"The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 1

He talked endlessly about how crazy he was while filming and then had the gall to attack the press once he realized it made him look like a tool. He claimed the condom thing was made up by the media but he was the one who went around talking about it non-stop.
That was his co-stars and the producers hyping it up with their stories. As far as I recall, he barely talked about his method preparation. I can think of maybe one or two instances where he plainly stated he had to go off-rails (I'm paraphrasing) because the part deserved it.

I didn't blame Leto for the damaged tattoo.

In David Ayer's next movie with Shia Labeouf, titled as "The Tax Collector", Shia has tattoos, so maybe that's the aesthetic Ayer wants in his movies.

I have seen many people put the things they disliked about Leto's Joker (Tattoos, costume, the characterization) as Leto's fault.

The characterization/design was garbage, but Leto himself made some poor decisions with the performance. Growling and purring and laughing like a dying parrot ? That's absolutely all on him.

The idea that Leto had no input on characterization... you guys.

I think he's got more screen time in that Rick Ross music video than the actual movie.

By that logic, Cavill has some input on how Superman was portrayed in BvS right ?

Director has the last word on how a character will look and act onscreen, sometimes Directors do take inputs from actors but it's not the usual practice and in Leto's case we don't know anything to assume otherwise.

He talked his antics up a pretty decent amount. Google his interviews with E News. He brought the whole "used condom" thing to them and then a year later tried to say they made it all up.

I'd compare Leto's Joker to Depp's Willy Wonka, in that I think he probably COULD have played a good version of the character but he just missed the mark in an epic way.

Yup. Leto is not a bad actor at all. Kind of sucks that he's become a running joke after SS.

Jared Leto could’ve made a good TDKR style Joker for sure

I don’t trust him enough to play the role again. Plus, enough “damage” has been done already, it would be best to just let Joaquin have his shot and then recast the DCEU Joker. Unless of course Phoenix can be coaxed into becoming the Joker for the mainline DC movies.

I still don't know what they were going for with the look of Leto's Joker? It's odd, cause we see Affleck's Batman, and he looks exactly like Batman. Cavill looks exactly like Superman. Gaddot looks exactly like WW. And then Leto looks like.....a f'n train wreck with green hair.

As for his performance, I really don't know? I think he was in the movie for around 3min total. Most scenes lasted 10-30 seconds. He was barely in it, but I wasn't a big fan of what we did see. And those stupid ugly grillz definitely affected his voice/speech. Just a bad decision all around.

Ayer was pulling his now legendary LA street thug thing. Snyder's Joker would have been more in line with the comics.

I think Leto could have been a good Joker..

Ayer was the wrong guy to be handling the character/actor. Maybe Venom will be good, but it seems like Hardy is all over the place.

Can you imagine Tom Hardy's Rick Flagg if he stayed in that role?

Ayer would have been better off just making a street drama with Black Mask.

Awesome news. Shaping up to be a great cast.

Jeff Sneider says Viggo Mortensen passed on the Thomas Wayne role and that Wayne Manor is a location in the film.

Baldwin is 60.

Assume we’re going to see young Bruce in this case? So Joker is going to be way older than Batman.
I mean it's not unheard of for an older wealthier guy to have kids. One need not look any further than Trump.

Having said that, I almost wonder if Bruce won't even exist in this film.

I can't see Bruce adding much to the film. Maybe a small cameo.

sources say that the script paints Thomas Wayne as a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donlad Trump.

Taking a page from Telltale with this Thomas iteration. Still unsure how I feel about it, but an elseworlds take can go anywhere with these characters by nature.

Always good to see talent stacking up.

Nice touch that an ideal Batman in the 80s ends up playing the father in the 2010s.
