The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 8

Every day I want Marvel to get the rights back more and more. I'm hopeful that when this movie tanks (assuming it even still comes out) that they'll just say **** it and sell the rights back to Marvel.

It still baffles me that they've managed to put out the best X-Men film yet (imo) with DOFP but are on the verge of releasing possibly one of the worst, if not THE worst, comic book film of all time.

It's mind boggling.

That's because the X-Men series has had Singer, Vaughn and Mangold. Three individuals who deeply care about the characters and story. Nobody forced them to sign a contract and make this movie to fund a different movie or have some slave binding contractual agreement.

TLC makes a world of a difference. Singer primarily has saved the X-Men franchise from descending into utter dreck.

Yeah I think any success with the X-Men franchise was more down to people like Singer and Vaughn who will stand up for themselves. Wasn't it Kinberg who said that the effects DoFP might even change when characters were born?

Can someone update me? Any more BTS talk regarding Trank?

Is there a way Marvel can get their rights back?

Most likely scenario: Fox releases film in August and fans don't show up. Fox gives up and the rights slide to Marvel after seven years of wrangling.

Best Scenario: Fox realizes they've got a mess and decide to not invest any more money in it in terms of post-production and marketing and Marvel gets the rights without Corman 2015 ever seeing the light of day.

Nightmare scenario: The mediocre, low-budget effort is a 'success' because the budget is so low and people are interested enough in seeing something called "Fantastic Four" that Fox continues to pump out several more mediocre low-budget films.

I find it interesting that nobody has denied it. If it really wasn't true, I'd expect somebody (particularly Trank) to say something.

If I were Trank and people were spreading false, malicious, potentially career destroying rumors about me, I'd be out there defending myself.

I wish there was very real talk of FF going back to Marvel or a joint collaboration on it, in the same way that there are very concrete discussions right now and a very real hope of Spider-Man being in the MCU.

I think it is going to be very difficult for FOX to play "keep away" with the FF for seven years after FFINO given Marvel's aggressiveness regarding character rights. With Spidey added to their film slate, and multiple Netflix series in production, Marvel can counter program FOX/ Marvel releases in order to restrict opening weekend grosses. I'm not sure that "Gambit: The Movie" can survive having eight episodes of "The Defenders" available at the same time.

I'm sure that FOX would love a Spidey style co-producing arrangement post FFINO, but I don't see Marvel going along. I think some minor accommodation is reached - cooperation in scheduling? tie-in merchandise? - and FOX will declare victory and let the FF go home.

Probably no one is denying it because it's not spread all over the entertainment industry websites. Only place I've read anything is on this forum and the links others have provided to another forum.

I would to.

But Trank seems like the type of guy who wouldnt care much if he knew it wasnt true. On the other hand, I am surprised no at FOX has spoke about it.

Isn't Trank directing a Star Wars movie? Career destroying?

Why would Disney even allow him near their property if FF was as terrible as suggested. He may be saddled with Fox's meddling but I don't think Disney would be allowing him near one of their biggest franchise with a terrible FF sitting on his resume.

I wouldn't be so sure he is. He was announced for the Star Wars project shortly after filming on FF started.

If the rumors are even partially true, he's probably not going to be directing the stand-alone film.

Directors have been known to change.

If only...

Keeping it real: that's what I think too. Fox has been pretty cheap with its PR on this project too, so I don't think it's going to be wasted on small scale gossip.

I'm not at all surprised Fox wouldn't respond officially to a rumor, but where the hell is Josh Trank?

There haven't been any photos or quotes and now the only thing anybody is saying about him (keep in mind none of the cast has had any kind words for him in the interviews they've done) is that he was wasted through most of the shoot, showed up late or not at all and trashed a house.

What young, unproven director would allow himself to be defined like that without raising his hand and saying: "Wait a minute, I'm not as grossly irresponsible as people are saying I am."?

I keep forgetting this movie exists. And it comes out in 8 months.

I'm actually anticipating it. I'll be there opening day, laughing and spitting venom on it the whole time.
And I know what you're thinking and no, I will not pay for a ticket. I have other ways of getting in, I see most movies for free if I'm not with my girlfriend.

Very good point, you're completely correct.

But still, you'd think in an age where people have shown they won't pay for just any superhero movie that they'd at least try to get a team of individuals together to give a worthwhile F4 film.

I can guarantee that if this movie is actually released it's going to make little to no money. I doubt it'll even go number one. Everything about it sounds so awful that I can't imagine hordes of people showing up to theaters all over to pay for it.

If it's released it'll probably be in theaters less than a month. I'm calling it now.

And now Marvel Studio's Dr. Strange movie has a mock-up out, from the director himself, of the lead actor as the titular character.

And it comes out in 2016.

Oh, I see. A new comment:

Also heard he was fired after wrapping and other are working on it post production.

While I hate this movie and want it to be true, it still sounds like hearsay.
