The Me Too Movement: The Sexual Harassment and Assault Thread

I think the reality is we as humans are incredible flawed and both sexes are capable of crossing the line, in fact it wouldn't surprise me if the statistics about women assaulting men is nowhere near accurate. What's the solution to any of this? I don't know. I personally think better education is required first and foremost, more importantly, educating kids not just as a group but along gender lines as well, getting a female teach to talk to boys about how women think and act and vice verse for the girls. But even then I don't think that will ever solve everything. When it comes to sexual behaviour people's primal desires can override any sense of morality, reason and logic, and I don't think there's a way to eliminate that.

That message in support of James Gunn was against the whole mob mentality thing, but what is this movement if not just supporting witch hunts and the mob mentality?

There isn't a cure all or catch all solution to something like this. I think you should take the accusations seriously, but also not necessarily rush to judgement or crucify someone either and basically make them a pariah just because of allegations. What if the allegations are false?

There is no cure to stop bullying or a way to stop bullying forever either.

Asia Argento said Tuesday that she never had “any sexual relationship” with a man who accused her of molesting him when he was a minor, and that her former boyfriend, the late Anthony Bourdain, urged her to agree to a financial settlement to end the accuser’s “long-standing persecution” of her.

This feels like an 'I did not. Have. Sexual. Relations. With that woman.' moment. And putting the blame on Bourdain, who can't even make a statement anymore?

Be gentle and wait for all the facts to come out and all that.

That is beyond disgusting and I hope the volunteer in question here sues him for all he is worth.

The story in your link has her saying Bourdain "urged" her to pay him off.....in this story it has her saying that Bourdain actually did the paying off https://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/ne...n-paid-off-accuser/ar-BBMe65H?ocid=spartanntp

Wonder which one is true?

That still wouldn't be misogynistic, since it doesn't disparage women. I think the term you're thinking of is "misandrist".

Indeed you’re right - I was reading on autopilot and thought that’s what was said in the original post.

Here's an interesting detail. TMZ obtained text messages between Bourdain and Argento about the subject and in them Argento contradicts her claim that there was no sexual relationship with the accuser.
Bourdain and Argento -- who were dating for over a year before Bourdain's death -- texted each other about Jimmy Bennett, referring to him as a "donkey" and Bourdain writing that paying him is "no admission of anything, no attempt to buy a cover up, simply an offer to help an obviously tortured soul whose desperate and trying to jack you for money."
Bourdain goes on to say, "Or you just tell him to f*** himself. Either way, I am with you."
In discussing the settlement -- which ended up to reportedly be $380,000 -- Argento confesses, "I am also broke." Bourdain makes it's clear he's handling the negotiations, instructing Argento to take a call from a rep who is involved in the matter.
Asia, at one point, seems to contradict her claim she never had a sexual relationship with Bennett, saying, "It wasn't raped (sic) but I was frozen. He was on top of me. After he told me I had been his sexual fantasy since he was 12."

This story is getting stranger and stranger with each new piece of information.

Digging into Bourdain's life I'm starting to see where all his demons came from.

There are pics of Argento with the kid when he was 8 years old. It kinda seems like a grooming type situation to me. Folks have also pointed out that she herself posted pics of them in a hotel room, so there is evidence to backup his claim.

And strange as the case is, Argento didn't exactly do herself bringing Bourdain into the conversation when he's committed suicide.

Probably for the best. He ain't trying to **** up his career.

Why are comedians doing gigs at colleges anyway?

Must be an American thing coz I've never heard of it.

Autopilot? Hell, I *thought* that was some convoluted logic you were using when you replied to my comment.

Comedians doing the college tour scene is not new. However, with today's social climate, I would assume it'd be hard for a lot of "edgier" comics to do stuff that might work in clubs in cities.

Watching that video it really makes me worried for those people in the audience when they get out into the real world. If they can't handle a racy joke or two they're not going to get far. What's more worrying is that environment might be infantilising people, especially the young women. These people need to be told the truth about what life is like, that things aren't always black and white and most importantly, don't rely on others to solve your problems. Judging from those people being interviewed, especially the teachers, they are being sheltered from genuine truth, and this has to be fixed otherwise they are going to have sever mental disorders by not being able to cope with the realities of the world.

That's bull.
