I have been saying the real title for a long time already. Its the Fanfiction Four.

The sad thing is I have read fanfic that was leagues better than this movie sounds.

fr'ex

Reed walked into the room to find his friend Ben, who was looking sad. "Why so glum, chum?" said Reed, lighting a pipe.

"Aw my rocky exterior is so dry and cracked, stretcho. Can ya gimme a hand?"

"Sure Ben" said Reed, stretching across the room for a bottle of lotion.

etc, etc

At least fanfiction attempts to honor the characters, even if it's full of headcanons and misinterpretations. Fox isn't even trying. Not to mention this is their job. People are being paid actual money to do this.

On the scale of misguided, bizarre and idiotic ideas for comic-book adaptations, "Aunt May prequel series!" and "Victor Domeshev, angry blogger!" have to be #1 and #2 in some order. No one with a couple of functioning brain cells took a look at this and said, "YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS! THIS IS ****ING DUMB ON A MONUMENTAL SCALE"?

If Doom is an anti social blogger then what will Silver Surfer or Galactus be if they are in the sequel?

Galactus will be a computer virus that "eats" all the data on hard drives it comes across. It will have a subroutine to help it find the most data rich sources called The Silver Web Surfer.

Sounds crazy enough to where it just might be true!

Dang it Casius! Now when you post, I'm only going to picture you as that jerk Wacka Flacka in my head............and man does he suck. :argh:

lol we're nothing alike, the only thing similiar about us is that we're both black. Nothing more :woot:

The worst part about all of this is that it actually sounds like an interesting film. I would be interested in seeing this if wasn't supposed to be the Fantastic Four.

I understand Fox needed to make this to retain the rights but surely there has to be some limits to the changes they can make right....

I also love how Fox has already planned a sequel to this...like they are so sure it's going to be a hit.

well that's the thing, this could be a "hit". From what I understand they haven't spent much on filming this so it could easily make back its marketing. Also keep in mind they haven't done any kind of publicity on this as yet so those are more dollars saved.

So in terms of making more than they've spent to make it is quite possible.

Franchises getting treated like this by corporate overlords should be considered a crime. Against film making...

Don't worry. This corporate overlord will eventually be demoted to anti-social programmer and internet blogger. He was probably a monarch before.

Sadly, with the budget being $50M I can see it easily making that back. The premise doesn't sound bad, it's just that it's not the F4, it's a "gritty" sci-fi flick. People here will see it out of curiousity(thanks Kelly and Willie)adding to it's box office, proving MBJ right, helping them go forward with a sequel. The thing I wonder with all the things we are hearing, it sounds nothing like F4. Heck the characters are almost completely changed. Will it be enough for Disney to go forth with a lawsuit saying basically Chronicles 2 with the name F4 on it and nothing like the comic characters. From what we are hearing, this sounds nothing like the F4 or Dr. Doom. With Marvel being alledgely pissed with the direction and cutting off the "marketing" in comics for this thing, one can only wonder the only reason that Disney allowed these changes will be for a breach of contract due to not releasing it in time. Time will tell.

You are way to positive for this film for my liking. :o

Take this with a pound of salt as you would any message board whispering a, but someone over on the Bleeding Cool boards swears that he was involved with the production and knows some details about the movie. He says that in the film the Fantastic Four aren't scientists, but instead they win a reality TV show to go into space, and when they return home they have a documentary crew following them around 24/7. Normally I'd just dismiss this as utter nonsense, but based on everything else we've heard about the film this now sounds eerily credible.
And blogger doom is a... angry fan? He is gonna send some mean tweets to celebs? (Watch you iCloud, Sue!)

Part of me wants this reality show rumor to be true. I'm pretty much convinced this movie is going to be a disaster anyway, so I'm hoping for the most MONUMENTAL disaster possible at this point.

You're not the only one that feels that way.

This is truly the 1967 Casino Royale of CBMs.

With Casino Royale, because the director couldn't launch a credible franchise against the official Bond one by EON/MGM, he set out to ruin it by making it as much of an abomination of the real thing that he possibly could.

You're not the only one that feels that way.

Let's make some guesses on what OTHER ways they can f*** this up.

The "FantastiCar" is a '73 Impala with one primer fender and a bad transmission that Reed is fixing up. Reed thinks it's fantastic, even though everyone else makes fun of him for it. Towards the end of the film, Dr. Doom rips it into multiple pieces (a clever nod to the comics!).

The Negative Zone is a site where all banned members of a site Doom frequents meet up and vow to troll the Fantastic Four into retirement.

This movie sounds so far off it's mark it's not even funny, it seems like we are getting Fantastic Four in name only and even that we are not 100% sure of. As a matter of fact I wonder if in being so different from it's source material if it almost wouldn't be possible for Marvel/ Disney to suggest and argue that a Fantastic Four movie was never made per their contract and request that the rights revert back. I mean seriously though I don't know why Fox finds it so important to keep the rights to these characters when they obviously have no interest in using their likenesses. Really, with a few very small changes to what they currently have there would be absolutely no connection what so ever and there would be no need of the rights and you would end up with practically the same movie. So, why not just let them revert. I feel like Fox is almost just hanging on to the rights to be spiteful. Not saying Fox is wrong in the argument they have with Marvel, as Marvel has done some childish stuff also, but seriously Fox it's the fans that are suffering. Just please god let it revert.

Because, even if they don't make any money off it, retaining the rights can be considered a win. It means Marvel/Disney has fewer characters available to create another successful franchise (which would be more competition for them at the box office).

I kind of understand what you are saying, but at the same time Fox obviously doesn't feel these characters (used as their comic likeness) can be successful at the box office, because if they felt it could be done with their comic likeness with Box Office success they would be doing it. So, Fox has no faith in the characters ability to turn a profit if done similar to the comics. Therefore, using this logic if Marvel was to regain the rights to these characters most of us would assume Marvel would try to bring a faithful version of the characters to the big screen, and since Fox doesn't believe that can be done successfully at the box office, they would essentially be handing Marvel a problem movie that would be no competition to one of their movies what so ever (at least in their mind).
