The Dark Knight The Man Who Laughs: The Joker Thread 2.0

They didn't jsut use the laugh superficially to show "yea this guys a nutcase can't you tell" in TDK...they used it intelligently to disturb

Laughing as a building blows up or something is expected of a bad guy...but laughing as you get the **** beat out of you? or as you're dangling upside down surrounded by cops? that's pretty freaky and makes the laugh more important
You're going to have to explain this intelligence nonsense. Especially when the examples you've cited are completely typical of the traditional Joker that the masses know.

I know this to be true.

Oh, wait.... :o
I can't believe i missed this, especially when it was directed to me

I thought it was funny, good job. But my point stands, as someone previous said Joker tends to use knives far more often in the comics as a last resort, after his comedic weaponry is out or at too close a range. I have no problem that Joker used a knife in the film, just that when he seems to dedicate quite a few sentences to them and seems to have a bizarre fascination with them I don't like it. I would have been far happier to see the BANG gun or joy buzzer variation at some point. I feel theatricality is a massive part of Joker's mind and that while he was certainlyt theatrical in many respects, I don't feel the real Joker ("real" being debatable, more the Joker attributes consistent in comics) would get a big kick out of common knives of all things, as opposed to his own comedic weaponry which adds another opposition to Batman.

So what do you guys think the Joker would do if he broke out of Arkham? He's burned most of his money and killed Maroni, thus losing all his important inside contacts. Would his schemes have to become smaller in scale?

no one knows that maroni is dead. speculation

Seeing him build himself up from nothing could be very interesting, as with the recent graphic novel, "Joker".

I suppose he ought not skin anyone alive, though!

Well, if he turned out to be alive, it would make Dent look pretty foolish IMO. The guy flips for Maroni, and comes up with a dead end. Intent on killing the man, he flips for his driver and causes a collision. If Dent left the scene without checking that the man of his temporary fixation was definitely dead, then I'd say he really dropped the ball (or should that be the coin? Hardy har har...). Logically, Maroni should be dead.

That's pretty cool. Obviously fake, contrary to the description, but cool nonetheless. I'll never understand why people try to pass things off as real. You get more recognition in saying that it's something you created yourself, instead of trying to stir up such minute controversy amongst those who watch it online. Especially something like this, since it's pretty well done and creative. Instead of trying to pass it off as real, take credit for the good work you've produced.

i'm sure he left behind a network of dedicated followers. Remember, this version of the Joker plans out everything to a tee (despite whatever he tells Harvey, he is actually the ultimate schemer). So i'll bet he planned his big comeback for after he inevitably escapes as well.

By the time he escaped, Gotham's crime syndicates would probably be in the hands of "freaks" inspired by him anyway. How he would react to them would be interesting. He'll always be in a league of his own though

Yes, but he'll have lost his moles inside the press, DA office, police department, and everywhere else Maroni had people. That'll certainly hamper his ability to carry out grand schemes.

That's one thing that occurred to me after watching the movie - Maroni's people actually did most of the dirty work, maybe aside from planting explosives. The mob technically COULD have done what Joker did, but they didn't dare until Joker came along. But I suppose they wanted to show that even the mob had rules and was its own institution within Gotham.

Didn't Nolan say TDK was 'the rise of The Joker'?

I take it that Joker got all of his henchmen when he killed the Chenchen. "Tell your men they work for me now." His followers, the sadists, and mentally ill of gotham who mistakenly look up to Joker "His name is Schiff, Thomas. A former patient at Arkham. The kind of mind the Joker attracts" are probably the ones who will bust Joker out, and probably end up getting killed by him shortly after.

Also, why does everyone think Joker is going to Arkham? Remember? The Narrows was destroyed in Batman Begins. Arkham's in the Narrows. Arkham's gone, people.

The Narrows wasn't destroyed a lil fyi

Gordon: "The Narrows is lost."

I think by "lost" he means "totally beyond repair" maybe destroyed wasn't the right word, but the Narrows is pretty much a no-go zone, I think. Nobody's going to run a mental health facility in an area covered in a hallucinating smog while psychotic crazies walk around the streets, ready to kill (or eat, as Begins showed) anybody they see.

But between the end of BB and the beginning of TDK there was like... a year or so. Nobody is gonna leave a chunk of the city in total chaos for such period of time. They probably fixed it, or are at least in process of fixing things there by the time when TDK ended.

I'm guessing they revisit it for the third one. They kinda have to, or at least should. I frakkin love The Narrows.

The Clown Prince of Crime return to animation and make his long awaited public debut in the 2-parter season finale of Batman : The Brave & The Bold ~ Game Over for Owlman!

When parallel worlds collide, Batman swaps places with Owlman--his criminal counterpart in an alternate universe--to stop the Crime Syndicate from taking over their world. Crime fighters in one world must battle their evil counterparts in a crime spree melee. Meanwhile back on Earth, Owlman has been perpetrating crimes disguised as Batman and assembled all the villains to join him. When Batman returns, he finds himself on the wrong side of the law and hunted by Green Lantern, Aquaman, Blue Beetle, Red Tornado and Plastic Man. It’s a strange twist of fate that leaves Batman with only one option - to team up with The Joker (Jeff Bennett) and take Owlman and the Crime Syndicate down!

Here's a first look of The Joker

Saw part 1 last night. I really liked the alternate joker, showing how he had lost everything, but still wanted to do good and didnt give into madness, like the real Joker obviously did.

I'll admit it, im not much of a comic-reader. my knowledge of superheroes mainly comes from TV shows and movies, but I'd love to see a Batman spinoff comic book where Joker is the hero and Batman is the villain. It'd be an interesting twist.

God, what have they done to The Joker? The Animated Series was adored by the fans, why not go down that route again? Or something new and more...er, good.
