The Dark Knight The Man Who Laughs: The Joker Thread 2.0

Yea I could see the electric hand buzzer fitting into Nolan's universe. That's probably one of the only Joker gag weapons that could to be honest. Or maybe the gun that shoots out the little "bang" flag, but with another squeeze of the trigger it shoots out the flag. That could work if done right and not too over the top.

It would be nice to see the hand-buzzer, and the potentially horrific squirty-flower, too. I suppose that the "pencil trick" was the closest we saw to comedic weaponary in TDK. A razor-sharp playing card and nitrous-oxide would be nice, too.

i always liked the "posion handshake" he does in The Killin Joke. Its basically like the joybuzzer, but with a poison needle strapped to his palm instead.

I think that would be more in line with Nolan's world: the victim would slowly die and sink to the ground, rather than the over-the-top electrocution

Well, I'd like to see a less over-the-top electrocution with the buzzer. I mean, what they did in Batman '98 was just silly. The guys face glowing red and everything.
I see it more like a taser, where if this guy actually shook your hand you'd be knocked out and start spasming on the floor.

^but imagine the guy starting to twitch and sink to the ground, gurgling on his own blood, as the Joker clenches his hand...it'd be so wicked.

Remember, Nolan's Joker doesen't really focus on comedy that much.

i'd definitely like to see that . it dissappointed me that joker didn't use any joker venom in TDK , which is why i like to pretend that the whole fake grenade in the prologue and the poisoned drink in comminsioner loeb's death scene was joker venom .

Why is realism an aspect that should lie behind the hue of a coat, to any possible extent?
Because Nolan wants psychologically believable characters. Choices aren't just made for aesthetic pruposes, it all needs to tie together in the end.

Realism has nothing to do with establishing psychologically believable characters.

Anyway, I'd love to see the handbuzzer and bang gun. Though mind you I don't know if a live action Joker could pull off the latter after the awesomeness of Return of the Joker. Razor sharp playing cards would be great too. That was my main problem with Ledger's Joker, all that "kniiiives!" talk really didn't fit the character for me.

Same here. I've never seen the character as having a fondness for knives, so that was just waaaay off to me.

Oh, wait.... :o

Well, there are two instances from 70 years of the principle comics, plus one from a cartoon and one from a comic spinoff from a cartoon. You could equally have posted a still from TDK to demonstrate that The Joker uses knives.

In fact, we all know that he always has used knives. But he doesn't use only knives, and they aren't his gimmick. His comedic weaponry is just as frequently used, and his revolver appears far more often.

hes also perma -white in the comics

im pretty sure its established they changed things for the movie

It's clear that I am not arguing otherwise. The poster above, however, referenced some images of The Joker with a knife in media outside the movies, in order to highlight the precedent for that particular character-trait. I was discussing this on its own terms.

So you agree that TDK changed things, including a greater emphasis on a knife-wielding Joker, so you agree fully with "Two Face = Badass" and myself.

That is all.

oh i see, youre not trying to rebuttal the argument, youre just saying the examples used in his generalization werent representative of the material

Or that they were representative of only a part of the material, but yes.

Yeah, I did wish he had a couple of his comedic lethal toys in the movie. The acid squirting flower would have been good, for example.

i disagree. too clownish. the extent of his clowniness was the make up and the masks, which were used as a symbol to represent his ideals and the actions he makes. you see a clown, you're going to die. squirting flowers, joybuzzers and joke in the boxes don't really fit this version of the character

Disagree.

If he can dress up in a nurse's outfit with a woman's wig, then he can have an acid squirting flower on his coat.
