The more I think about it, the more I can see how "rises" makes sense. It's still similar to BATMAN BEGINS, and it's still generic, but I would probably have preferred BATMAN RISES to THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. It has the same number of letters as BATMAN BEGINS, flows better in the context of trilogy titles, and would indeed feel like the franchise was coming full circle. That, and it's not the exact same title as the previous movie with one more word added.
BATMAN BEGINS
THE DARK KNIGHT
BATMAN RISES
"Batman Rises" also just scans better and sounds snappier, to me.
"Batman" has two short vowels, "The Dark Knight" has three elongated vowels. "Rises" adds another two, so I prefer "Batman Rises".
Looks better as text, too, I feel.

Call me over-analytical, but I think they went with The Dark Knight Rises as a play on words.
The Dark Knight Rises = The Dark Night Rises
Goes back to Dent's speech about the night being darkest just before the dawn, and that the dawn was coming.
TDK = The blackest before dawn.
TDKR = The coming dawn (the night rising).
That, and the story being about Batman's redemption (or rise).
Thats true, to be fair I never say full names anyway. One for Batman is good enough.Does anyone really bother about saying the full title for any film when buying tickets? I don't do it. "One for Batman please". Any person behind the counter who doesn't know what you're referring to is an idiot.

I really didn't like the title "Dark Knight Rises" at first, but it's kind of growing on me; what I also like about the title is that Nolan's films will be more established as the "Dark Knight" films, setting them clearly aside from the previous "Batman" films . . .
"One ticket to The Dark Knight Rises please"....Yeah I'm not going to be saying that.
I do like the sound of Batman Rises more than the title that we got, eventhough I'm not in love with it either but there is no doubt that it is better.
Hahahahaha, people are reahearsing how they're going to ask for their tickets now? Wow.
Yup. I was practicing in front of a mirror all night.
