Well, there we have it. The other shoe has dropped, and it's on us.
And this is why I say this is similar to Bush's two wins.
Despite all the evidence widely available people made a choice not based on good information or deep thought but "went with their gut".
The thing is just like Bush this isn't just about Trump but the coterie of ideologues that will surround him. And let's not forget that John Kasich's people said Trump approached them and offered a shadow presidency to him (sound familiar?) if he would be VP. Pence is now poised to fill that role. We have those in Brannon's orbit to consider as well. Look at his surrogates and the foolishness on display there. THOSE folks now have an line into actual policy and power. I have a hard time believing that Trump's cabinet and various appointees are going to be a better group than Bush's.
And I don't think the currently in office members of the Republican Party are going to be some kind of principled fire wall against the Trump administration in the least. While a bit divided, WINNING covers a multitude of sins for many and certain radical policies Trump talks about have been bubbling around the Republican Party for a long time.
Let's not forget the threat to the general body politic. A White Nationist movement has been born tonight. These types have been emboldened through out the campaign... And their guy just won. This isn't putting the brakes on that any time soon.
Other groups will likely roll over for him eventually too. Sure, the business community is jittery now because of market disruption, but once he dangles huge tax breaks, which the Republican congress will deliver up I am guessing, they will mostly fall in line as well.
And let's look at the Democratic Party... This plays into the hands of the fringe leftists and will probably push them into a more radical and confrontational stance as well. It exacerbates the polarization. Like a cancer Trump's victory will spread and make things uglier.
For those that think I'm painting an apocalyptic scenario... I don't think it's the end of the world and we will survive... But elections have consequences. The election of George W. Bush had dire, life and death consequences and left a terrible mess all around. People went with their gut then and look what happened.
