Those are both studios that have done good work.

The only time I really worry about what VFX studio is working on a movie these days is when there's a fully CGI character. A lot of the smaller studios can handle most other work just as well as ILM or Weta.

If they aren't involved in Guardians or Avengers 2, it'll worry me.

A lot of Iron Man is fully CGI, though. The flying scenes come to mind.

Still, I'll hold off being skeptical until I see the results. I'm sure they'll do fine.

Yeah.

nothing negative came out of comic-con about the way the CG looked, so I doubt it will be a hugely noticeable difference

Yeah but he's this solid metal object, easier to render.

Not too easy, though. Some of the CG in Iron Man 2 looked pretty dodgy where the drones were concerned.

I'm actually kind of worried about them using Digital Domain since they recently declared for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. They had to layoff a lot of people and restructure themselves, which brings to question what the effect will be on their overall quality and timeliness. I'll be happily surprised if they can continue their work at the level we've seen from them in the past.

I think Digital Domain did a lot of the Thanos dimension stuff in Avengers. Don't think it will be too bad.

These movies use TONS of FX houses these days. Avengers had like every FX house in town working on it.

theyre filming right around me in Coconut Grove...dunno why i havent gone over to see if i can catch something. my gf went and found the production but it was inside a mansion.

I don't have a problem with Marvel going with someone different for the FX. I mean, sure, ILM and Weta have earned their reputations, but how are any other studios going to acquire the experience necessary for major movies if everyone just keeps going to the same two studios all the time?

These are the last 3 weeks where we won't have a trailer for an upcoming MCU movie until August 2014.

Think of it like that.

Probably even beyond that. I'm sure Guardians of the Galaxy will have some sort of Avengers 2 teaser much like Captain America did. We don't know what the plan is for Ant-Man yet. There's still a chance it could get a late 2014 release.

Ant Man is the potential "other film" for 2014, Cap2 & GotG are the only ones confirmed. It depends on Wright's timetable with World's End which is filming now and is set for release next August, so theoretically they could start production on Ant Man late August '13 for release in Nov/Dec '14.

Haven't really kept up with GOTG news I've tried getting into one of their most recent graphic novels but never finished the first one. Better go for some classics...when I can afford them.
