Iron Man 3 The IRON MAN 3 News & Speculation Thread - Part 3

I think the Hulk that Tony beat in his classic Iron Man (when his armor froze up after) turned out to be a robot and not the actual Hulk. I could be wrong, though. Despite IM's rise in popularity, his power levels just don't seem to be as high as they were in the past. This is particularly odd, since his armor should be getting progressively more powerful.

You are wrong. It was definitely the real Hulk. In fact, the story was originally about finding a way for Banner to inhibit the change through some device that Stark built for him. The unwelcome side effect was that, for a little while, the Hulk's mind was trapped inside Banner's body, so only his mind transformed. However, he did eventually transform properly and went on a rampage, and came into direct conflict with Iron Man.

In the movies, it's fine. And they made him go toe-to-toe with Thor which was nice. In the comics, IM seems to have gone down in power levels over the years. Hulk and Thor seem to only have gotten more powerful. Bendis always relies on story device that IM's armor gets taken over by an outside force, which has become a cliche now. Usually once a character becomes more popular, their power levels go up in the comics.

I always thought that Iron Man could hold his own against Hulk or Thor if only for a few minutes. Lately, I feel he gets tosses around like a ragdoll against them.

Thanos also has seen a rise in his power levels over the years. I think it falls to Marvel wanting to maintain him as a huge threat, so they've made it more and more impossible for heroes to defeat him without some kind of magic device. Although, the GotG recently did take down a reborn Thanos via telepathy, so I suppose he still has weaknesses.

Hmmm. I'm going to look up the issue I'm thinking of when I get home. Maybe we're crossing storylines. I remember being disappointed at a story where Iron Man defeated Hulk who turned out to be a robot. It was a common plot device to have the defeated villain turn out to be a robot, which somehow cheapened the villain's defeat.

The issues I'm referencing (not remembering but referencing) are Iron Man #131-132, with #133 being the follow up story where Ant-Man (Scott Lang) has to shrink down and go inside Iron Man's frozen armour to fix some circuits to restore power to him before his air supply runs out. In the mean time, Dr Erica Sondheim operates on Banner to remove the device invented by Stark that was implanted in his heart to control the transformation.

I looked at my issues. You're right. I was thinking of Iron Man #9 when the Hulk which was fighting Iron Man was defeated and revealed to be a robot. A robot controlled by Mandarin. I knew I had read that somewhere a long time ago. Sorry for any confusion.

The storyline you were talking about was awesome. That's one of the best, if not THE best, eras of Iron Man. And it shows you just how powerful IM can be. Sure it froze up his armor doing so, but he was able to take down the Hulk.

Iron Man did beat the Hulk once in his classic red and gold armour by channelling all his power into a single punch. However, it did cause his circuits to overload and his armour froze up afterwards.

Damn that's badass, I keep telling my friends that Iron Man is no lightweight he's a HEAVY HITTER.

No problem. I do remember the Hulk robot programmed by the Mandarin now that you mention it.

Yeah, I personally think it's the best era. It's also the era that introduced us to James Rhodes, Bethany Cabe and Justin Hammer as well as all the speciality suits and the original alcoholic storyline.

I did like Michellinie and Layton's second run, but I just prefer their first run that bit more. Plus I preferred John Romita Jr as the penciller than Mark Bright. Romita Jr had a sleeker style and the red and gold classic armour never looked better with him and Layton drawing/inking it.

I would also say that RDJ's Tony Stark is probably closer to the Layton/Michellinie Stark than other versions of him, although even their Stark was more serious than RDJ. But he was still very heroic in that era and much more confident, secure and strong, and a more fun character overall. I think their second era (which introduced Armor Wars) made him more of a renegade character who didn't always play by the book, whereas the first era he was a straight-up hero.

Iron Man being unconscious at the end of the Avengers is slightly reminiscent of that issue #132/133 as well as that animated Iron Man/Spider-Man/Hulk mini film.

There's a big splash page as well where he's knocking out the Hulk in that issue. Looks pretty awesome.

Any word on when they're filming in China? Or if any of the big actors or heading over there?

What's with that IGN article on Peppers apparently the actress thinks she's getting to old for the role? It said she may not be in Avengers 2 ? I'd be bummed of this was her last film shes pretty hot ..and I'd be bummer not see all the orginal mcu ppl..

I'm fine with supporting characters not being in every MCU film.

She's only 39. And more than half of the cast is older than she is.

Gwyneth Paltrow still looks great for her age. In the Avengers she looked particularly fetching in those short shorts and bare feet, and that's the oldest she's been in a movie so far.

We need a move like she did in Shallow Hal. You guys know which one I speak of. :)

No the one she's cut off jeans and bends over a counter or something.

I confess I always thought Paltrow was hot in that hoity toity, stuck up chick from high school who had money way. She had kind of a rep of being kinda frigid, but she's cool.

Gwyneth looks hot in this pic holding IM's helmet:

Final? I'm going to guess that's just an assumption. ^ Those pics are awesome! Really dig the bottom left pose with that armor
