Take this with a pound of salt as you would any message board whispering a, but someone over on the Bleeding Cool boards swears that he was involved with the production and knows some details about the movie. He says that in the film the Fantastic Four aren't scientists, but instead they win a reality TV show to go into space, and when they return home they have a documentary crew following them around 24/7. Normally I'd just dismiss this as utter nonsense, but based on everything else we've heard about the film this now sounds eerily credible.

If that is true, that is really scraping the barrel.

I can't stand documentary crews following people around in TV shows or movies. The way it is filmed is so annoying and takes you out of the whole thing. This, combined with found footage of their mission would probably be a cheap ass way to film everything though.

Goes with the 'found footage' style rumours I suppose

PA-LEASE BE TRUE!

Perhaps that's why they wear "containment suits" at one point since, ya know, gonna be in space and all. And it's conceivable that Fox hired Trank to do something similar to Chronicle in as not so much "found footage" but a 24/7 reality taping.

Wow, if this is true, stands a good chance we'll see a Marvel F4 one day.

EDIT: perhaps Doomblogger is jealous of their new found fame and finds a way to get "powers" too. Or maybe he just writes terrible things about them and the climax is a courtroom "battle" for liability damages and not a physical showdown. Oh the possibilities with this new, grounded direction!

I have to say that it would take a lot to convince me that the 'reality tv' rumour is true. As much of a train wreck as this movie appears to be I still have trouble believing they could be that stupid.

This sounds too awful even for this production and I'm going to assume someon's just having fun . . . But unfortunately, based on everything else we know, we can't dismiss it.

That's what could've been said before about Doom being an internet blogger and anti-social programmer. Could Fox actually be that stupid to make him that?

I think for me it's two things. I'm more used to bastardisations of individual characters when it comes to adaptations than I am with the entire concept of an adaptation being entirely divorced from the material that's being adapted.

Secondly, the 'reality tv' angle just sounds so mind numbingly trashy and halfwitted that I can't help but give them bare minimum benefit of the doubt that they couldn't be that crazy.

Though if it does turn out to be so then we are definitely through the looking glass on this one. lol

I'm surprisingly not finding the reality tv thing to be that far fetched. It fits with everything we know so far.

Unfortunately you are correct. We've been told by multiple sources that this will have a similar feel to Chronicle and hand-held documentary cameras would provide that.

The only thing that makes it seem untrue is that it"s an absolutely terrible idea.

And while I'm skeptical for that reason, nothing I've seen or heard from anybody associated with this film convinces me it's not at least possible.

Yep. Fits in with the found footage idea and doesn't seem incongruous with anything else we've heard.

Wtf is the reality tv ******** im reading? God have mercy on our souls. Kinberg a hack and terrible writer. Ugh I ddnt need this after the doom blogger news.:whatever:

Man, I'm not sure how they could top this for a sequel

Please be true. Oh please be true.

After the Domashev news I have gone so far past hoping for a good movie that now I'm hoping for the worst movie ever.

Please please be true.

I would love for the reality tv thing to be true, just out of morbid curiosity and to see the what the supporters would say then.

Dang I vaguely recalled that. Didn't remember it was Penny Arcade though.

I agree. If it's going to be a train wreck, I hope it will be the biggest one in the history of cinema. It will make Ed Wood's movies seemed like masterpiece by comparison.

This is perfect for Trank's style though. Four random people/family get together. Freak accident in space (a reality series documenting tourists in space isn't very far away people). Domashev hacks the systems and gets a ticket as well. Everyone gets zapped with superpowers. They are taken in by the government and green screened the rest of the film. Perfectly plausible minus the superpowers. This is something Trank can do well going by Chronicle.

LOL! Yes! This totally NEEDS to happen! Let's see this thing go out in a pyrotechnic blaze of absurdity. Flame on!
