The Dark Knight Rises The Dark knight Rises Novelization

I'm almost done with it. Just passed the part where Bruce escapes from the pit. Overall, it pretty much follows the film word for word. But during the stadium scene, the author calls the dead referee "the umpire".
No need for a face palm, the word umpire is actually appropriate. People usually associate the word with baseball, but referee and umpire are actually interchangeable; they are synonyms.

um·pire

1. a person selected to rule on the plays in a game.

2. one selected to settle disputes about the application of settled rules or usages; a person agreed on by disputing parties to arbitrate their differences.

um·pire

noun \ˈəm-ˌpī(-ə)r\

2: an official in a sport who rules on plays

Synonyms
1. referee, arbiter, arbitrator. 2. See judge.

I finished the novel a few days ago, and for those wondering how Bruce was able to still be physically active after the Bane fight and losing his knee brace, there are explanations in the novel.

1) While recovering in the prison, he forces himself to work through the pain of both his back and his knee to re-build himself.

2) Upon returning to Gotham, Fox gave him another knee brace.

I got the novel yesterday. Will start it tonight!

I was hoping we would get more insight as to what Selina does to keep Gilly drugged for so long. But nope, the book just skips that part like the movie does.

That's kind of depressing to know that the movie follows the script closely. That essentially means Nolan and his brother were ultimately lazy when writing this story. There are SO many plot holes, lack of character development, etc etc that I'm baffled. I thought some of the things in the film were just for the sake of not having enough time to tell a complete thought.

Now to find out that the script really wasn't cohesive from the start is really jarring. My friend said the initial run time for Rises was a little over three hours. Being a Nolan film, I didn't doubt it.

I was looking to pick up the book because I was hoping there might be more insight into the story's plot. Sucks to find out there isn't much there.

The book has more insight to what the characters are thinking but that's about it. It's pretty close to the finished movie like what others said. Same with the shooting script.
