The fact that he’s using actual drone footage as background plates for all the shots of Superman flying because he was inspired by Top Gun: Maverick has me so excited, because all of the flight sequences in that film were fantastic. Imagining that applied to a Superman film has me so hyped.
That looks so much worse and is definitely edited. :funny:
It looks like somebody used AI to make the image sharper, but ended up making it look like a wax figure.

We're also still 6 months out from release. That's half a year and the film won't be locked probably up until a week before release to send to theaters, so everything will tighten up I'm sure. Still ways to go. I'm just glad marketing is about to kickoff. Fanbases can be split.. whatever at this point..but Superman has got everyone talking, and that's a plus.

It's tracking horribly. I mean it hasn't even sold a single ticket. :o

Just wanted thoughts on this quick edit I did to see if this feels less awkward looking or not. I personally had no problem with the original shot and love it, but based on thr complaints I heard, I went and tried to fix the eyes looking in different directions and tried to add more details to David's face and got rid of some of the highlights that brightens the picture. Maybe works, maybe not. Who knows. I'm not great at this 😕

The eye is fixed. 😱

I cannot believe something so trivial has become such a topic of discussion and complaints.

And I thought the Superman Returns discussion board days were bad.
Yeah I don't get it either. I've watched that TV spot 100 times over and have no issues with that flying shot at all. It's everything I've ever asked for from flying shots with Superman. It's what I've felt has been missing for a long time. It all felt like superman to me.

Weird thing to me regarding this whole matter from the first time this movie was announced, is I've never seen this much supposed love and defence for henry cavill before. People are acting like he's so irreplaceable, yet I didn't see a shred of this love for him at all when he actually was playing the character. As a matter of fact when Man Of Steel and BVS was in its prime, people really didn't seem to care less about Cavills Superman from what I remember, and I remember being kinda annoyed by it. Now it's all Henry Cavill this and if it's not Henry it's not Superman. It's become tiresome that I can't enjoy this build up to a new Superman because no one is being honest about it. They're trashing every little thing about it, no matter how small and it's draining.

Cavill was an extremely hot topic since 2018 when the Hollywood Reporter announced that he was out as Superman. From there, the phenomenon of "is he out as Superman or not" was built up over the upcoming years. There was virtually a new report every single day on the matter and the fans of his rallied. He trended in large amounts daily and it got Seven Bucks Production to fight pretty hard in his corner. It prompted Boss Logic to even get involved and have connections to the subject. All we heard for years even on these boards was the uncertainty of Cavill and the character. It was virtually nonstop up until the reboot and even now. The DCU and DCEU will always be connected to each other from the Studios flub of announcements in 2022, thus, the extreme division.

😅 yeah it's just the eyes that look less wonky.

This is perfection to me. If I'd seen that I'd have seen no issue.

The funny thing is, not only is focused level nit picking inevitable and happens every single time there's a tiny bit of new footage... but there's also always a bunch of comments exactly like this, criticising the nit picking 😅

Fan communities have picked WAY more trivial stuff than this. Like Henry's hair line in that first bank vault shot. I actually think the first clip of this movie's style of flight visuals is a fairly legitimate thing to comment on, whether you love it, aren't quite sure about it, or loved most of it but just thought the eyes were a bit off.

This is pretty much spot on. I think everything has looked great so far and the flying in the "Icon" TV spot is good and dynamic. The problem for sure is the perspective of David's eyes and how it makes him basically look like a hallow robot or Artificial Intelligence. That's the only problem, the eyes. It's just too noticeable for it not to blow up in an already nitpicky landscape of brutal nerd-rage.

WB/DC is probably over the moon with this. 6 months away and all anyone is talking about is a 30 second television spot. Can you imagine if Superman was two weeks away and all everyone was talking about was a Marvel movie 6 months away.

The reality is the negative opinions are not going to stop. I saw plenty with the first trailer. Jerry Jones said it best if your talking about the Cowboys that is all that matters. Believe me the general audience didn’t rewind the shot of Superman flying 10 times in slow motion frame by frame.

You will never be able to convince me otherwise, but I believe that a certain segment of the nerd audience only liked Cavill for his good looks. His portrayal as the character certainly wasn't anything to write home about.

The general audience has proven doesn't care one way or the other about him in the role. The same was true for the GA's feelings on Routh.

I mean...it always starts with the looks. Get someone unconventionally attractive as Superman....could be the greatest actor but if he doesnt look the role....there's going to be pushback.

To be clear, my thinking something is off with the eyes is not a criticism of David's look or of David himself in any way. Its a product of the way it was filmed, and also potentially because it was rushed through to the finish? I have a hard time believing it couldn't have been corrected in post, though I'm happy to be proven wrong if someone knows these things better than me.

Whether it bothers you or not, it was evidently noticeable enough for half the internet to pick up on 🤷‍♀️

This would be true except people still lament not seeing Nic Cage as Superman and he doesnt look, act, sound or even hints at being anywhere close to Superman.

The eye thing or facial expression doesn't bother me at all. It's a still shot from a fast moving scene, pause any film scene with an action shot and you're going to see some awkward expressions. I do like the way the flying is portrayed and the colours in the suit jumping out.

However, your pics above just confirm to me again that I wish Gunn hadn't gone for that fisheye style lens similar to what he used for Adam Warlock. Corenswet is a big guy, bigger and wider than Tyler Hoechlin, but in the pics above Hoechlin looks broader and more imposing in shot. That lens style just skewers any perception of breadth on screen.

They lamet because curiosity. They see the photos and want to see what its about. Cast him fresh and you know....people would go on a bender about his looks

That's because the point likely isn't to make Superman seem imposing in this shot, but to create a kinetic sense of speed and flight.

That's why comparisons to shots from other movies and series don't really make sense. Besides the flight, each may have a different intention from a filmmaking and storytelling point of view.

Not just that but no offence to Tyler but he was in some super thick padding to make him look bigger. Don't get me wrong, tyler was shredded, but shredded and big are two different things. Tyler is not a big dude in terms of mass. All the suits he wore from season 1 to 4 all made him look like a typical cosplayer with over stuffed muscle padding. Give david **** all people want, but he looked as big outside of the suit as he did in it. Very little padding, atleast not noticeable.

It doesn't have to be a contest.

Well said. I'm a few days behind it seems as I only saw the new shots about 30 minutes ago, even though the shot is fast moving it was something I noticed, my first initial thought was that his face was some form of CGI however I've been reading a few pages back & it seems Gunn has already confirmed that it wasn't & it's due to the lens used to film the shot.

I wouldn't say it bothered me, but it just looked a little odd. There's no reason for people to get overly defensive about it & likewise there's no need to be up in arms about it either.

I honestly think they're crapping themselves and aren't over the moon with anything just because this is so huge and how there is no telling with tracking as of yet. They'll be on pins and needles until we have any concrete numbers within release..and that's the way it should be. It's okay to paint Superman in a high pressure-type light. It's nerve-wracking, to be frank. Fans better not set themselves up thinking this is going to be a slam dunk just because of Gunn's Guardian films. Superman has a lot to prove. At this stage, we can only hope it lives up or say hello to the BatmanDCU.

I swear, Snydercultists and MAGA share so much of the same kind of religious, zealous, fervent, obsessive, blind, ignorant and terrifying devotion and praise for each of their respective leaders and “religions”, if each were a person and you placed both of them in the same room together, they’d be practically indistinguishable from each other.

Both zealously proclaim their leader as a “chosen one“ with the one true “scripture“ that is always right and never wrong, and rain venomous ire, brigading and assaults upon the “heathens” and “sinners” online who dare question or criticize anything regarding their sacred “religion“, its “tenets” and their “church”, to a fault, willfully contradicting themselves and completely rejecting reality, despite the overwhelming evidence in front of their very eyes. Their way is the only way, and everything else is heresy, and they will do anything to maintain it until their leader one day returns. Thus sayeth the Lord. Amen.

The only difference is one is much bigger and sadly growing more popular, and the other is smaller and slowly diminishing. And I’m really thankful that we don’t live in a world where the latter has the same kind of following as the former. Unfortunately, we live with and can’t erase the former.
