The Dark Knight The Man Who Laughs: The Joker Thread 2.0

Oh heck yes. I love it. My whole family goes to see it, dressed up. And Magenta is...obviously...my favorite.

Sidenote, that's one of my favorite production shots from TDK because he does look SO much like Cesar Romero's Joker behind that glass. It's a nice little synthesis.

hows italia?

I'm just posting this here but I wanted to let you all know a tid bit of news. My Highschool drama dept. has asked me to be the Joker for there homecomming dance. It is a superhero theme and they have a cage just like the one in TDK so I will be simply acting the part for an hour or so. It looks to be alot of fun. They picked me and i graduated in 07' because i was in all the plays as a main role i assume and cause i was kinda just silly in highschool. Any lines you guys want me to say from the films or any tv series?

You need to do lines that you know they'll love, lines that'll make the crowd burst out screaming like "**** Yeah!!!"

People come up to you, ask them if they wanna know how you got the scars,

"Well hello beautiful" for the purdy ladies, and definitely "Look at me!" All eyes on you. :cwink:

Very interesting, specially in showing how similar Cesar and Jack actually were. They could be clown brothers sharing an act or something.
Heath on the other hand is in a league of his own.:woot:

Yeah, it can't at all be attributed to the fact that Heath clearly has a different facial expression and bodily manner than the others. :o

What do you mean? I think even if TDK Joker was smiling and had the same mannerisms as them he would just kill them, maybe 89 Joker would put up a fight or spray his acid flower at him!!:hehe:

I'm aware of their stark differences. It's just not really a viable comparison in this particular showcase when there's clearly an odd-man out. But I get what was trying to be depicted.

Still, there are dozens of other pics that show Heath smiling like a maniac, and looking more dangerous than those two.

Say what you will, Nicholson's emergence from the shadows of Grissom's apartment in full Joker makeup was an impressive and memorable sequence, and his menace was maintained in the early part of the film.

i agree completely. one of the best (if not the best) villain intros in any batfilm. unfortunately that level of menace was not maintained for long before it fell victim to hammy theatrics and poorly concieved dance numbers.

i think this may be why so many that take issue with jack's performance complain. it didnt live up to the early promise of its potential (at least for me).

No doubt. While I loved his performance, it's still a shame he reached his aggressive peak during his first scene. Would have loved to see that tone be played throughout the rest of the film.

There was a thread in Miscellaneous Bat-films, about whether or not people still preferred Nicholson over Ledger. It seems to have disappeared. Anyone know why? I know there were some problems in there but people seemed mostly civil about it all.
Oh, and I do like the comparison picture but I wish someone would manip Jack's Joker so he wasn't smiling all the time. It would make it so much better.

Agreed. "Jack is dead my friend. You can call me..........Joker!! And as you can see, I'm alot happier!!"

Yea that scene is brilliant, the way he's slowly inching out of the dark is very menacing. Also when he's at the plastic surgeons and he starts laughing maniacally, that scared the living crap out of me when I was a kid.

I was never doubting Nicholsons menace, I just trying to say that Heaths Joker would F him up if they had a fight.

I'm not so sure Crook. I agree that he did become a little bit too goofy later on in the film, but he was still threatening. My favourite part of that whole movie is when he's talking to the roasted Antoine.
"Your pals are good people, maybe we should give em a couple of days to think it over. No? Grease em now? Well ok. Yor are a vicious bastard, IM GLAD YOUR DEAD!! HAHAHAHAHA

The reason Jack's Joker lost some of his menace, and the reason Heath's didn't, was because Jack's was overused, but Heath spent just enough time on screen. The result was that we had got to know Jack's Joker rather well by the climax in the cathedral, while Heath's remained an enigma throughout, with each of his plots and plans being more threatening than the last. Heather's raw strategic intelligence was also emphasised to an almost supernatural degree, with his appearance in the right place every time and events conspiring his way without much explanation. This made him seem in some way inexorable and relentless. Jacker was lethal on a large scale, but his motivations (largely the aquisition of fame and sex) were more understandable.

Well said.
Even though Jack's joker was probably closer to the original comic book incarnation, not necessarly in appearance but in the fact that they were more like glorified gangsters, I really find the evolution of the character really fascinating in TDK, there is definitely a strong TKJ, and to some extent AA, influence in this anarchist, terrorist, nihilist, punk rock and like Bale said druggie Joker.
In certain scenes, it's true that the Joker looked on drugs, like when he walks out of the hospital (maybe he refilled his prescriptions ?), or with his head out of the cop car like a dog, shaking his wet hair etc...
I wonder what drugs the Joker would be taking, maybe the Scarecrow fear toxin ?:woot:.
