only thing.

But you have to admit it would be nice to get another decent Superman movie after 40 years.

I don't think it'll affect much if at all tbh. The current "canon" is thin at best so safe to say that whatever happens in the SC won't have any bearings on Superman going forward. Superman wearing the blue suit in Shazam is a dead giveaway

Basically the news is what it has always been, Cavill is being contracted to be second banana in others movies, to advance the stories of other characters, most likely because The Rocks agent is trying to get that for him. Same news, different day

No, Cavill schedule is busy for the next 2 years and they haven’t announced any DC Films from 2023. The cameos are what he can fit into his schedule and what WB can fit in given their slate is full.

I think it's a combination of scheduling and WB needed to be pushed. It's always been their nature to be hesitant with Superman on the big screen. The last two times it took pitches from Singer and Nolan to push them over the finish line.

Screenwriter Gary Whitta responded to the article by saying it would be successful if he wrote it. He then said, "Superman isn't boring. The people who say Superman is boring are."

Duncan Jones responded to the article by suggesting Into the Spider-Verse co-director Peter Ramsey. Ramsey actually did the storyboards for Flyby and disagreed with an article back in November about struggling to make Superman relevant.

There are writers and directors who wish to tackle Superman.

With the news of Keaton returning as Batman in Flashpoint and that film opening the door for the multiverse combined with the Cavill news of him not getting solo, but appearing in other character films, I think there is a possibility that the next Superman solo flick may be "reboot".

I’ll be really happy to get a new Superman solo, whether it’s Cavill or a new actor.

I think so too. A reboot without the origin hopefully with Corenswet.
That's the dream!

The Keaton thing reaffirms to me, if anything, that Cavill is coming back in spin offs, while at the same time ,they may still want rebooted Solo Superman .

I think they're gonna end up going with the cake and eat it too option.

Cavill appears in Flashpoint and spin offs, and another actor appears in a solo rebooted Superman continuity not too long after .

I don't think they'll use Flashpoint to merge everything into one universe, which was the objective a few years ago.

I think they'll use it to define for the film going audience, much like the CW tv audience, that there are multiple worlds and multiple iterations of these characters that you will see.

I.e. that you can have a Phoenix Joker series, Pattison Batman, Keaton Batman, Cavill team up film , and a Superman reboot unconnected to all of them .

They can have on Superman in the Snyder verse while having a "Classic Superman" being part of a JJ Abrams reboot.

Crisis on CW already set the precedent on TV and I suspect Flashpoint will set the precedent on film.

I'm totally down with that possibility if it happens.

I don't wish to see an origin story either, I would wish for an opening similar to "UP", where the original story is told in the opening credits(maybe with animation ala a comic book), then starting from there when the story opens. Though I wouldn't mind a first day on the job Clark Kent/Superman story with Corenswet.

To me this just reaffirms that Cavill isn't coming back and they want to start over.

WB obviously wants to carry on with Aquaman and WW, but clearly want to move on from the rest of their previous DCEU characters from the Snyder films. This move allows them to do that and will establish the reason why there are so many different incarnations of the DC heroes.

I still question whether Miller will be a part of this or if he'll be replaced.

Selfishly I'd like to see Routh return, but we that is wishful thinking. Hopefully Corenswet lands the role whenever he is rebooted.

The multiverse makes it less likely for Cavill to lead a standalone. As the studio is willing to commit to multiple actors and multiple versions at the same time.

I don’t think Michael Keaton reprising his role as Batman means anything for Cavill. They were going to embrace the multiverse anyway, no Superman film will be made for release prior to 2023 regardless.

We knew there would be tv versions and movies versions simultaneously but the Keaton decision shows they're also open to having two versions of the character on the big screen simultaneously. So even if Cavill returns for guest appearances, a different actor can lead the solos. It feels more possible now that they're embracing the multiverse beyond the CW shows.
