Besides its not like Thomas is a well-defined character. They could be heading in to Telltale's idea where Thomas was corrupted.

Yeah I really loved that twist from the Telltale's game.

Why are some mad that they are going on a different route with Thomas Wayne in this movie :funny:. It's not meant to be canon and comic accurate.

I'm not mad with the new Thomas Wayne route. The only thing that gives me a bit of pause is the idea of his similarity with Trump being so on the nose, at least according the article. It may not end up being that obvious a parallel in the film .

But, the idea of a different type of Thomas Wayne being a Kenneth Lay/ Gordan Gecko type sleezy CEO , I don't have an issue with.

Baldwin can play that role in his sleep ,and I haven't seen anyone so far argue he can't play the role.

Making Thomas Wayne a Donald Trump like character is a take that gives me pause on their creative choices.

Casting Alec Baldwin to play a Donald Trump character just reeks of laziness.

The whole thing's just lazy. Wayne as a Trump caricature and then getting Baldwin for that role...

Agreed. That’s like casting Reese Witherspoon as Norma Desmond*.

*for those who don’t know, that’s a Sunset Blvd reference. It’s one of the best films ever.

How is it more lazy than making Thomas Wayne the same good guy? I never get this complaint. They're taking a different approach so they're lazy... okay. Also, just because he is described as a Trump-esque figure doesn't mean he's a Trump caricature. Trump is just the most relevant example of a sleazy tanned businessman.

So if Batman does appear in this, will he be like Donald Trump Jr? :o

Maybe the Joker himself will be like Bernie Sanders. Who is playing him?

No kidding. Wait until we get our first look at The Joker. We know it'll be a version like we've never seen before.

And this "Trump" thing is from a "source". By the time they start filming, it could be something else.

WTF?! They're basing THOMAS WAYNE on Donald Trump?

If that's true... f*** this movie. I mean, if you thought Jonathan "Let 'em die, kid" Kent was bad, wait 'til ya get a load of Thomas "I moved on her like a b****" Wayne.

Maybe the reason Thomas Wayne got shot was that he tried to grab someone by the p***y and they retaliated in self defence.

I expect we'll hear the slogan "Make Gotham Great Again"

Or even "Make Batman Great Again" :o

LOL, you're probably right. Wayne will propose building a wall around Gotham to keep criminals out.

Maybe Arkham Asylum is also where they shut Mexicans away. :o

Or perhaps there will be a Hillary Clinton-like senator. Thomas Wayne will incite Gotham-ers to chant "lock her up" and then he'll appoint a special prosecutor to have her investigated and thrown into Arkham. :o

And what if Batman finds out that he's not the son of Martha Wayne but one of the many women Thomas had an affair with? Maybe he's actually Bruce Daniels. :o

Shouldn't we wait until we know more about the movie and what they're going for with the character before we start saying things like this?

It could be super on the nose and awkward, it could be subtle and subversive. Maybe it could work, maybe it won't. Who knows.

Get out of here with that nuance.

I know that at this point nothing is set in stone and perhaps this Trump rumor is simply speculation because Baldwin is playing him. I certainly hope so.

But if there is truth to it, that's a dealbreaker for me. Good God, I watch movies to get away from the horrors Trump is inflicting up on the world. I don't need to be reminded of him when I'm watching a damned Joker movie, especially in a character who is supposed to be a good man and a key reason why Bruce Wayne goes on to help people later in life.

I'm sure that when they say that Baldwin is playing a Trump-like version of Thomas Wayne, they mean someone who is a wealthy socialite, someone who is a cutthroat capitalist, someone who is a little disconnected from the common people, etc. I'm sure it has nothing to do with Trump's mannerisms or character attributes. That'd be silly.

From the article:

"But this being a movie project that will veer off-center from the traditional Batman canon, sources say the script paints Thomas Wayne as a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump."

Hmm, we'll see. If the similarity is too blatant, then that'd be a monumentally stupid idea on the creative team's part.

He should just show up in his SNL outfit. What's Trump going to do about that?

Trump is hardly the worst thing about the world. I trust you don't watch war movies?

Tell you what though gang... I’d prefer a new Batman movie to this. I know that sounds like a bizarre thing to say.

Tell Matt Reeves to make haste with his script then.
