Hmmm, I'm really unsure about the Bane Vest at this point. I know what I'm going to do for every other piece besides it. I was thinking of a costumebase one, but in all honesty it looks pretty costumey. I want to be impressive this halloween. But then again, I don't want to spend a crapton of money for one of these. Is there anything of similar price to the costume base one that doesn't look like it?

venomshock, i dont know of any complete ones that are cheap and do not suck, but what about the parts that jokerthug is trying to sell on page 31? it would get you started and it would look better than any of the cheap ones.

on the other hand, if you're like me, shirtless bane is not an option (bummer, right?) you could crank out a serviceable vest for about $70. wont be perfect, but it will be recognizable. forgive any typos as my meds have made me quite loopy.
supplies:
a tan molle vest ($25-$40)
combat suspenders ($8)
red string/cord/whatever
dark brown leather (get an old purse from goodwill, or skin a couch sombody is throwing out)
superglue, thread and needle, or spray adhesive to hold the leather in place for the armoring
something to act as padding inside the armor panels (foam works)
some paint to distress it (brown, bronze, gray)
webbing belts. i found a bunch cheap($1 each) at the thrift store, but you can buy webbing by the yard at jo-ann fabrics. they have 1 1/2 inch wide in a tan color that, once you do some dry-brushing with brown, is perfect for the belts
you can attach all this stuff by stitching it in place with some heavy thread, i'd probably poke holes in advance with an awl and use a blunt needle to go through.
if you use nylon webbing you can just melt the ends and they won't fray at all

or buy a vest completed.
or buy jokerthug's supplies and a vest base to build on.

edit: just notice i stopped listing prices and started rambling. sorry. also recommend duct tape as a supply- and they have it in all colors now

Unfortunately I live in Southern Canada. Still rather warm, but come Halloween I suspect it'll be awful chilly. I hope I'm big enough by then to pull the whole shibang off. I really gotta focus on weight gain, since I'm not burning fat so much as trying to gain it.

I have a jacket that I actually just sort of own, which looks a lot like the belfast trialmaster if you ask me. I'm thinking that could work at some points... but damnits, I wanna do the vest. I don't really think I have the patience to put something together, nor the skill. I might just have to cheap out and go for something screen inaccurate.

i understand you admitting not having the skill, but the patience? c'mon man, imagine the payoff!
you'll have a sexy police officer on one arm, and a sexy nurse on the other, possibly you'll have 2 girls on each arm- perhaps a sexy nun and a sexy witch, too? while all the other dudes are glaring at you, wishing it was them behind the mask.

that foam is a bit stiff for what you need i think, my friend made some ultimate thor armor out of that stuff and it would not keep the curve he put into it. i would try a furniture type foam padding instead, to retain some flexibility.

any cheap leather?! ye gods, man.
good places to find leather for this project on the cheap:
watch the side of the road- couches show up all the time. if you're smart, you'll have a knife with you in case you get the opportunity to skin one of these real quick.
decorative pillows at goodwill
ugly purses or coats at goodwill- if you plan right you can use the zipper section for the back of the vest, too!
please dont use vinyl, it seriously bums me out. really.
if you have no luck at all, depending on where in canada you are, there may be a tandy leather near you, give em a call and ask if they have any "large upholstery scrap", if they do, ask if they know if they have any in a dark brown pull-up type leather or a dark brown distressed.

yeah, get a crafty assistant to help, or do it for you and pay them with favors or sumthin.

Yeah, I've got the page up while doing some work for school. That Iron Man costume made me laugh so hard! It was a welcome break from my quantum homework.

So the sculpt for the main part of the mask is done. I've got the first half of the mold made, but I need some wax to put on it before I can do the mother mold. I ordered it from Smooth-On today, so I'm waiting on that before I can make any more progress. Luckily Smooth-On ships quickly (at least that's been my experience so far). Maybe I'l start work on my vest in the interim.

beautiful! i know we're all lookin forward to seein it. i'm finally starting on my mask this week.. my skills are not in the mold-making department so i'm going another route which is making it a little weird.
i really like seeing the progress on everyone else's stuff though!

Leather should be completely fine, I know a few good places I can hit up for some quality stuff. Furniture foam? Okay, I'll keep that in mind.

I'm just hoping this doesn't cost TOO much. I have a couple of army surplus stores and paintball places here that could potentially lower that pricing for me (otherwise why NOT just buy a costumebase one and make it all sexy 'n sarch?).

well, probably going to be mostly leather. i am comfortable working with it and can make it look like metal, cloth, etc.
it will open at the sides using magnets, snaps, and screws. i have wire loom for the top tubes, and lego technic tubes for the muzzle, so i am good there.
i have a piece of metal for the mouth area, it's already got all those holes in it.
i am also planning on making one of the lower tubes removable so i can shove a straw in there and hydrate myself.
probably going to pass out now, i shall return on the morrow

HEEEY I'm planning on using that guys vest build as well, small world. If it makes you feel any better I just found out that there are two vests in his build today too...and I've been looking/reading through it for a few weeks now. I have quite a bit of the supplies already so there's no turning back now haha. I'll try and post some progress when I get the right stuff to start working on it. I'd like to see your progress as well. It should motivate both of us haha!

Welp I guess I should announce that I'm throwing my hat into the mask making ring as well. It's going to be my first time doing damn near every bit of the process, but oh well. I'm making my alginate head-cast on Sunday. I'll be sure to post pics If I manage not to fail miserably.

I do have to say tho, that the guy is am @$$-hole... i contacted the guy via email asking for the version 2 of the mask and pics of it and he treated me like a piece of crap. what a jerk.

Once the mask is padded it will snug up on your head. I'll make a video tonight with the entire list of modifications so you can follow suit if you want to.

Once the mask is padded it will snug up on your head. I'll make a video tonight with the entire list of modifications so you can follow suit if you want to.
