Ant-Man is also getting an official tie-in comic set in the 60's. Hell, the statement that Fox is the only studio making period pieces is completely ignorant. Captain America: The First Avenger was a period piece, the Agent Carter One Shot was a period piece, the Agent Carter series will be a period piece, and parts of Ant-Man will be a period piece. Marvel Studios is doing that particular trick just as much as Fox.
Captain America: TFA was not a period piece. It was set in the 1940s.
Wait... what year are we again?
The X-Men films don't follow a formula? I really enjoyed The Wolverine. I thought the Wolverine/Mariko stuff was great. The climax of the movie, however, is very formulaic. Even the positive reviews noted the generic action pieces in the third act. The X-franchise has arguably followed a formula more than the MCU has. How many times does Magneto have to try to eradicate humanity in the climax before that qualifies as a cliche?
