The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 7

This is an interesting point that I missed until Kar pointed it out, but that statement does seem specifically connected to their powers. And since they do seem to be changing powers and since we saw some early rumors in which Reed got 'super-smart' after the accident, it's possible that he won't stretch (which certainly wouldn't be 'realistic').

It's not out of the question at this point that Reed's powers could be eliminated.

Nothing would surprise me at this point. Reed could end up secretly being a transvestite Godzilla at the end of the film and I'd believe they'd be dumb enough to do that.

If this film does turn out to be the massive turkey we all expect it to see that argument will be gone, it won't be something that the Fox fans will be able to use. And as you say it will be interesting to see how much of an impact it could have on the GA and their willingness to trust Fox.

They will still use it and they will still have undying devotion to FOX.
They won't accept the movie as being bad, even if it fares poorly at the box office.
I still get upset remembering the discussions of people defending X3: The Crap Stand, even after it premiered and we saw the unspeakable disdain and disrespect shown towards the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix story.

They'll do the same with this crapfest.

Realistically, the author probably meant - 'The Thing can change back and forth, Johnny changes colors, and Sue can do telekinesis, but Reed's powers are pretty much the same as always.'

. . . But I wouldn't assume anything is too crazy for this production.

I don't know what's crazier - that we're looking at a synopsis that would pretty much unequivocally make this the worst, most unfaithful comic-book adaptation ever and saying: "Yeah, that's pretty much what I expected."

or

Some people are actually defending a synopsis that would pretty much unequivocally make this the worst, most unfaithful comic-book adaptation ever.

At this point I would rather have the worst possible CBM they could possibly make than this being an okay movie. If you're going to bastardize the comic this much, then why go half measure? Reed can be a brainy Pilates instructor and Ben a simple bricklayer for all I care now. They should bring in choruses of dancing girls just to top it off.

Well, if after a trailer or 2 it looks nothing like an F4 movie, they will be doing that in the miscellaneous movie forum.

Really? You ALWAYS found 616 FF boring as ****?

Then why when I asked if you had ever read a FF comic before you said this -

The troll always reveals itself.
Oh snap!!! :wow:

:funny: That's funny. If only Fox spent half as much money on production budgets as they did on lawyers.

Lol :yay: That's what I was wondering when I read it: How much does this cost them? To have someone trawl the net for that pic (and mine wasn't even the original, it was an amended version of it) and email out 'cease, desist, and delete,' warnings to everyone who might have it hosted? It's not like I have a big affiliated site or anything. Small potatoes at best.

Seems wasteful and utterly petty to me...But no matter, I've deleted the photo's (that I'd already forgotten I had) from my web-site so they can bugger off now and count Fox's coin for a job well done, lol :cwink:

This thread is insanely more entertaining to me than it should ever be, but no way in hell am I watching this movie.

The thread appears more entertaining than the actual movie sounds.

Also, what is with this whole Dr. Franklin Storm thing. To me it sounds like he is really the brains of the operation and not Reed. Despite Fox saying Reed is a genius it sounds as if he is only there to assist. Reed Richards is one of the smartest characters in the MCU and really should not be playing second fiddle to anyone in that capacity especially in his own movie.

Also, I agree with others that have said that if this movie fails hard (which it looks like it will) Fox could potentially poison their pool of other CBM movies, by loosing peoples faith in their ability to produce quality CBM's.

X3 - Strike One

The Wolverine -Strike Two

Fantastic Four (Reboot) - Strike Three and your out!

and this is not to suggest that they haven't had other movies that were not crap, but at least most of those had moments that made the movies enjoyable as a CBM fan.

Surfer

For me:

Daredevil: Strike One!

Elektra: Strike Two!

Fantastic Four: Strike Three ... you're out!

Fox asks for a "do-over"

X3: Strike One!

FF ROTS: Strike Two!

Borigins: Strike Three! ... you're out! ... Again!

Fox asks for another "do-over"

First Class: Hits a double

Fox moves forward with FF reboot: This fans leave the stands

Wolverine: Didn't see

DOFP: Didn't see

FF Reboot: Stadium collapses into a sinkhole

Didn't care for The Wolverine but DOFP is great IMO. You should see it,Ragnaroknroll.

I'd say wear it as a badge of honour (being picked on by Fox lackeys, not keeping the pic on your website that is). It just makes them look petty minded control freaks.

I thought both were great, but like I've said in more detail in The Wolverine forums, there was a potential for a much greater film there.

And just to add in, since it was getting a kicking earlier, I very much enjoyed Man of Steel too.

I'd be more inclined to swap one of those out for Origins - I actually quite liked X3, or at least I find it the most enjoyable to rewatch. The Wolverine's pretty damn good as well, minus the ending.

It's not funny that wobbly got a cease & desist, but it *is* funny that they truly are trying to keep every last detail they possibly can buried until the zero hour. If that is not a huge red flag then I do not know what is.

This movie already feels like watching Titanic go down after hitting an iceberg.

Marvel-Disney to acquire vacant lot and win Worlds Series next season.

I'd still like to see it someday but I'm not putting money in Fox's pocket if I can help it. At best I'll spend a buck on Redbox. But at the very least I want to see Whedon's Quicksilver first. I still think Foxsilvers design was terrible and after catching the Quicksilver scene I wasn't won over. I thought it was stupid that he could play the song "Time in a Bottle" on his walkman while running faster than bullets. I also didn't like how they turned Beast into the Hulk and Xavier giving up his powers to walk again seemed like a lame plot device.

Wolverine turned me off because of what they did to Silver Samurai and Viper. But ultimately, as I've said before the FF are my favorite super team and I'd cut Fox a lot more slack if it weren't for their long history of running that franchise into the ground. It doesn't look like they are turning things around any time soon. I wish they'd just give up the ghost already.

I think I will, and I think it does indeed, lol :yay:

Just for anyone else's amusement this was the email (since they sent it to me I consider this message my property now, lol):

Funnily enough, the image they mention was an altered one, not the original. I did have the original twinned with an altered one for quick comparison but they didn't mention it. All are gone now though, lol :yay:

FYI, for me:

First Class: Meh

Wolverine: Ok

DOFP: Good (not great, not the best, just good)

That is weird. If Fox was smart they would've hired you to help model the Thing. I thought your manip was pretty much perfect. Guess instead they decided they don't want anything out there that looks better than what they actually end up force feeding audiences.

Sometimes movies work in visual and aural levels that don't make logical sense but is beautifully cinematic. So who cares?
