The HULK Thread - Part 1

Hulk was a lot of fun in the first Avengers but after this showing there is a lot more potential for him going forward.
He was fun, but they've constantly been repressing Hulk throughout these movies. Especially Age of Ultron.

The Avengers was basically Stark and Hulk's movie.

True. But also, no solo hero has a film like Ragnarok in their repertoire. It's unique!

Yeah AoU went back the wrong way after they'd already turned Hulk around in the first film.

Just saw the movie yesterday and I had a theory:

Let's say World War Hulk ends up happening. What if instead of Miek who puts the bomb on Hulk's ship, it's Korg? After establishing him as the comic relief, it'd certainly be a hell of a twist. That, and the fact that Miek is little more than background material, who I can't see being important in the future.

The Hulk in this film is seriously such a big step forward for Hulk fans with a lot of future potential opened up.

It's basically the Hulk fans of the comic wanted from day one, even if he is only a costar.

This Hulk in an Avengers film will really change the team. Communication skills (and personality) are a big deal!

It felt like Whedon didn't know where to take Hulk from where he left him in Avengers 1 and decided to just undo it all.

Rampaging, hexxed Hulk aside, I didn't like how they made him even more animal like when he could clearly speak and think critically in A1. Widow had to fearfully approach a raving mad Hulk to calm him down, like he's a rabid dog.

But in the New York battle he was not acting threateningly to any of his team members while idly standing by them. He followed orders and waited patiently in the back of the group as they apprehended Loki. If the Schwarma scene is to be thought of as canon, Hulk transformed back shortly after, presumably without anything remotely like The Lullaby. He makes a snarky comment about Loki being a god. He hits Thor, which could be considered him attacking his own team, but he did it in a smug, casual fashion because Thor is his rival. He pulls a Leviathan away from a building full of people. He could have just punched at it if he was truly just an animal but instead he makes an effort to steer it away. He saves a team member.

The intelligence was actually always there but not really carried into his next appearance. Hell, we could have gotten a gradual evolution to how he is in Ragnarok if Whedon didn't get cold feet about the arc he had started for Bruce/Hulk.

Felt like he was interested most in that exchange on the Helicarrier and zero'd in on that.

Agreed. Might even lead to him eventually getting a solo movie that isn't a Banner movie with a Hulk title.

Now that it looks like Thor has joined the ranks of team members with an awesome movie, Hulk is the lone standout.

All that might just be the main reason I didn't like AoU as much as TA.

Apart from any distribution agreement wrangling I'd say this film has made that much more of a possibility. And even in team films he will have much more of a presence rather than just being the artillery you call in when you need him. I like that he could now stay as Hulk for extended periods on film rather than needing to walk around as Banner for us to get anything from him.

The main obstacle for a Hulk film without a lot of Banner is that it automatically becomes very expensive. You need to feature the protagonist a lot and every scene with Hulk is an effects heavy scene.

AOU disappointed me in a lot of ways, and the movie just gets worse on repeat viewings for me, but Hulks role and how much it took the character backwards was what disappointed me most.

It's why hearing all of the positive feedback on him in Ragnorak is making me more excited to see it than I normally would be.

The Hulk was absolutely perfect here. He's easily the second best character in the movie after AwesomeThor. Banner had a lot of character work in the Avengers movies and now it's the Big One's turn.

If you didn't like him in AoU you'll definately love him here. Banner also nicely explains why Hulk talks now.

There were a tonne of effects in this film. I think a solo Hulk based on Earth could be done with a similar budget.

Hope they somehow seperate hulk and banner just for a short time. It would be interesting to see them meet on film.
I don't mean savage hulk but fairly intelligent talkative hulk.
