The Defenders The Defenders Discussion Thread (NO SPOILER TAGS NECESSARY!)

Finished today I liked whenever the team was together. I feel like the side characters were a little too involved at times. Maybe now that The Hand story is possibly done of reduced they can do a better overall story.

Elektra survived, I don't think Matt could have survived that alone. They made Elektra Black Sky so something had to go into that name besides a rebirth. Gao won't be dead either but they left it open probably because of the actresses age. Gao wouldn't make another appearance until IF2 or DD3.

YES YES YES. This, IMO, is EXACTLY what Danny should be like. Like Goku: Carefree, light-hearted, childishly naive but also a total badass who loves a good fight. This is how I would have written him. That is Iron Fist, that is the Iron Fist we needed. I could feel the writers trying to salvage the character but I think the damage is done, they have a different vision for this Danny Rand and Finn Jones just isn't right for this more angsty, brooding version. If we could get Danny like he was in the Restaurant episode ALL the time, I would have no complaints.

The damage isn't fully done yet. Those jabronis can still right the ship

Watching epi 3 now. I'm beginning to think that MCU should forget about movies & move EVERYTHING to NF;HBO;AMC;Freeform(?). This how it should be done!! They can still pour $$ into it.

:bnd: :shr: :wowe: :tmm:
Huh that doesn't make sense? The MCU would be nothing without the movies which have yet to put out a terrible movie. I may not care for 2-3 of the movies but they are watchable. AoS, Agent Carter, and the Inhuman show do nothing to help the MCU overall. The Netflix shows are solid but I don't watch them more than once.

Goku rarely if ever whines and complains. Danny has done that about a 100 times so he will need a total revamp to even be anything like Goku.

Well, maybe if the writers drop Danny's head on a rock too...

Everybody calls Iron Fist an idiot. Let's go with that. I don't know what Iron Fist is like in the comics, but let's turn Finn into the Goku of the show. It's the only way Finn works.

Perfect example

i guess i'm the only one who don't get that example.
it's ironic considering i'm the only Japanese here lol

About the Hand's master plan being lame? The ability to live forever seems like a legit plan to me.

Yeah, they'd clearly already lived for centuries (Alexandra was constantly name-dropping people long dead, for instance, or that she'd eaten a dish like that in Constantinople, or whatever), resurrecting as necessary with 'the substance,' and now they were out.

Alexandra using the last of it on Elektra was interesting because it *seemed* like 'the substance' (aka, dragon marrow?) was no longer rejuvenating her body the way it should. If that was the case, even a fresh dose of immortality stuff might not have helped her, in which case her choice to use her last dose on Elektra might make sense if she saw Elektra as her replacement... Or maybe she had a very specific intent behind calling her a 'vessel,' and was planning on destroying every part of Elektra that was a free-thinking person, and moving her own consciousness into her body, somehow? Hard to say. Unlike Gao, who was showing off her super-power to force-push people, we didn't really get to see Alexandra in action.

But I do think it would have been more interesting to have the door underground lead to a secret entrance to Kun Lun, and they could still have the dragon remains there.
After reading the Immortal Iron Fist run, that's exactly where I thought they were going. But I suppose there's no reason why there couldn't have been dragons on the North American continent, back in the day...

The Black Sky. What exactly made them so special? It was obvious that Elektra was more than human here but she was still the Black Sky in DD S2 and she was not at the same level as she is here, so why the change after her revival?
She seemed to be more 'pure' Black Sky after her revival (and we already know from DD season 1 that Stick generally hunts down and murders Black Sky children, considering them inhuman monsters, so her being raised by Stick might have led to her being trained in such a way to discourage any of her Black Sky potential, as he tried to beat the Black Sky out of her).

As for what they are, I think they are just mutants. Marvel can't say the 'M-word,' but the name 'Black Sky' evokes images of the skies after Hiroshima/Nagasaki, which, in a superhero universe, could have led to a generation of people affected by radiation and producing children with superhuman potential.

the funny thing is he did well on GoT, though he only had like a few scenes in the early scenes and barely any in the later seasons. I just presumed Finn Jones could act haha.

So what did Alexandra mean when she said K'un-Lun wasn't "destroyed" and that Danny only saw what he wanted to see?

If K'un-Lun is anything like the comic book version, it can be cut off from this dimension. So you'd go there, and the city would seem to be 'gone.' 'Cause it is gone, until it reappears, or unless you have a way to breach that dimensional gate.

I'd assume that Alexandra knows this, and Danny, if he did, has forgotten it. He's the guy who knew that his Iron Fist was the 'key' to unlock what the Hand wanted unlocked, and then allowed Elektra to bait him into firing it up and punching at her while she stood right in front of the locked thing he was absolutely not supposed to unlock, so, at the end of the day, not the sharpest tool in the shed. :)

Yes but Elektra said she killed the K'un L'un elders. Was she lying?

This is what I found strange: at the end of IFS1, Danny says K'un-Lun is "gone", but in Defenders Ep6 he says K'un-Lun was "destroyed" by the Hand. So when Alexandra says it's not destroyed, and he only saw what he wanted to see, does this mean he was seeing things at the end of IFS1? And why would he want to see K'un-Lun destroyed? That exchange was strange.

Some sort of mental illusion defense put up by the elders?

But then what did Elektra mean when she said she killed the Elders? Was she faking that?

I'm not sure where I'd prefer Misty to show up next, probably IF's next season.
Would also make sense so she would have more time to recover, but while I would love she and Colleen developing their friendship, I would dread a possible love triangle subplot.
Bionic arm right off the bat next time, yay or nay?

I don't mind if we never get the Misty/Danny pairing in the Netflix shows. While I'd like to the shows to be as faithful as possible to the source material, I don't think the two would fit well together.

I feel like this version of Danny couldn't handle Misty, lol. She would walk all over him.

It'd be weird if she didn't at least cameo in Cage's season at least once. But I'd imagine it'd just be a hospital or home visit as she'll probably be out of commission for a good while. I'm hoping she'll be a regular on Iron Fist so that she can develop a stronger bond with Colleen and maybe start things off with Danny.

I disagree on both fronts. I think the fact that they're so different will make for interesting character development for the two of them if they are to become involved.

Hopefully Misty can help Danny grow up a little and cut out the BS while Danny might bring out a softer side for Misty.

They do have a couple of things in common. They're both super stubborn, overly zealous when they feel they have a responsibility for something, and regularly put themselves in situations that are clearly too much for them to handle. The latest of which may end up being each a relationship with each other, haha.

I liked this show a lot. Probably 3rd or 4th best season overall of the shows. I liked everyone in this, and felt Danny in particular was better in the show. Only thing I was bothered by is why is any physical damage hurting Luke? He can tak a bullet, but a ninja punch no? Thats odd. Anyways, so many questions remain, though. I have no idea where season 3 of Daredevil is going now. Prior to this, Born Again seemed likely, but with how this ended, it cannot start there. I feel like we may need to wait until season 4 for that now. Not sure how they will approach the ending, but I still want Bullseye!!! I am excited to see the world build.off the show though!

so where are we at on finding that jacket that Weaver wore in the first episode

Danny with the team is far better than Danny without the team.

Jessica had a blast mocking him and also Matt.

I wish we had more scenes with her and Luke.

Danny's complete stupor when he finds out both Matt and Stick are blind lol

what was with Danny's over-reaction when being told to calm down.

I believe the technical term is "hothead." :cwink:

But yes, I agree it was weird and didn't feel natural at all, and I again blame Finn Jones for not selling it.

This Danny is no match for this Misty!

More like just aggressively dumb.

What does he think the Hand was gonna do when he walked into their building and called them out?Just bow to the name Iron Fist?

Not listening to them trying to keep him out of being used by the Hand?

Then fighting next to the wall with the fist?

At least his aggressive dumbness allowed us to get one of the great action scenes of this show. ;)

Finished the Defenders. I give it a 7.5 I was disappointed because I expected better. Two reasons for my dissatisfaction. A weak villain. Sigourney Weaver is a great actress but she had nothing to work with. I was hoping the character she played would rival Kingpin or Cottonmouth. What a failure and of course Ironfist. Just another reminder why his 1st season sucked. He was the least interesting of all the characters. His annoying montra about being the weapon against the hand was beyond tedious. His continued brooding and temper tantrums like a child just left a bad taste again. I don't mean to pick on the actor as others have but it continues to show the bad choice that Marvel made. At least his fighting skills have improved. I would hope this isn't the last we see of the Hand because they too were a let down.
