The Gaming Lounge: Beyond - Part 6

I'm behind on Suda 51's games. Haven't played Shadow of the Dammed or Lollipop Chainsaw, but I'll probably pick up Killer is Dead day one, because it looks like a combination of Killer 7 and No More Heroes, which is like perfect sauce.

Man it does look nuts and cool. Killer 7 was such a unique game.

Yeah, that was one of those games that just provided an experience that you'd never seen before (or after, really). Fun times, weird times.

I was kind of hoping for a remake if it in HD as a lot of people would have missed it on the Cube.

It came out on the PS2, too. Don't think it was a big seller really, but I would probably do a double-dip for a HD remaster (I rarely do for games I own, have only done so for Beyond Good & Evil HD thus far).

I dont think it was your right, but I think a lot of people didnt really "get it" so it got overlooked.

It was not your usual FPS, not exactly call of duty lol!!:woot:

With all Japanese games some things can get lost in the translation. But I loved the style of it all. Nothing like it since thats for certain.

So, looks like they're doing an "Ultimate Game Sale" on Xbox Live next week. All of these are Games on Demand, not arcade games. Decent list of old and new, but I'm not sure what the prices will actually be. I have my eye on a few, namely MGR and Lego Batman 2. If the prices are right, anyway.

I am loving Ico so much right now.

Yeah, it was a great game. They released the novelization of it not long ago, and it's supposedly pretty good. I actually was lucky enough to pick that way back when it first came out. Came close to selling it, back when it was really valuable pre-HD release. Glad I never did, though.

So my fear seems to be coming true. I haven't touched my PS3 at all this past week ever since I started my first real job. I barely have time when I get home and I had a lot of stuff to do this weekend. It doesn't bother me too much for now because I don't really have any new games, but when I get paid next week, I'm definitely going to buy The Last of Us. But until then, I don't really think I'm going to have any desire to play anything. :(

I really want to play Shadows of the Damned. Generally I'm kind of wary of Suda's stuff. I love his brand of craziness, but I feel like his games are kind of all flash no substance though. I tried the demo for one of the No More Heroes games, and while I thought everything else about the game was awesome, the gameplay left much to be desired. I don't know if it's the Mikami influence or what, but Shadows of the Damned looks legitimately pretty awesome.

The Men in Black game uses the movie actors for K & J or uses different designs?

Killer 7 is probably his game with the most depth. I didn't quite understand it at first, but there's a lot of layers to peel back in regards to it's story, and apparently there's a lot of sly allusions to Japan-US relations. I also enjoyed the odd FPS mechanics, too. But yeah, I think that's a pretty fair assessment for most of his other games, at least that I've played. NMH has decent gameplay, but nothing overall special (though the second is improved a good deal).

Killer 7 is the best one they have done so far.

Seems that GOD Live sell I mentioned has started. Not all of the rumored titles have dropped in price yet, but a few have. Probably the most notable one is ACIII for $20. But there's some older titles like Prey, Bulletstorm, and PDZ for under $5.

So I just got a ps3 recently. What exclusive games would u guys suggest? I have
War hawk
Uncharted 2 and 3
Metal gear solid 4
And infamous 2

That XBLA GOD sale I mentioned has officially started. Not sure for how long it'll last, but it looks like their doing daily deals plus games that are on sale for the entire week. Most of the latter are older titles, the only fairly new one being WWE '13, marked down from $60 to $15. The newer offerings for July 2nd are Borderlands 2 ($10), Max Payne 3 ($10), Assassin's Creed ($15), and Far Cry 3 ($20).

EDIT: Also worth mentioning that BL2's DLC is half off this week for Gold members, too. You should be about to get the whole shebang for like $20 if you chose to buy it today.

You can probably ignore everything else

I have nothing to say about War Hawk

If you have UC 2 & 3 and like them, might as well get the first one, it's pretty good, too. If you like to try something experimental, you should pick up Journey or Flower from PSN. There's also Twisted Metal, which is solid, even if slightly disappointing in SP.

Id stay away from Twisted Metal and this is coming from someone that was highly anticipating this new title. SP is too hard to the point that its frustrating and not fun and the MP is broken and has major balancing and connecting issues. I cant imagine it having a whole lot of people still around since its old by this point. The controls have a very steep learning curve as well. Also didnt help that Cage abandoned it soon after it dropped. I would say it was my biggest gaming dissapointment of 2012

Bad advice! Aside from whats been mentioned:

It depends on what type of games/genres you are interested in. If you like FPSs, the two big exclusive franchises are Resistance and Killzone. Resistance presents an alternate reality past in which aliens have invaded the world in the 1950s. My personal favorite was Resistance 2, but 3 is probably the best one. Killzone is more of a futuristic intergalactic shooter. Killzone 2 has the best SP whereas 3 has the better MP.

If platfomers are more your thing, be sure to check out the Ratchet and Clank series which is a hybrid of a platformer and third person shooter. The games literally look like a Pixar film and fused with personality and humor.

LittleBigPlanet 2 is a great game to have as it has a very robust creation system and the community has created pretty much anything you can think of.

Modnation Racers is good if you are into kart racing. The AI in single player can be a bit cheap though

Heavy Rain was my favorite game from 2010. If you are into games with a great and immersive story, this is for you. Its very unique and offers an original experience not found in many other titles this gen

Demon's Souls and Valkyria Chronicles are both great RPGs. DS should feel familiar if you've played Dark Souls and VC is a strategic RPG with an anime visual style.

Starhawk. Its the spiritual successor to Warhawk. If you like Warhawk, you may enjoy this

The Last of Us. From the makers of Uncharted and currently heralded as one of the best games of this generation. Seriously pick it up. Everyone with a PS3 should

Yes, all of the above are good suggestions. But, to be honest, I disagree about TM a lot. Well, in regards to single player anyway. It is kind of hard, but it's not any harder than TM has always been. I remember playing Black since it came with it, and that **** was just as hard, if not harder.

I would caution on LittleBigPlanet. I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't get into it as much as I wanted. In the first game, one of the levels towards the end of the single player was just brutal, I gave up then.

I would also just rent Heavy Rain because you might be like me and absolutely despise the story at the end.

In regards to Valkyria Chronicles, it's fair to say it has an anime style, but it also has this painted effected to the whole thing that makes it look pretty unique, something that's not been emulated afterward as far as to my knowledge. Great ****ing game, too. A shame we never got a console sequel, I don't even think they ported the PSP games over in a collection or anything.

Thanks man. Ive got a friend thats gonna let me borrow LBP2 and im just waitin for the last of us to come down in price. Also im definitely gonna pick up ratchet and clank and at least try the second killzone and if i like it ill get the third. The first resistance was great, i remember playing the whole thing with a friend way back when it first came out. Does heavy rain have regular gameplay or is it just mostly quick time events?

There is a Killzone Triology pack, as well as a Ratchet and Clank HD pack.
