Just finished. It was a fun ride, but I feel like overall, it left me a little empty. There were a lot of things set up across the previous shows that just fell flat when we finally got to them. The sum was not greater than the individual parts--it was less.
The good:
- The character interactions were great. And it made the weaker characters, like Danny, much more enjoyable.
- The standard hallway fight was pretty great. Overall, all the fights were good.
- The scene were Foggy gives Matt the costume. Probably one of my favorite scenes between the two. It was only slightly ruined by Foggy later saying that he hopes they get Matt back after this one more adventure.
- The set up for the future of the Netflix corner of the MCU. Where DD ended up excites me, Danny looks like he's at least getting closer to where he should be (but not there yet), and it looks like the Daughters of the Dragon will be a thing.
The bad:
- Danny largely still clunked along. I thought Finn's performance in his show was because of bad scripts and bad directing...nope. It's him. Weakest actor of the bunch by far.
- The Hand's plot was so dumb. They wanted some dragon bones to keep doing what they were already doing? If "the substance" that brought them back to life is so valuable, why did they waste it on so many nameless ninjas? We know they did, because the ninjas in DD season 2 didn't have heartbeats.
- How exactly was the Hand's plan meant to destroy New York? Cities rise and fall, according to Gao. But all she wanted was some dragon juice to keep herself alive. Nothing to do with NY at all.
- The writers had no idea what to do with the Hand/K'un L'un relationship.
The Hand kept saying they wanted to get back to K'un L'un...but then implied that they were the reason it was missing in the first place. Then they say they were banished...but from Bakuto's (or was it Murakami's?) conversation with Alexandra, he says he went with her willingly. Contradictions abound.
- For all the talk of the Black Sky being so important...she really wasn't. Elektra added nothing to the Hand's plan. She was just another enforcer for them. Why did they need the Black Sky so badly?
- What, is Danny wearing a ****ing track suit now? They had a perfect chance at the end to give him his ****ing costume. They're just being stubborn about it at this point.
