If games are part of the problem, Americas gun control laws are about 50 times that.

The actual problem that no one talks about because you can't pretend to solve it by passing a law is mental health. No sane person looks at a gun and decides to slaughter children.

But that's a discussion for another thread.

Thats true to an extent. The background checks in a lot of states are too lenient when it comes to acquiring a firearm(altho for the particular instance we are talking about that point is moot). But refusing to blame media and yes that includes our precious games, is no different than refusing to blame the way mental health is handled in the states, or a myriad of other factors. There is a culture of violence in the states and that includes the games we play. I mean this issue is broad and in no way will be handled by a few idiots wanting to just remove weapons from the public or ban violent media. Those are just attention getters. Im not in any way saying games deserve more blame anything, but it seems as tho gamers are way, way too quick to slap down the idea that their media could be part of the issue.

IDC is reporting that the PS3 has surpassed the Xbox 360 in sales worldwide.

Not bad for a system that was written off as a failure a few years ago.

Yeah, I think we should probs avoid politics.

I just want to say that there's a difference between blaming and recognising factors. You can't 'blame' games or movies or music, they don't pull the trigger. They might influence an unstable mind but when that person kills someone, you blame the parents, legal custodians etc.

The problem with 'blaming' the media is that it becomes an argument of ideals and freedoms rather than a logical clinical discussion on safety and prevention.

But yeah, this probably has its own thread. It's definitely a discussion worth having though :)

Hasnt the 360 been outselling the crap outta the ps3 for like the last year and a half? or is that just stateside?

Just in North America. That's the only region where 360 has really dominated. They're kind of even in Europe, with Sony a bit ahead, and Japan, well...you know.

It does have its own thread.

Posted by Iceman in the Next Xbox thread.

Keep in mind what the 360 specs are. Here's what Iceman said about that and the Wii U.

Not bad. 8GB of Ram is what I was hoping for, and am pleased with the rest. Since I'll probably go PS4, I imagine they'll be around this level of hardware too. I think it was Gameinformer that had the rumor that the PS4 will also be able to access it's entire dashboard (store included) without quiting out of the game.

I think next gen will be like most of us expect, a refinement of the current gen, with a lot more fire power. My main concerns at this point are,

A) Price. Are we going to see $500 launches? Even the good Wii-U, with less hardware than this, from the usually cheap Nintendo, was $350.

B)Hard drive space. 500+ for a starter is good, but I hope not any lower than that.org

C)PS4 using the game tied to one console from the story in here a bit back. Which Microsoft apparently is/was thinking of using as well.

D)Given Windows 8 having a poor reception, the next Xbox running on Windows 8, or a similar design.

The report also highlights that just this past December, Sony's PS3 managed to surpass the number of Xbox 360s shipped worldwide

An important distinction.

The current xbox 360 has a style similar to Windows 8 an I like it.

Also, I hope the systems don't bock used games. I honestly can say I won't buy a new system if that's the case.

An important distinction.

Why is that ever even brought up? Can someone explain to me why companies would ever tell how many items they have shipped? Is that basically a way of saying 'well we shipped a million units to stores because they asked for a million units because a million customers want said item, so we will basically sell a million units'. Is that what these companies are going for?

I think it's just that shipped numbers are always more impressive than sold?

It's only been America that the 360 has a huge lead on the PS3.

But Europe and especially Japan PS3 outsells the 360. The PS3 has sold 4 times as many as the 360. In Europe, it's sold 5 million more.

http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/Hardware/NA/

It's hard to trust vg chartz given how many times they've had to correct their numbers after the official releases from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft. Heck, 1 year they were 2 million off on the PS3, and nearly 1 million over on the 360. However, you're right. Nintendo even released a statement a bit back, and their numbers backed Sony, and Microsoft's. Not counting the Wii-U, since I don't follow the numbers anymore. Sony typically wins Europe by a healthy amount, and dominates in Japan. The 360 dominates the US. The PS3 usually comes out ahead each week, but not by a huge margin.

As far as the PS3 finally being second place, mixed thoughts. Given Sony is my current favorite console manufacturer, you think I'd be happy with the PS3 still going strong. Honestly thoug, it's sooo late in this gens cycle, it doesn't matter. Most of the fanboy wars are over, and the damage was already done to Sony's console market share.

The best thing that can come out of this is more developer confidence in the Playstation brand like EA had with it's AC 3, and Dead Space exclusive content. Next gen hopefully Sony will have learned something from their rocky start this gen that cost them. The price needs to be competitive to the Nextbox off the bat, and good games need to be there at launch. Launching within a year of the Nextbox would help too.

This generation has lasted so long, and Microsoft's list of exclusive games isn't as strong as it was the first half of this generation. They slipped as once they released the Kinect a lot of their focus started going into that. Not to mention the sale of Mass Effect to EA was significant as they lost a huge exclusive franchise. As I've said like a broken record, changes need to be made to Xbox Live gold as it is outdated.

Also on the subject of Xbox Live Gold, does anyone here actually pay full price? I usually wait until Amazon has a deal for it. I've gotten it for as low as $30. :woot:

I will give the PS3 much credit. People written it off and notable news outlets in the first few years of the system was calling it a failure. The PS3 bounced back pretty strong by refocusing themselves and making quality games. It will be interesting to see what Sony comes up with.

Everyone and their brother already has a 360... I know guys just now buying a PS3 "just because."

Me? I got rid of mine. I'm just not a Sony guy anymore. I'm sure I'll miss The Last Of Us...but...Eh.

Maybe, MAYBE if their next system has an online structure like Live I'll keep it around.
