Anthony Joshua and Klitschko have agreed to fight.

Oh right, thanks for that. Really hope it happens.

Oh and just noticed your join date, welcome to the Hype!

Cheers bro, thought I'd make the move from lurker to poster!! :woot:

Hope the fight happens too, the heavyweight division is stale right now.

Was wondering if you had seen this? Apparently it's a Klitschko injury now? All very bizarre.

Yeah. As long as it happens by some time next year it should be ok. Klitschko is getting on a bit though, can't wait around forever.

Can't wait for the weekend Super fight finally to happen. Kovalev v Ward.

Man, I'm excited! I just want a good fight and I believe we'll get it, although I caution people not that familiar with Ward that this could be ugly.

I think it has to be for him to win, he has to smother and neutralize the power. I enjoy that type of thing, so I'll be on the edge of my seat, but I'm sure if he wins that's all anyone will want to talk about...

Call me crazy but I think Ward is going to win this one a lot more easily than people think. Hope I'm wrong but we will see.

I think Ward wins by UD too. But if Kovalev catches him it's "Goodnight Oakland".

No doubt, Kovalev has a puncher's chance and he's the real deal but I just think Ward has this in the bag.

Well I'm assuming Kovalev learned something from that Chilemba fight, if he shows up with that type of strategy, yeah, this will be a wipe out.

I don't think he does that. Chilemba isn't anywhere near Ward's caliber, but simply moving laterally so that Kovalev couldn't set his feet neutralized a lot of his offense. His team has to know that this is one of the essential things Andre is going to do, I can't imagine he comes in there like that again in the biggest fight of his life...

Ward has looked pretty average since his return, but it is a close fight. My money is on Crusher. I think the way Ward has been getting caught since his return means Kovalev can catch him enough to slow Ward and potentially finish him.

I never realized Ward had been knocked down. I was watching him get dropped by Darnell Boone this morning.

I think one of the biggest factors in this fight will be Kovalev's jab. If he can get his jab working the way he wants, he significantly increases his chances of winning. Chilemba took away Sergey's jab, and it severely limited his offense; If Ward does that, I think Kova would be reduced to having only a puncher's chance.

Distance is going to be critical for both fighters. We know Ward is great with controlling range, but the more Kovalev is able to keep Andre on the end of his punches the more dangerous it becomes.

Honestly, I don't think I would be surprised by any outcome of this fight. This is a great match-up that has been horribly promoted. This fight could determine the P4P best fighter in the world, and I've seen virtually nothing about it in the mainstream media.

I was listening to the HBO podcast, and they brought up the jab. One thing they pointed out is if one of the two really get their jab going, they would probably be winning. Though I guess if Ward is fighting successfully on the inside, that is less of a factor, still it is a really good point.

And yep, I don't think any result would surprise me one bit.

True, although neither guy is all that concerned with selling themselves either. This is the exact reason I hate seeing fans get upset over fighters that aren't humble. You have two guys who aren't flashy, who just go about the business of boxing and it doesn't move the needle. Being a character makes the promotion easy...

The difference to me is that Sergey needs his jab to work more than Ward does his. I think Ward could still scratch out a decision if his jab isn't working well, but if Sergey's doesn't work well, he just has to hope he can clip Ward with a big shot.

Good point, but that shouldn't bail out those whose job title is "promoter." You shouldn't have to rely on your fighter being a character to get him into the public eye. Ward has been in discussion for best fighter in the world for years, and has had many high profile fights. Kovalev is, imo, the hardest P4P puncher in boxing, with a mean streak that the casuals should eat up.
That being said, Ward and Kovalev do need to put some effort into getting themselves out there. No one is innocent in this promotional failure.

Good fight, but I don't agree with the scoring. They judged wrestling over effective punching. Sergei won the first four, and 3 of the last 6. Plus the knockdown.
