Nah don't worry, in real life there aren't any wicked evil people.

Operating in hiding, no big scheme, no followers. That comparison is an insult to The Joker. Here in Norway we had to teenagers raping and killing two 8 year old girls. But that is not the same as The Joker. Far from it.
A Bin Laden without the fanaticism could be a comparison, but then again he had his goal. And he was a control-freak with a fantasy-book.
Analyze The Joker. He is something else.
me.
Q, err, I mean Fox - The character is so fictionall and what he comes up with is in the James Bond universe.
Batman and Joker are out there, but Superman is way out there!
If you was in the military like let's say military intelligence with, let's also say a Top Secret Clearance.
You'd be surprised what the military has~in the 21st century that would blow your mind.....:gray:
And I'm not even talking about that stuff at Area 51 neither...:gray:
Also Dotten, if Nolan ever did Superman (which I doubt he would), it would be nothing like Donner's vision. That I can assure you. Clark's identity would have to consist of more than mere glasses. You would likely see some kind of special intelligence group with the intent of turning Supes into a lab experiment. Supes wouldn't be wearing red panties. There would be a much greater effort involved in making Krypton look less human and more bizarre/unexplainable/alien. Again, Supes is way out there, so Nolan wouldn't touch the character, but if he did...
Like Dea says, Nolan tries to bring "realistic elements into Batman's world." I don't think Donner ever did that with Superman.
I have clearence up to Nato Top Secret. Only lack the Cosmic Top Secret ... I worked at Norwegian Navy for five years, as a communications expert with the responsebility of controlling all the classified information onboard one of the frigates.
To bad it did not contain anything about Area 51. But yes, you would be surprised to what is held under wraps by NATO. ^^
Yes, because there's no such thing as evil remorseless psychopaths in the real world
He tries more to sell the illusion of realism (as stated in my first post). Many buy in to the illusion, but when the illusion is pointed out it's denial mode for some. It's like the illusion is some magic ring one just needs to hold on to, or else the sky will fall down on us revealing the real world.
"Me wants it, me needs it".

I can't decide to laugh because you're joking or laugh because your serious.

Perhaps, Nolan is a magician then.

Probably because of my crappy english. I blame the norwegian school system ...Interesting thread, although I didn't get your point initially.
On a side note, I think Riddler could be portrayed as an interesting villain loosely based on the Zodiac Killer and his cryptic writings.
No Mr. Freeze or Killer Croc though Dotten!
I thought Nolan already said that its not realistic, he is just bringing realistic elements into Batman's world.
I'm actually serious. Although I quit the navy last year. My real name is under my nick, I'm not one who goes around hiding behind a nick when on forums.
I'm currently working at a norwegian forum called Diskusjon.no, wich in size is far larger then The Hype. As community manager. I get a paycheck moderating and guiding a team of around 40 moderators. But since I dare call this movie unrealistic I'm actually a troll. Kinda funny and ironic. You can google me, but it's all in norwegian.
But enought about me. If anyone is in Bergen, Norway then look me up. I'll buy you a beer and then we can discuss the unrealism that is The Dark Knight.

EVERYONE should keep that in mind. It's not meant to be totally realistic, just more realistic when compared to the last films.
 t:
t:I notice a lot of people praise the realism in this movie. Which baffles me. In Batman Begins Nolan had the illusion of realism (which was cleverly disguised unrealism).
In this movie he totally took me by surprise cause there was no realism what-so-ever and he did not even try to give us that illusion.
Bruce Wayne morals and ethics - unrealistic. No man alive can relate to that, thats what makes him a superhero. Cause he takes "overhuman" choices.
Batman in action - totally unrealistic. Like watching Spider-Man. What he does is so far out there, it really surprised me.
Q, err, I mean Fox - The character is so fictionall and what he comes up with is in the James Bond universe.
Two-Face - No one can live like that. So over the top if one wants realism (or the illusion of it)
Joker - Wicked evil, most unrealistic of all.
The story - It's like complicatet domino. A bit to well directed. It's totally madness (mostly due to the character of joker).
Now, people might think I'm bashing the movie. I am not. I loved it, best thriller I've seen and alongside Superman the beste superheromovie ever made. I loved how Nolan went away from the illusion of realism and gave us a kick-ass movie.
But I'm a bit startled that so many of the "realism"-lovers like this movie. And many of them seem to live in denial and claim that this is so realistic. Come on!
So, did the Nolan take for this one (he also dropped the jumping back and forth in timeline) with less realism suit you? I hope this opens the eyes for many, movies need magic and not realism. This is a different universe then our and Nolan used that to give us a unrealistic film that totally kicked ass. But am I alone with this take on the movie? I feel so.
Probably because of my crappy english. I blame the norwegian school system

Do you like comics?
If you don´t, i can understand, but, if you do....
This is a movie about a grown man that dresses up in a bat custome, there is nothing realistic after that.
The thing is to take that universe and make it serious and adult, having the characters deal with things and emotions in a realistic fashion in that same universe.
In that department, the movie is perfect.....
Perhaps, Nolan is a magician then.
