I hope people are not expecting Superman to make a billion, because it won't, but it doesn't have to.
it can make 600 to 700 million, have really good audience and critic scores, and it will be considered a success and ensure more films are made.
I think the ceiling, even if it's great, is probably 800 million.

The flipside on that is, if it only makes 450 mill(ish) has awful audience and critic scores, then the DCU is pretty much doa.

Right or wrong, The DCU because of the snyderverse, is gonna have to earn the people's trust back. It sucks, but that's just the way it is.

Agreed.

I think Superman has a ceiling , and hopefully, WB can accept that .

But the film has got to be embraced by audiences and have some good critic scores .

They can't have another mixed to negative response from audiences and critics, yet again .

That said , I'm actually not too concerned about Superman , and I have a feeling things will turn out alright for it.

It's been decades since a Superman film has been praised across the board with audiences and critics, but , I have a feeling the film will go over well.

Who knows what the future holds, but at this moment, I think Superman will get a good reception.

That's one of the reasons I really don't comment on alot of the developments with this project on these boards.

As a Marvel and Spiderman fan, things look much more creatively shaky and wobbly with The MCU over the next several years.

So , as a DC and Marvel , I'm more concerned about Marvel's creative output and reception than I am Gunn's DC Gods And Monsters slate.
But that's just me as a fan of both. Other fans will differ.

The days of 7-8 billion-dollar hits per year are still a ways behind us. No one would be doing Gunn and co. any favors by expecting them to hit that mark right out the gate.

Honestly whenever I think about the filming day for this scene (which I am SO hyped to see), I immediately think about how they filmed mirror scenes of this - one where he’s embraced by the public and one where they’re clearly scared of him - and I go back to wondering if it’s a “fall from grace” situation or…You Know What. :funny:

What is it like to see JLI continue to influence other media now? James Gunn seems to be a massive fan of your work.

Yeah! Me and a bunch of other writers and artists were invited to the set of Superman for a day in May. They showed us everything. They showed us the pre-production stuff. They showed us some footage. I got to walk around the Fortress of Solitude set and watch them shoot a scene. There's definitely a JLI sort of influence there.

It’s so difficult to predict the box office for Superman. I mean it is the middle of July right after the release of the new Jurassic movie and there is a possibility that Marvel will move Fantastic 4. So you are talking about if the movie is a hit with fans a long box office run similar to Deadpool and Wolverine is possible. Listen Barbie made a billion and Joker made a billion for WB with a rated R rating. I wouldn’t be shocked if Superman completely bombs or is the top movie of the year. It’s going to be marketed like a Marvel property so WB must really think this movie has something. People are sucking up the merchandise already. If Superman is just ok it will bomb. It almost has to be a great movie like the Batman was to be successful. It has one big advantage over The Batman is that it appears to be action packed and kid friendly.

Fans are so damn nasty man lol

All these people are doing is saying something looks fun and good and they acting like there's no way they can just mean it? It has to be a lie or they're getting paid to do it?
Remember how they said Joker 2 was unnecessary and it wouldn't make as much money as the first one? Oh wait. :o
