The Defenders The Defenders Discussion Thread (NO SPOILER TAGS NECESSARY!)

Was anyone else annoyed with Foggy and Karen in this? I mean, it may have been one of those things where we the viewer are privy to more information than the characters but them constantly giving Matt **** about being DD was frustrating because the guy is TRYING TO SAVE THEIR LIVES. Like, why couldnt they understand that the entire freaking city was at stake? They acted like he was just doing it for kicks. I dunno, like I said, maybe its easier for me, the viewer, to understand but they annoyed me in this.

When did THAT theory purpose itself? I thought he started doing it because the law wasn't getting the intended results (i.e. the guy who kept beating on his wife that he took out in s1).
well the backflashes to his relationship to Elektra is S2 certainly implied a thrill seeking nature

Yeah that's the funny thing about all these superheroes who don't kill. But they damn sure main or severely damage.

I had a funny discussion about this with my friend over Rorshach in Watchmen...that Rorshach has this black and white view over life(kinda like Batman and other vigilantes ideologies taken to the extreme), where he feels like there is good and evil in the world and that evil must be punished, and he never compromises on that not even in the face of armageddon. Thats his thing. But he is a hypocrite, because he punishes and tortures moloch, for information. Torture and killing are both illegal things, both things that are considered "wrong" with varying severity. What he is doing certainly aint legal. or morally right, but he will justify it with it being for the "Greater good", a philosophy he is against from the start.

Its the same thing with other traditional heroes, they choose where to draw the line. The line is not drawn by the govt, or police. They draw the lines themselves. They dont care about the law, only what they think is right/wrong.

And apparently, torturing/paralysing someone is right, but killing is not. These vigilantes(Batman, Daredevil, Rorshach) see the world as black and white. But, they decide what is black and what is white. The law has nothing to do with it. They enforce their own morals on the rest of the world, whether they like it or not.I want more comicbook movies/tv series to explore this topics, like some of my favourite shows/movies have already done to some extent(tdkt, bvs, watchmen, daredevil s2 etc). Which is why I liked the exchange between LC and IF, but I wanted a bit more. You certainly raise a very interesting point.

I09, you were right m8. JJ is downright annoying. Her shtick of being rude and indifferent is really getting tiresome.

OTOH, the hallway fight was freaking amazing. I wish it went on much longer than it did. I want more !!!!!!!!!!!

I liked the action. It ranged from good to awesome.

I actually loved the tunnel fight the best. Reminded me of the fight in The Avengers.

I like the overall look of DD's costume now that we see it in a better light. But I do wish it was a more reddish. It looks almost purple in some scenes.

the hallway fight was freaking amazing but the final fight was disappointing to me. it was too dark and too many quick cuts.

Overall I really liked the series, but did anybody else find the final couple of episodes underwhelming? The first four had a really great visual style, which I feel was lost in the back-half, particularly the finale. That final fight was so dark!

Episode 4 is off to a great start. Loving the banter so far.

Very much so. A lot of the dialogue and character interplay was also weaker in the last two episodes than it was in the first six.

That interaction between Luke and Danny at the end of the 2nd episode was fun. It's also the first time something interesting happened in the show because everything else before that fight was kinda boring. I hope things pick up quickly after this.

This is exactly what I noticed. Him and Colleen are a drag together. When he has more people to bounce off he let's the angsty IIF routine down and just talks like a human.

Though I will say the fact he would use the fist around the object they want him to use it was completely dumb.

I guess strategy is something else he didn't learn in Kun'Lun

Danny was at his best during the restaurant scenes. That's the Danny I liked the most.

Exactly. I'm watching Ep 4 right nao and he's actually very good in it. I don't think he's atrocious even tho I haven't seen Iron Fist but he isn't good when it comes to the more serious/dramatic scenes. When he lets his guard down and gets to bounce off of the other Defenders, he does a very good job.

So what did Alexandra mean when she said K'un-Lun wasn't "destroyed" and that Danny only saw what he wanted to see?

Finn Jones can definitely pull off carefree and fun. But when he has to act angry, confused, irritated, tough, etc, I just want to turn off the TV.

He did have a nightmare at the start of the season indicating his regret for leaving. So, either the city was still be hidden away or it's Zod 2.0

That pretty much sums it up. :funny: He should leave the angsty personalities to the rest who can do it much better.

This x1000

Bring that Finn. Who do we have to call

Very true

Everybody calls Iron Fist an idiot. Let's go with that. I don't know what Iron Fist is like in the comics, but let's turn Finn into the Goku of the show. It's the only way Finn works.

So what's been the general consensus
Avengers was very positive
BvS was polarizing/mixed to say the least (and please let's keep it like that)

From what I've seen, Defenders consensus seems to be "good not great"

First half is really solid, I'd rate it good. With the second half somewhere between good and ok.

YES YES YES. This, IMO, is EXACTLY what Danny should be like. Like Goku: Carefree, light-hearted, childishly naive but also a total badass who loves a good fight. This is how I would have written him. That is Iron Fist, that is the Iron Fist we needed. I could feel the writers trying to salvage the character but I think the damage is done, they have a different vision for this Danny Rand and Finn Jones just isn't right for this more angsty, brooding version. If we could get Danny like he was in the Restaurant episode ALL the time, I would have no complaints.

Goku rarely if ever whines and complains. Danny has done that about a 100 times so he will need a total revamp to even be anything like Goku.

Watching epi 3 now. I'm beginning to think that MCU should forget about movies & move EVERYTHING to NF;HBO;AMC;Freeform(?). This how it should be done!! They can still pour $$ into it.
