The Expendables 3 - Part 1

I mean if this is supposed to be the last one. I dont see why not just make it R because it's not like they have a sequel to worry about and the first 2 did decent business
paycheck for EX3. some get % from profit.

And i am less excited now. I'll still see it but i'm way less interested now.

After seeing the first two in theaters....this one being PG-13...these movies need better stories and action, so PG-13 isn't a big deal.

Also, I thought Nu Image/Millennium wanted to do a 4th one along with the all-woman spin-off?

Gibson is an oldschool badass. he needs to be a villain in a summer blockbuster movie.budget 200 millions.

What's next? TV-PG Game of Thrones?

It's deflating and before the girly man brigade come running in to claim that action movies don't need violence, boobs and language (some of them totally do ladies), this is indicative of a larger problem in Hollywood, suits find the wrong boogeyman to blame flops on and take away films identities. It's not just the R rating, it's female leads, ethnically diverse casts, original storytelling, all those get treated like poison, when they should be encouraged more often.

More stars, bigger budget. I'm guessing they feel they'll make their money back on PG-13 and not with R.

No, they know they'll make their budget back with an R, they just think 13 year olds won't have to sneak into it, so they'll make even more money. I read about certain actors being hugely pissed about having to do these films PG-13 last time, so I imagine this is all Avi Lerner's doing. He's been a thorn in the side of these films since day 1. He's the Tom Rothman of The Expendables basically.

This is your family movie right here folks. Prepare for little tufts of smoke to come out of the recipients.

It's actually a shame this franchise just never had the balls to go hard R?

The first two were obviously filmed as pg-13 but due to fan backlash a bunch of digital blood was added in post to up it to R.

I guess they figured there wasn't a point of going for another half-assed R rating this time?

I'm honestly curious about the demos who've seen the last 2 films? I'm really not sure why a film series with a cast that averaged to about 60 seems so desperate to target the teen market?

Just because it's PG-13, it doesn't mean it's a family movie. People always blow things out of proportion when a movie isn't rated R.

I'm fine with it being PG 13. Its not like the first two were hard R. It won't be much different.

Sly and Mel fighting? Yay! I wish it could've been anywhere other than an abandoned factory. I appreciate it's almost an action genre trope, but it's a little too over done.

I'm surprised we got a tv spot before another trailer. They're really marketing this thing like a Fast and Furious movie.

I see they are marketing this as " the last ride". That's another overdone pitch you usually see when the third films rolls around.

This.

Ratings don't even mean anything. There's plenty of R rated films that could've been PG-13 and vice versa.

I love how people step in to defend movies whenever someone (rightfully, in cases like this) complains that a movie is PG-13.

I think no one ever said that they'll suddenly start hugging instead of fighting and shooting, but considering that The Expendables franchise's big logline is that it's the return of old school action (neither the first or second one succeeded in doing that, IMHO), the PG-13 rating is out of place.

People bleed (red blood, not some invisible powder) and sometimes curse in old school action movies, even if it's just for a few times. I constantly see posts like The Matrix could be PG-13 if they left out some words and cut out a few seconds - well, they're not. And those few seconds of violence give them an edge a PG-13 movie would not. Same with movies like Die Hard, True Lies, Lethal Weapon and Speed. Are they ultraviolent and extremely vulgar? No, they're not. But those little slices of violence and hard-boiled moments give them an edge PG-13 simply would not.

they shouldve had Snipes use a katana as a tribute to Blade.

Man it was fun seeing them all together like that in the new trailer. Really looking forward to this one.
